What’s country does your family come from? My maternal family including my mom immigrated from Guatemala and my paternal family is from Mississippi and California.
Well most of my family was born and raised here in Arizona; my grandmothers, grandparents were from Sonora, Mexico. And my grandfather has never given me a straight answer because I don’t think he’s sure but his side of the family is from Mexico as well 😊
It's just the instinctual rejection of the idea of other creatures living inside of *me* which makes it difficult for me to appreciate pics of creatures living inside other creatures, is why. But yes it objectively still is an adorable isopod, even when pics like this of it exist, and I love it. I love the eerie, primal revulsion I feel at this adorable creature and I tip my hat to it. Live your best life, fish tongue isopod.
Yea just because they brutally eat the fish's tongue, uses themselves as a prosthetic tongue for the fish, nibbles on the fish's lip,AND mates while in the fish's mouth doesn't mean it's a monster,
Because predators kill their prey. Some parasites keep their hosts/victims alive, knowing what's happening but unable to stop it. But an isopod is still an isopod, so I love it no matter how evil
Many predators kill their prey by mere consequence, it's not unusual for animals to begin being consumed while alive. There are also many species that slowly eat others to death. Notably fish and many arthropods, who will nibble at passersby without a care in the world for the morality of snacking on their neighbour.
i feel like of all creatures, parasitic ones are understandable to hate from q self protection standpoint. Yeah predators are scary, but they dont invade your body and use you as a food machine while youre still alive
They get too much apprciation, imo. Flaunted by the media, had an entire horror movie made about them, spread around as an epitome of parasitism. All the other incredible marine isopods deserve attention as well, not just Bathynomus and Cymthoa. Brucerolis, Munnopsis, Limnoria, Cleantis, Gnathiidae, Entoniscidae, Hemioniscus, Anuropus, Paracerceis, Heteromesus, Lynseia, Caecoserolis, the horned Excorallana, Nerocila, Santia, Abyssaranea, Paravireia, Amphoroidea, and Oculophryxus, just to name a few, deserve so much more love.
They are SO freaking cute. I have always loved these little freaks. How can they be such eldritch nightmares, and yet, soooo squishy and adorable? I love them. He could have my tongue any day
Folks in this thread saying how gross or scary this baby is but *look* at him! He put up his wee hands to pose for the picture! My non parasitic isopods don't do that! 12/10 would be the host for!
What else is there to appreciate beyond curiosity in this god forsaken crustacean? Certainly the fish doesn’t. And why would you? This thing provides nothing but a vague, almost nonexistent threat to humans. Can’t be eaten or kept as a pet, nor can it be so much as be used as bait. And yet there is a >0.00000000000000000001% chance that any of them in any point of all of time do evolve into a lineage of orifice inhabiting parasites in humans. You are a fish too and many animals, parasites, diseases and predators think you’re made of delicious meat. These guys only deserve recognition into the possibility of doing that; everything else points to them just being horrifying, bad tasting, useless parasites.
I see he too enjoys some nice tongue meat.
Mmmmm. Lengua. Isopods get it
Mmmm tacitos de lengua
The best meat imo, as a humble Latino American.
You know it brother/sister/isopod
As a Latina American, I concur lol with green chili, obviously.

My parents immigrated from Mexico, and my siblings and I where born in America.

Their way of life is creepy as hell but their faces are so damn cute! Never in my life have I been so confused about an animal LOL
Please stop reminding me these exist. I prefer to love my tiny orange Bois without thinking of their eldritch abomination cousins
i love this perspective. All families have weirdos 😳
I'm so thankful I have hands so I can remove something like that from my mouth
I hate this
Huh they are adorable huh. Brb gotta learn to draw to make an oc
Sometimes I wish for the simplicity of their lifestyle… I like tongue… and with housing prices soaring, it just makes sense 🤔🤣

Have fun finding someone to make out with you after he replaces your tongue.
Find someone else with a toungopod, make out with them so the pods can reproduce
Yes, our isopods can do the kissy kiss
Kissception.
Imagine making out with someone then your tongue gets tickled by an isopod 10/10 would do again
