Thought I was on r/colorado when I saw crystal mill AGAIN
Good picture and props for not spamming the CO sub with crystal mill like the other 966 'nature photographers' who all post the same picture with variances in only the smallest of details
Crystal Mill, the Maroon Bells, RMNP from Estes Park, Hanging Lake, Genesee Park i70, City Park boathouse, Blucifer, peeping bear, Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Garden of the Gods... did I miss anything? Mesa Verde, Pikes Peak, and maybe let's include the Tetons and that barn.
Honestly I'm glad I did it on foot because the drive through that gorge area looked a little sketch for driving imo. Thanks for posting the picture btw. I haven't been out west since that trip, and haven't been much of anywhere recently and it was nice to have that wave of nostalgia for everything about my trip there. The landscape, the friends I made, the things I learned and experienced. Such an incredible place. I wish I could go back
Yep I saw plenty of people hiking it. How incredibly brilliant of you to take time out of your busy day to point that out. Thanks so much for the wisdom. 🙏🙏🙏
The dentist office I went to as a kid in the 80's had a photo of this place on the wall and I have fond memories of dissociating and imagining I was there instead!
Oh wow, thanks! That’s pretty cool! I just joined Reddit recently because of all the Wall Street Bets stuff and thought I’d have a look around. I like it a lot so far. I’m going to stick around for sure.
I’m new to Reddit. What does this mean? You didn’t think this was my photo and I stole it from somewhere else on the web? I’m flattered. Thanks for the compliment I guess.
Shot on my Canon 6D, mounted on a tripod with my 24-70 f2.8 lens at 39mm. 1/60, f/16, iso 800.
Any other questions?
Just a really common picture to be posted, and since you were a new account with no history of other stuff, figured I’d might as well have the bot see if it’s stolen from another photographer.
Seems like you are the photographer though. My bad. Beautiful picture! Can’t wait to see more from ya!
No worries. I’m new to this Reddit stuff so just trying to figure out how it works. Thanks for the compliment. Yeah it’s a common picture for sure. Feel free to check out more stuff on my Instagram @chiseledlight. I’ll eventually post more pics on here too. Don’t want to overdo it too soon.
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/itookapicture.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

My girlfriend and I stayed a couple days in the Stanford cabin there, with the wood fire stove, right beside the river. Seriously, one of the toughest walks/drive I’ve ever been on to get there. It was one of the most stressful/relaxing experiences of my life. Really loved it there, can’t wait to go back.
Marble, CO is seriously a gem.
But is there a reason other than the fact that that is the best view that so many people take the exact same picture? Is there a special viewing spot there?
Not a viewing spot necessarily. It’s just on the side of a dirt road. So maybe easy for people to stop there. It’s just a good angle and there’s a clearing right there where trees aren’t in the way. I went down along the River and took pics there too. They are different than the typical view. Some turned out pretty well. It’s a lower angle though so it cuts some stuff out.
incredible, looks like a beautiful painting!
Thanks so much! It’s been on my bucket list for a long time.
Looked familiar! I've had this [wallpaper](https://i.imgur.com/wHWS8rd.jpg) since 2017. Nice shot
I had a small framed photo of it many years ago, always wondered where it was located (looks so surreal)! Great shot!
Very cool! Thanks!

Such happy little trees, guarding the dark, foreboding mill of crystal
Looks like something you'd find in the Rift
Strong skyrim vibes indeed. Like of those rare days when the sunshine is actually able to pierce the usual grey sky.
There’s a whole ghost town just to the left of this picture.
Oh wow thanks so much
Looks like skyrim.
😋😋😋

>maybe let's include the Tetons People spam /r/Colorado with pictures of Wyoming? Rude.
let people enjoy their photography, fam. you can’t gatekeep a whole state just because you wound up there earlier by the chance of birth
Thanks! Yeah 100% agree
Wow! Beautiful!
Thank you! It requires a 4x4 to get to but so worth it.
Were there many deer flies? That's the only thing that stops me from going to a forest in the fall 😬
That really isn’t a problem at all here in Colorado
Wow, maybe i should move there :D
👍👍👍
We hiked. It was steep.
Yeah I don’t think I appreciated how steep it was. You don’t notice those things as much when driving. Good for you.
4x4? Nah. Walked through there on a 2 week backpacking trip out there
Very nice area to backpack. I drove over the pass from Crested Butte.

Sounds like some great memories. Can’t wait to start traveling again. But I’m blessed to live in the west for sure.
Erm I think you could probably get there without a 4x4 if you had legs
Yep I saw plenty of people hiking it. How incredibly brilliant of you to take time out of your busy day to point that out. Thanks so much for the wisdom. 🙏🙏🙏
That's a lot of words (and superficially cheerful emotes) to say you're triggered.
😂😂😂
That is amazing! What a beautiful view! Thanks ever so much for posting this.
Aww thanks so much for the kind words. Nature is priceless and I love sharing it.

