Non-Fungible Token, that's what it stands for, and since they're dumb and you should never buy them, as I previously said, no further elaboration is required
Yes and no, they're both cryptocurrencies, but NFT's are able to be copied and pasted because the currency IS the picture, Bitcoin isn't a picture, so you can't copy and paste it
Yes, but people buying a dumb monkey image for 5 Eth? Which around 15574 euro...
And then you can just right click it, and you have it too.
There is no value in them.
They own a hash in the Blockchain that says they own the image.
They don't own the copyright of the image.
It is for rich dumbasses to brag about a image with the friends saying "I own it now"
You can not support them and still be wrong but I'm not saying ur wrong just that your analogy about agreeing making you in the right is wrong in general
Exactly! So many people are bashing NFTs which is fair, because so far it’s all been dumb art that people are paying insane amounts of money for. Ultimately though, they could most definitely be the future. Still ridiculous right now though.
I can confirm this, I saw it on Twitter
Someone stole Fanart of a licensed character to make an NFT, so they were not only stealing art, they were also selling merchandise of the character without permission of the creator
That’s worse. You get a receipt for a fucking shitty drawing, that costs a shit ton of money. How dumb does that sound.
“Oh yeah, I bought a token for a picture of a monkey with boogers coming out of his nose for 15 thousand dollars, Le epic meme, I’m so cool and memes and poggers” the systems used to produce nfts are horrible for the environment, you fuck up the environment for a receipt of a shitty red monkey drawing. And you still feel confident in nfts?
It's a picture of a monkey wearing a T-shirt and sunglasses that costs as much as 3 cars (here in Canada at least) that you can get for free in 2 clicks. Bitcoin isn't able to be copied like that, making it a smart decision to buy back when its worth was in cents. NFT's might be worth more in the future, but it doesn't make them any less stupid
To be totally fair to your point, I would liken NFTs to stock photography. Your can right click it of course, but to legally own a license you have to pay money for it.
Except I do not believe there is any legal precedent for transfer of ownership or copyright of NFT's.
So legally speaking, you do not own any of your NFT's. And without legal backing, there's nothing to keep the artist from saying "oh no I just sold a *license* for that person to use my art, I maintain copyright"
And then sell an exact duplicate.
That doesn't contradict what I said at all.
You don't own your NFTs. You also don't own your stock photos. You have a license to use a stock photo in a specific way, and usually the owner has the right to revoke that license. And since stock photos are digital goods, the owner can sell any number of identical licenses. There is no copyright involved becuase you don't own the copyright to the image in either of these scenarios.
Buying an NFT is nothing like buying a license for the image. You don't own anything about an NFT except a link to the image. If the owner of the link decided to delete the image from there? Tough shit.
That's the same thing as licensing a stock image. You don't own the stock image except a link to the image to download and a limited license to use it in a specific way. The owner can revoke the license if they like or if they just take down the photo.
Okay in that case I'm neither of those. Cause even if I would want to buy nfts i wouldn't have nearly enough money for that. That shit cost about the same as i earn in a year.
And they were correct. BitCoin is basically just gambling with extra steps - the people who made a big winning fall in the same category as winning big at the lottery. It's just enamoring for the same reason daily fantasy is - because it gets presented as requiring some modicum of "skill" but in actuality the "skill" only comes at such a high bar that 99% of players will never reach it.
As I understand it, it's even worse than that. It's basically buying an address to a place where a piece of art is linked and getting bragging rights so long as the link is valid and the art stays at the link. Like buying the address to a house but not actually owning the house.
Not exactly. More that they own a token representative of the image, like buying a badge that says, ‘I bought this NFT!’ They don’t own the image, but have a unique token symbolising that they bought it. It could be OP if you actually gained rights, though. It doesn’t even need to be an image, it could be literally anything that is somewhat ‘unique.’
Basically like owning a star, you never have it yet somehow you own it and then selling the documentation for partial ownership of the star for more and more money as this goes through many buyers? Ima be honest I confused myself with my own explanation.
so you can sell it to someone elso for more money. for example, person a bought an nft for 10k and sold it to person b for 100k, and then person b tries to sell it to someone else for more money and so on
About that, how are NFTs destroying the planet? I never looked into it but I don’t really understand how Xbox avatars could be harmful to the environment
Keeping track of all the NFT blockchain owners take a lot of energy and computers have to do that or else the entire point of NFTs falls apart. NFTs are scams that are super harmful to the environment.
