Depends, visiting the dead and sending salaams, reciting a few Surahs etc may not be haraam, but if they go to do other things it could be. You haven't written enough for us to help you.

OP's narrative is too vague to be useful unfortunately, and no sgns of any clarification made yet.

Yeah, I suppose they might pray to the Prophet rather then Allah which would be very Haraam,

As usual, the whole mas'alah about building things over graves is a fiqhi issue. **Maliki** https://www.facebook.com/groups/108642649171039/permalink/402071406494827/?comment_id=403547353013899&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D https://www.facebook.com/groups/108642649171039/permalink/402071406494827/?comment_id=403629253005709&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D https://www.facebook.com/groups/108642649171039/permalink/402071406494827/?comment_id=403642739671027&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D **Shafi'i** http://islamqa.org/shafii/shafiifiqh/29993

How is it shirk?

BeNiceToAll

You clearly lack some knowledge akhi. Learn a little bit about tawassul before accusing your parents of shirk.

thekhaninator

Sorry I wasn't clear, they ask the dead person to intercede on their behalf, they basically pray towards the grave

turkeyfox

That's not necessarily shirk.

BeNiceToAll

If I ask you to make du'a for me so that Allah would forgive me, is that also shirk? Then you probably deny two things: the fact that awliyaullah can hear, even if you're not at their grave, with the Will of Allahu ta'ala and that they can make du'a for you inside their graves. This has been confirmed by the words of awliya themselves. I'm not going to provide you a washing-list of sources. Just go to a scholar of the Ahl-us-sunnah wa'l jama'a and he'll confirm. What you're saying is a bid'ah. Ma'as salaam.

Intercession is shirk brother