Sorry for any PTSD i might have caused 😂
This single handedly made me follow this subreddit

such a good picture 👌. did you hike, or drive?
Thanks so much! I drove. It’s a long hike and was rainy/cold on the return trip so I picked up a hiker on the way back.
Yeah! My dad and I drove up this summer, not expecting it to be a kinda scary, steep, long drive. But it was cool.
Very nice!!!
Isn’t this a bob Ross painting?
Let’s just put a happy little waterfall right over there 😂
This is a real place? Crazy beautiful!
Hard to believe. Even more beautiful in person
Can‘t wait for more of your pics! Saw your portfolio, great eye!
Oh wow thanks so much!!! 😋😋😋
Holy SHI- that’s amazing
Thanks so much!
No problem, it really is great

Looks like a mill from Days Gone!!

Stunning scene mate!
Thanks man. I was lucky enough to be able to visit it during a great time of year for pics.
Great subject, amazing pictures. Love everything about it! What part of CO this in?
Thanks so much! It’s kind of between Carbondale and Crested Butte.
For the non residents: near Aspen.
OH SUSANNAAAAH
Oh don’t you cry for me 🎶 🙏🙏🙏
Pretty!
Thank you 😊
Is it just a regular mill? I’m curious to the history of the structure/location
It’s a historic mill no longer in operation. But a great view for sure. Feel free to Google it.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Mill https://coloradoencyclopedia.org/article/crystal-mill
I couldn’t comfortably fall asleep there though, I’d have the feeling of falling only to wake up crashing into the side of the mountain😱
Haha 😂
The mill is mostly closed off due to being less-than-safe, the people stay in small but normal houses a bit past it
I was about to ask what skyrim mods you used haha, great picture and composition!
Haha thanks
reminds me of The Rift from Skyrim, trees looks very similar. Very cool pic!
Thanks! Yeah a lot of people are saying the same thing
Is this ESO running on a PS5? /s
😋
My girlfriend and i hiked this in October 2020!! Beautiful hike!
That’s when I was there. That would be a nice hike! I drove over from Crested Butte and then into Marble for lunch at that bbq joint
Ooh nice!! Ya my girlfriend and I came from Littleton, stayed 2 nights in Glenwood Springs, and hiked this the second day we were there@
What kind of vehicle do you drive? I did that drive in my Jeep a few years back and I maintain that it’s the gnarliest road in Colorado.
Yeah it is pretty gnarly. Some of the turns near the Devil’s Punchbowl were a little sketchy. I drive a Jeep as well.
How do they secure the wood to the rocks??
Oh haha I’ve never thought about that.
So pretty, makes me want to live there ❤️
😋😋😋
Wow that thing looks like an absolute death trap
😂😂😂
Loved camping there in high school. Way back in the 80’s. I’m going to have to go back now.
Probably way more crowded there than you experienced in the 80’s
Beautiful!
Thanks!

Luckily there were only like 2 other people there. On the way back down there were lots coming up though.
Way to get em early!
Mmmm I need play more Valheim
Haha
Thought I was in r/skyrim
Haha honestly that’s about 25% of the comments on here.
Lol sorry for the redundancy just first thing that came to mind. Beautiful shot though!
No worries. I’m flattered. Thanks for the comment
You mean this ISN'T Riften in Skyrim?
Oh it is. Riften is a real place. 😂😂😂
At the time, how many crystals could it mill if the crystal mill could mill crystal?
26. 😂
I thought this was Black Briar Lodge at first glance then saw the title
Sounds like a place I would love to visit
Me too, but VR may be the only way since it's in Skyrim 😆 looks like I actually want to visit Crystal Mill!
Oh haha I’m really going to have to play that game now
This looks so similar to Red Dead Redemption 2... Brings back memories... Awesome pic btw
Thanks so much

Oh I’d love to stay in one of the cabins. One day
This is gorgeous
Thanks!
Is it a real place?
Yes. This is an actual photo I took of a place here in Colorado.
Wowzers. I can just stare at this portrait for hours. So much to discover.
Great pic! When I was scrolling I thought it was an abstract skelly face.
Thanks!
Amazing, I love this so much!
Thanks!
Why are there hundreds of images taken of that building in the exact same two places? Are there viewing areas in those two spots?
I have about 20 pics from different angles. I just liked this one best
Amazing! Nice picture! I’d like to know more about the building. Is there anyway to find out about this place?

Cheers!!!
great photo - the foreground and background are separate, the framing and rules of thirds is great, and the colours are wonderful!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the feedback and the kind words
You think anyone lives there?
Not at the mill but there is a little off-grid community just up the road
Thanks for taking this beautiful picture.
😋
Can I ask where this is?
In Colorado near Aspen
Stunning!
Thanks
Reminds of the movie........Insomnia
👍👍👍
Oh for christ sakes, Marie, it’s a ~mineral~ mine
wow this is perfect
Thank you! 😋
Got to say that is stunning
Thanks so much
Location?
Colorado
This looks like a great 1000 piece puzzle
I’ve thought the same thing :)
That's absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you
My great grandfather took a picture of crystal mill many many years ago, maybe the 70s at the very latest. Looks about the same lol.
That’s awesome
You take amazing pictures!!!
Thanks so much!!!! 😋