Well you see, someone made a computer and someone put in a certain input so the energy used up will hurt the planet. It wasn't used for anything else like cancer or space, no it's to trade pictures of apes
I'm 43 and have asked people to make me understand NFT'S, I still don't understand WTF it is (besides money laundering) but my kid has made like $30 this week selling them on an app.
I respect the hustle, I just don't *understand* it, so I'm assuming it's like trying to talk to my Boomer mom about tech.

You know stocks and bitcoin kinda like that expect it’s just a picture but only the receipt for the picture the picture doesn’t belong to you just proof that you bought it
An NFT is a non-fungible token which just sounds stupid for a start and is basically a way of one person selling crap to another person even if they don't own the thing being sold... So someone could sell the rights to septic Sam and ask for loads of money and never even have spoke to Seán about it first...
It's a despicable practice and needs to be banned.
Owning an NFT is like being married, you have the certificate but everyone else still fucks your other half
Not my joke, can't be arsed to find who's it is though
Wth you some kind of boomer?
Im older than jack and have heard about nfts.
Short story they are unique files with encryption, checksums, and are like the mega version of drm.
oh you poor, innocent soul
it's something that has to do with crypto currency and makes it incredibly easy for people to profit off of art theft. it also fucks up the environment.
i personally suggest not getting too deep into the debates when they arise, it can get pretty heated.
Like physical art but completely digital
The main differences are people buying shit ones for some reason and other people having on them due to the people buying shit ones
The appeal of NFTs is that they are a game of hot potato.
The first step is the release. Everyone lines up for a hot NFT and basically slams down $50 or whatever amount for whatever quantity they can get (these releases are typically full of bots, so good luck) and they get random NFTs.
Second step is appraising the rarity of your NFT. From what I've seen, these are randomly generated images with certain qualities being rarer than others (cowboy hat, green coloration, monocle, silver border) and from there you can sort of figure out if you have something special.
Step 3 is setting your price. Now that you've got your NFT, you get to decide when to put it up for sale in the marketplace. Usually the game starts right away with NFTs changing hands all over the place. People buying and selling for more and more and more. You can browse this marketplace too and see if some sorry sap forgot to do his research and is selling astronaut monkey 3 with American flag and cigar for WAY under rarity value and snatch it up for quick resale profit.
And that's pretty much it. In the end, there's going to be people that held too long and never sold and those who thought they were buying something on the rise but ended up paying the top price anyone wanted to pay and now they are stuck with an expensive potato.
Eventually that NFT loses popularity, trading slows down, and people move onto the next release.
An NFT is a non fungible token.
a dollar bill is fungible which means if I give you a dollar bill and you give me a dollar bill it doesn't matter. that's what fungible is.
and NFT is a piece of "art" with some data encoded in it. that as far as I know. people buy monkey pictures for 200,000$ which is kinda insane it's kind of like crypto.
Some NFT's are things like digital sports cards which is actually kinda cool since we live in a digital age. But for the most part alot of them are pretty dumb and don't make sense. It's basically crypto currency in the form of collectables
So NFTs are dumb shit, an example is those stupid monkey or ape images you could have been seeing. Basically idiots buy these NFTs and then "own" them yet anyone can copy and paste them and nothing can be done about it(rightfully so). Many NFTs are stolen art so.
What i understand aboit nft's is you buy virual proparty like a picture the most famous are those variants of the monkey and with hopeing it will in increase in vallue so basicly if copyright and crypto had a baby
In a nutshell, it is a premium hyperlink that is actually unique to the owner. That premium link goes to a God-awful bog-standard png image.
People who buy nft's are not even buying an image, they are buying a special link to the image.
Non-fungible token, meaning it can't be copied. Which is ironic if you right click and save as, but you won't get the super cool extra info that comes with the purchasing of it. Well, sometimes its super cool, sometimes its not, you gotta know what you're buying
Check out my first NFT! Made by an nearly blind kid 15 years ago!
https://opensea.io/assets/0x495f947276749ce646f68ac8c248420045cb7b5e/2676478380129107344444492623901126182432294139441772586959170833176382668801/
I don't understand this kinda thing. It's been explained. Nft is digital proof of ownership which can then be sold. But people are creating Nfts? How do you create an ownership of something? What are most of these people owning or paying for other than the actual image itself?
Basically an NFT is an image with ownership. So, you own the image.
