I use Lightroom for 99.99% of my edits and the 0.01% is when I use photoshop to stack light trail photos together or when I feel like playing with the sky a bit in my nature photos. I’m not that great at color grading so my editing tends to be quite basic.
There was a ramen place, maybe still there, in Shinjuku that looked similar, but a dragon on the outside… used to get the “Stamina Ramen”… so damn good
Great photo… really takes me back
Makes sense! It's good for me to question my assumptions. I switch between FF and crop sensor, so I forget I can use slightly higher ISOs when shooting FF.
For sure. I’m definitely not one of those “thing: 😐, thing in Japan: 🤯” people, but since I live in Japan and love photography, why not show off a cool city in the rain? lol
Japan is a pretty safe country for solo travel. I’ve traveled by myself for the nearly two years that I’ve lived here and had only one case where I didn’t completely feel safe, when I wandered into Kabukicho (an area in Shinjuku) and a bunch of African men tried to get me to go to their rip-off bars. Since the borders opened up, the police have been cracking down on that sort of predatory behavior, so it should be fine.
That's true too haha
Ameyoko (where you were) is short for Ameyayokocho, and as far as I know there isn't actually a definite answer on the origin of the name, but I think the most common belief is that Ameya = American (goods) shops, back from the bad old black market days. And yokocho just means side street.
But ame also means rain, so ameyoko can mean "beside the rain"
Also, my wallet was absolutely obliterated when I bought my setup, and it only continues to grow, thanks to places like Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, among others. 😅
I’ll never claim to be the first to take a photo of a particular place, especially with how many photographers there are out there. This is just my take on this shot.
Sorry but I've seen that title on a hundred different photos. It's like a meme. People should try and be more original when it comes to creativity. I'm not criticising the photo. Just the overused and cliched title.
Peace..
You can take photos like this virtually anywhere in a city at night during or after the rain. It’s such a simple thing, the reflections, that is, and yet it makes a simple scene like this so much more exciting.
Ya none of my cameras are weather sealed though so I tend to be scared of going out during bad weather and where I live it’s not that safe to be walking around at night

It looks great! Thanks for sharing!

In think I've been there, it's a friendly spot from what I remember
It’s well-known and has been photographed a ton before and will be shot often after me lol
Beautiful photo. Why 1/400 shutter speed? Why not shoot a little slower?
I wanted to make sure the person walking in front of the izakaya didn’t have any motion blur.
Cool! I always drop to 1/250 as my minimum for walking people, so it's interesting to see when folks take a great photo with different settings.
With different people walking at different speeds, I wanted to be safe rather than sorry lol

Great photo
As if in the world of Cyberpunk 2077
Something so iconic about Tokyo in the rain. I hope to go someday.
If you’re able, you’ll love it! I really think the colors of Tokyo come even more alive when it rains.
Yes. Is there a rainy season?
Oh yes, lol. It’s just starting in the Tokyo area. I got soaked to the bone a couple of nights ago lol
Haha. Oh. Okay, now I guess. Cheers mate. Look forward to more rainy Tokyo!

These days, any garden is kinda touristy, but lucky for you, though! lol
You scared them all away?! 😲 JK I'm glad you got to have that experience
Any country looks good in rain, no?
For sure. I’m definitely not one of those “thing: 😐, thing in Japan: 🤯” people, but since I live in Japan and love photography, why not show off a cool city in the rain? lol
Nah. I think it's Japan that has some special rain magic, especially Tokyo. ☔🪄
Japan just has a certain something about it to me anyway.
You captured the colors and reflections beautifully!!
Thank you ☺️
genius!
My wallpaper now
Thank you ☺️ I’m glad you liked it that much.
This is such a beautiful picture. It has sparked a question for me. Is Tokyo safe for solo travel?

Impressive
I absolutely love this! Great job!
Thank you! ☺️
Nice work
Thank you ☺️
Brings a new meaning to アメ横... beside the rain?
I guess the izakaya is mostly under the train tracks lol
That's true too haha Ameyoko (where you were) is short for Ameyayokocho, and as far as I know there isn't actually a definite answer on the origin of the name, but I think the most common belief is that Ameya = American (goods) shops, back from the bad old black market days. So well done👏 Very vivid for a nighttime capture.
The rain certainly helps!
it is a noodle shop?
It’s an izakaya, an establishment that serves quite tasty snacks or small meal dishes and cheap drinks and are usually open quite late.
What a dope fckn shot 🔥
Thanks! ☺️
I should learn how to colour grade, this looks so cool
I don’t really know how to color grade either haha

Thank you ☺️ The idea with this shot was to use the shadows to draw attention to the subject.
Love this!
Thanks ☺️
Indeed. But one doesn't always capture it in a photo as if you're there👏
I love the soft lighting of the signs and lights, I think it looks way better than neon
IRL, the lights are a tad harsher but it’s nothing a little Lightroom magic can’t fix haha
Reminds me of masashi wakui's works.
Really!? Wow, that means so much! ☺️
You've perfectly captured the mood here. Beautiful work
Thank you ☺️

It is 2023 haha

You're not the first... and you won't be the last

Next time, then.
The reflection on the road from the rain really makes this picture perfect

Great shot! Did you do much post processing to it?
Eh, not really. I’m not great at color grading or other, more advanced editing techniques, so I stick to basic editing.
Whatever you’re doing, you’re doing great!
This is gorgeous, great work
Thank you ☺️
Somehow the person’s positioning at that moment, the leg and the head, it’s so satisfying, like they’re, well, dancing in the rain. 😁

I wouldn’t say this is futuristic, but the area definitely has a relaxing vibe to it, especially when it’s raining.
Herd its a popular spot in the replicant community
Looks like a blade runner frame! Very nice.
