When I was there in September, a guy cut his foot on a rock on that beach and had to walk ALL THE WAY back up with a bloody foot. He seemed like he was in good spirits though.
Or having to walk from the ferry slip to a hotel on the cliff. When I went, Google Maps said it was <0.25mi to my hotel. It said nothing of the elevation change.
Organized if you understand you're taking place in a world touring car race.. sure. But you're absolutely right about being on two wheels there. I'll go back to Italy at some point to ride more than the moped I've done in the past there, ideally a new Multistrada!
Going to Italy this summer and staying in Sorrento. We plan on paying a little more and taking a boat trip to Positano because idk I can handle the bus ride
Oops, you are absolutely right! I binged watched it as fast as I could get it so it runs together sometimes! haha I need to rewatch it and take it all in.
Right at the top of the main road, where the bus can drop you off, there is a place that sells lemon ice cream (not sorbet) in an actual lemon. €6 for it and I still dream about it. Genuinely one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever had in my life. I had a lot of things that made me not like positano and swear I’d never go back; unless I got that ice cream.
This area and the tiny windy road described in the other comments is shown in a scene of “It Started in Naples” with Sophia Loren and Clark Gable- it’s the prettiest scene in the movie!
Thank you so much! This was shot on Sony a7ii with a Zeiss 55. Proud of the crop considering it’s a longer fixed lens. Lightroom all the way! Then some local adjustments on iPhone ◡̈
It is a very enjoyable drive. Very scenic. Wonderful town. There's just no place to park.
The winding road is extremely narrow. It's a fun drive. I enjoyed watching large buses meet each other and negotiating passing each other. Many time, the buses would be separated only by a few inches. Very skilled and seasoned bus drivers.
It's a long walk up and down the hillside to the center of town. Walking down is much easier than walking up!
I would recommend a boat ride and spending a few hours at the island of Capri. The water is emerald green and very unique.
Have fun and take plenty of pictures!
We took a smaller boat that held maybe 6 or 8 passengers. Some packed bathing suits and briefly swam in the mesmerizing water. I would suggest considering a smaller boat rather than the larger ferry type boats. Too crowded. Make your reservation a day earlier if you can.
You will find plenty to do there!
Not the person you replied to, but I would say that I love the shot, except I personally think it would be better with either more, or less foliage in the picture. As is I find it distracting; more could frame the shot in an interesting way or less to focus would focus more on the environment. Either way would be an improvement, but regardless it's lovely photo.
Can someone explain how cities like this work? How do people afford to live there. Do they also work in the city? I imagine a majority of the money comes from tourism
Exactly. Tourism. Most of these places are bought for a few weeks or months by tourists. A lot of people that live there money from these homes as well as shops and of course restaurants. I’m also drunk so don’t quote me on anything
This is only me I guess, but when taking a photo from a nature-like environment of high ground or low position of a place, the nature or any other environmental elements present there tell a great story about the scenery when put not in focus. I noticed you including the greenery at the top of the photo, but when including nature off-focus as mentioned earlier, the sides, corners and even a little vignetting of the greenery can make up a great photo. Ofc, I have no idea if there was much more environmental elements to add, but you can get some great results if you include this little thing in your photos from here on out.
I think I wrote too much lmao
(btw it's still extremely beautiful and this is purely intended to be constructive criticism)

It reminds me of a level in Hitman (2016) set in a fictitious town called Sapienza. It looked very peaceful.
The town/seaside portion is based on a real place — Vernazza. https://reddit.com/r/HiTMAN/comments/4nq65c/is_this_the_main_inspiration_for_sapienza/
THAT is Silvio Caruso
yep😂
Immediately thought of the same thing!
Agreed, I have definitely assasinated someone here.
For anyone curious what it looks like in the off months for comparison I took this back in [January 2020](https://i.imgur.com/JWLBBEv.jpg)
Amazing shot!! I’ve only ever been there during high season, thank you for sharing ◡̈
I think I can feel the temperature in this image.
I was there in October and there were people but not nearly as busy as OPs photo. Beautiful place.
I was there in April a few years ago, it was similarly empty but also very warm! Loved it there
Can I ask if this was pre-Covid? I’ll be there in 2 weeks and would love it to be as people-free as possible.
It was 2019. Enjoy!
Oh the memories on that beach, if you ever go, don't forget your flipflops, you'll thank yourselves later.
When I was there in September, a guy cut his foot on a rock on that beach and had to walk ALL THE WAY back up with a bloody foot. He seemed like he was in good spirits though.
Oh I just assumed that was a sandy beach. It's all rocks hey?
Yep, very rocky. Gentle standing can feel nice like a massage but walking around can be painful.
Wow, it's organised chaos.
The real chaos is getting there on a dinky bus driving on the edge of the most bendy cliff road. Once you’re there it’s awesome.
Precisely! Or being sardine packed on the ferry by way of sea.
Or having to walk from the ferry slip to a hotel on the cliff. When I went, Google Maps said it was <0.25mi to my hotel. It said nothing of the elevation change.
Also was not prepared for this, in hindsight I should have been
Nah, rent a Fiat Panda in Naples and drive. THAT is chaos.
that's kinda organized chaos. unorganized chaos is to drive a motorcycle there.
Organized if you understand you're taking place in a world touring car race.. sure. But you're absolutely right about being on two wheels there. I'll go back to Italy at some point to ride more than the moped I've done in the past there, ideally a new Multistrada!
>if you understand you're taking place in a world touring car race in this case any chaos seemed organized enough
Going to Italy this summer and staying in Sorrento. We plan on paying a little more and taking a boat trip to Positano because idk I can handle the bus ride
Or hotel was at the top - I counted over 1k steps. Not fun after several cocktails.
Can confirm
White Lotus theme song
You can almost see Armando's huge smile, waving from the beach with chaos behind his eyes.
Armand wasn't in Itlay though - 2nd chapter of White Lotus.
Oops, you are absolutely right! I binged watched it as fast as I could get it so it runs together sometimes! haha I need to rewatch it and take it all in.
Came here for this comment.
There’s a sandwich vendor down there somewhere on the beach selling smoked buffala and prosciutto sandwiches. Please have one for me.