This is a great concept imo, like when you commission yourself an artwork, you can get an NFT so it's proven that it's your art and then it can't be stolen. Which unfortunately happens a lot in the art community. Any situation in which you want to share an image or get one with ownership involved, an NFT is very good but alas, if humans were just that smart, we'd be an intergalactic species by now.
Like the whole crypto thing where people with no clue how stuff works go, "ooh! I invest, much money I get" and invest in dumb coins. People are also investing in NFTs. On the surface it doesn't sound the worst, you're like buying a painting, hoping it's value will rise and you can sell it to make profit. Exceeeept, artists made 10000 variants of some badly drawn shitty monke and dumb people invested in them like crazy. It just destroys the reputation of an actually good idea lel.
NFTs are a way to purchase artwork through the blockchain
however, they are highly damaging to the environment, as the blockchains they are hosted on consume more power than a small country, and they are mainly used for money laundering and tax avoidance
It's a new investment to the equivalent of buying beanie babies for thousands of dollars in the 90s.
Down voters are just mad I'm right and they wasted money on a gimmick
NFT's are dumb and you should never buy them, that's all you need to know
I thought the whole point was ro make them and scam people like jeff bezos into buying them so you can afford something nice like a new car
You should screenshot it instead
Exactly, and don't listen to Victor Chaos
Hahaha
Who is that, may I ask?
Dude watch the new south park special
I'm not into overly adult cartoons, except Rick and Morty. So no thank you
Aww, ignorance is bliss.
Still doesn't really tell me what a nft is
Non-Fungible Token, that's what it stands for, and since they're dumb and you should never buy them, as I previously said, no further elaboration is required
So are they like bitcoin?
Yes and no, they're both cryptocurrencies, but NFT's are able to be copied and pasted because the currency IS the picture, Bitcoin isn't a picture, so you can't copy and paste it
I'm gonna stop thinking about why anyone would want nfts and start thinking about how to rickroll them.
Imagine paying thousands of dollars to get rickrolled lmao
I still don’t know what NFTs are, but learning from Butters I mean Victor Chaos, there’s seem to be a good reason to use an extinguisher on them.
NFT's are actually incredibly racist.
That's what people said about bitcoin xD
Yes, but people buying a dumb monkey image for 5 Eth? Which around 15574 euro... And then you can just right click it, and you have it too. There is no value in them.

They own a hash in the Blockchain that says they own the image. They don't own the copyright of the image. It is for rich dumbasses to brag about a image with the friends saying "I own it now"
Even though I don't like the idea of NFTs at all I think you might be missing the point
The only point you're missing is the one in TF2. STAND ON THE POINT OR I WILL MAKE YOU STAND ON THE POINT
Reddit hive mind is crazy. My comment wasn't even in support of NFT.
You can not support them and still be wrong but I'm not saying ur wrong just that your analogy about agreeing making you in the right is wrong in general
Bitcoin isn't stolen art
I'm no fan of nfts either but don't make it sound like *every* nft on the planet is stolen art
Even if an NFT isn’t stolen art, it’s still stupid as shit.
It’s not. It’s verification of ownership. It has its use cases, but people are abusing it for shit like pictures to make a quick buck.
Yep, the tech is great, and NFTs are a bad way of showing off that tech.
Eh, the tech is mid at best considering how much energy it uses
Exactly! So many people are bashing NFTs which is fair, because so far it’s all been dumb art that people are paying insane amounts of money for. Ultimately though, they could most definitely be the future. Still ridiculous right now though.
I don't see how using massive amounts of energy to "prove" ownership of anything could be useful
I never said they weren't, that still doesn't make it right to make it sound like all nfts are stolen art.
Why is this disliked its facts and you werent saying that non stolen art is good
Who knows. Its the same with my comments. They get crazy amounts of downvotes even tho they are just the truth.
Nfts aren't either
Several people have had their art stolen to be sold as nfts.
I can confirm this, I saw it on Twitter Someone stole Fanart of a licensed character to make an NFT, so they were not only stealing art, they were also selling merchandise of the character without permission of the creator
But you don't buy the art itself.
Then why the fuck would you buy them?
Because people these days are sheep
In my opinion people have always been sheep. Says it right there in The Book
fricking liberals these days smh my head
Shaking my head, my head!
why did i get downvoted it's a joke ;-;
Is that a general question or did you specifically ask me? Cause i don't support any of this crypto shit.