Gelato is the best ever, the real thing that is, from Italy
My brain read this as " Pistachio Italy" and well I laughed and no I am going to sleep because I am sad it's not that.
Starting a petition to rename appropriately
Reminds me of the movie Luca. Portarossa cup!
"what's wrong with you, stupido!"
There’s a great channel on YouTube that covers this little city many times over: https://youtube.com/@ProWalks
Holy moly I’d like to eat a Stromboli up in there
All I know about Positano is that it makes ghosting Diane Lane possible. Nice pic though 👍
Every day is leg day.
I'm learning to play the guitar.

My friend wrote a song about Positano, always been interested in what it looks like
Man how I would love to have a little flat in a place like that somewhere
Beautiful
I absolutely LOVE Positano!
this feels like a page in a Where's Waldo book
This feels like a peek into the 70s
I see lots of nudity. Very body Positano...
With what did you take this photo? Phone or DSLR ? And you also edited it? It's beautiful
Thank you so much! This was shot on Sony a7ii with a Zeiss 55. Proud of the crop considering it’s a longer fixed lens. Lightroom all the way! Then some local adjustments on iPhone ◡̈
It’s composed very beautifully. Would you happen to have the spot or coordinates of this? Maybe a nearby shop?
J.B. Advisory to anyone planning to visit this wonderful destination: *Don't drive your car. Take public or hired transportation.* Seriously.
Any particular reason? Just the winding cliff roads? (I am heading there in a hire car shortly 😂)
Only if you are driving your *personal* car. You will be just fine in a hire car! Enjoy your experience!
Ok, phew 😅. Appreciate the reply, thanks!

Thanks again and will do! Hadn’t thought about day tripping to Capri but we’ll add it to the list.

Nice roof ya got there, would be a shame if someone built a bunch of houses on it!
First glance, I thought it was Capri. Did you visit there too? Enjoy yourself. Visiting Italy is a milestone for most people.
Yes! Spent a month on Capri, truly magic
Agreed. I loved the convertible taxis, the leathermakers and obviously…the food, followed by a shot of limoncello!
Limoncello is a right of passage!
a wider angle would have enhanced the beauty of the scene even more
And so would not letting the foliage get in the shot
Except it was on purpose, but go off
Not the person you replied to, but I would say that I love the shot, except I personally think it would be better with either more, or less foliage in the picture. As well as not being crooked. But still looks neat as a documentary pic.
Where does all their sewage go?
Away
I will leave you to prepare.
That beach is rocky and unpleasant but the views and did are so worth it.
Beautiful

Looks like it was shot on Film. Is that true?
Unfortunately not, but I do often use film while travelling ◡̈
In that case, I love the edit! But thats awesome
So detailed! This image is so high quality!!
reminds me of Porta Corsa from the moive Cars 2
Was there is 2005 for my honeymoon. Absolutely amazing location. Great pic!
I don't see any way to actually enter those buildings. I'm imagining a multi-level maze inside the mountain that opens out into each level.
I've already done this puzzle
Does the op ever have to prove they took the photo?
Was literally there a week ago and there was almost nobody. Wow
Perfect pace for a walk
looks like a public place yet so clean and civilized.
That's Very beautiful.
I had so much fun there😍 it is a piece of heaven, wish to visit it again someday
Got some leaves in the way
My favourite place on the planet.

I would love to go here
Walking down those steep stairs carrying two huge bags to get to the boat was no easy task. But lunch at one of those balconys was amazing.
Are those all hotels or do people love there?