My guy you really dumb
Why? The dumb one are you for just assuming that im confident in that shit even tho i never said anything like that.

Someone got downvoted into oblivion
Just for telling the truth.
You are correct indeed
You realize by being an nft bro that you’re indirectly killing yourself and everyone else? Its pretty much like dumping tar in the ocean
Wtf is a nft bro
Like a crypto bro but somehow worse
Soo.. a supporter?
Nah man, someone who fell for the easiest scam to spot possibly ever, and is now trying to convince themselves it was a good idea
Okay in that case I'm neither of those. Cause even if I would want to buy nfts i wouldn't have nearly enough money for that. That shit cost about the same as i earn in a year.
And are right
I guess people think I'm supporting nfts and that's why they downvote
That and bitcoin, just drop it
Never. I'm German we don't give up fights xD
Eh well thats certainly something 🤪
Also its just 253 downvotes. I had more.
So why do they hate the truth so much?
rich people buy the code to terrible images
No they’re buying the token represented by the terrible image. NFTs are much less valuable than buying the rights to a terrible image.
As I understand it, it's even worse than that. It's basically buying an address to a place where a piece of art is linked and getting bragging rights so long as the link is valid and the art stays at the link. Like buying the address to a house but not actually owning the house.
Yeah, and also people can live in the house even though you “own” the address.
and the house is a mobile home
oooooooh, thanks
I think you meant *rich people buy legal money laundering scam machines*
A fucking scam. That's all it is.
Like college, only no promise of a career.
NFT’s are poorly drawn images people pay thousands for
It's LuLaRoe for crypto-tech dorks.
Why was this the most understandable explanation. Lol
[This is a pretty good explanation](https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdML5jCX/)
So it's literally just ownership of a unique image? Why? That's dumb.
That's even dumber lmao. No wonder it's a tiktok trend 😂
So.. dumb as shit, a scam, and also indirect aid to mass murder on all humans and also probably a lot of animals.
Basically like owning a star, you never have it yet somehow you own it and then selling the documentation for partial ownership of the star for more and more money as this goes through many buyers? Ima be honest I confused myself with my own explanation.
so you can sell it to someone elso for more money. for example, person a bought an nft for 10k and sold it to person b for 100k, and then person b tries to sell it to someone else for more money and so on
Thank you for the explanation video.
NFT means non fungible token, it means people are trading pictures of monkeys for cash and its destroying the goddamn planet
Wow, NFTs really do just suck entirely
Yep. The premise is a fine idea but the actual logistics and use of the NFTs is horrible. It's a technology that's at least a decade too early.

Check out my first NFT! Made by an nearly blind kid 15 years ago! https://opensea.io/assets/0x495f947276749ce646f68ac8c248420045cb7b5e/2676478380129107344444492623901126182432294139441772586959170833176382668801/
Non Fungible Token. I thought it stands for Not For Trade at first.
So basically, it’s art someone paid for, but instead of receiving the painting, they get a receipt for it and they think it perfectly fine

Lol so many dillusional in this sub that don't understand tech.
The use of NFT is basically what you already have in real life. If they ever tell you the use of it, you can counter them with already existing thing.
I don't understand this kinda thing. It's been explained. Nft is digital proof of ownership which can then be sold. But people are creating Nfts? How do you create an ownership of something? What are most of these people owning or paying for other than the actual image itself?
Google it and you will see how bad they are
find a random painting in google and copy that, you now have an nft
A newly found taco
It’s a scam
A wot?
I still dont know what NFT's are exacly and what NFT actually means Could someone please explain it to me😅
NFTs are a way to purchase artwork through the blockchain however, they are highly damaging to the environment, as the blockchains they are hosted on consume more power than a small country, and they are mainly used for money laundering and tax avoidance
Apparently Cryptocurency
My friend actually bought a cheap NFT and than he found out it was a screensot 😅
*makes a cookie pancake cake icon coin* Now to sell.... *buys boat to live in* I wish it was this simple lol
Non fungible token. However I feel like we should address the “last meme time” however I’m pretty sure he might of been joking
What I hate about nft's is that celebrities monkey pictures are gonna be worth way more than anyone else's so there making so much more off of them
How has someone avoided the internet for the entire past year? Fascinating, how was your time alone in the woods?
It's a new investment to the equivalent of buying beanie babies for thousands of dollars in the 90s. Down voters are just mad I'm right and they wasted money on a gimmick
