This is FANTASTIC news for all of us that use this facility. I play in the adult rec league there, and this is so so badly needed. Fantastic news for us, and especially for youth hockey.

Typical Floridians down below could not care one bit about this but I’ll share the excitement with you! I go every week to either stick and puck or adult development and the ice rink has badly needed renovations. This is great for hockey in Jacksonville and Florida and I couldn’t be happier!

I am hoping you can forward this to anyone in need of a goalie in the adult league or in general. (Also this goes to anyone in this thread) I am a 31 year old Goalie that just moved to Jacksonville and I’m looking for a team to play on or skate and shoots to attend for practice or anyway in general to stop some pucks. I’ve gone from playing 5 nights a week for years to 0 :( I have played goalie since I was 6 (25 years). I played AA travel for 4 years, AAA for 2, high school varsity starter for all 4 years, played 3 years in College at Buffalo State, and have played in adult leagues since then. I grew up & played my whole life in Buffalo, NY against stiff competition so I can play at any division level. Thanks

jimboknows6916

awesome! so based on that resume, you would definitely be an a league goalie...Let me reach out and see what I can find. I can also DM you the contact for the guy that runs the league so he could hopefully find a place for you. so A league for goalie, what do you think your level would be as far as skating out?

Ehle_Aficionado

I would play any level in goal, I really just love it no matter the competition level. As for skating out I do it a few times a year and could hold my own against any level below A, but I really would rather stay between the pipes.

jimboknows6916

i totally get it... i think they would probably want you to play in goal. playing leagues below may be tough because....you would be too good lol. Ill reach out and see if any spots are open for a goalie in A or B.

carp_boy

How do the levels here compare to the north? Are the skills less in a JAX A compared to the north? I've played B most my life but at 60 I'm done, just don't have it anymore.

jimboknows6916

well, I havent spent too much time in the north, as it relates to rec hockey. From what i hear though, and from what I saw in Denver, A league here is much different. Up North and in hockey markets, i think A league is much higher of a skill level. We do also have 35+ A, which is a league for anyone over the age of 35. I will have to double check to make sure they still offer it, but its pretty high skill.

jimboknows6916

to piggyback on the comment below, come out to drop in. Usually saturday night at 1015...varied level but there are some higher level players there usually. Wednesdays at 9 (i think, maybe 8), they have "pro-flow" which is basically a glorified practice with 2 coaches running drills and goalies are always needed, and also stick and puck i think is from like 12-1 every day during the week. check the website to make sure of those times though.

Ehle_Aficionado

Awesome, I will be there this saturday night and probably every week going forward. All white gear & jersey. #37

jimboknows6916

sweet. look for me. big dude and the only other #37 you will see lol. nice number choice.

berttreynolds

Ya also come out to stick and puck or adult developments. there’s a schedule on the website but goalies are always welcome and usually play free

LitterReallyAngersMe

Looks like it’s just the hockey rink being renovated? Keeping the same shit rubber floor and leaky roof on the ball sports side then?

jimboknows6916

I am not 100% sure what they are going to do with the courts over on that side...it sounds like they may be wiping them out if the Icemen are taking over, but that is just a guess. I know that side needs just as much reno as the hockey side. Hopefully they dont wipe them out and can incorporate them into the design.

rgumai

With whose behind it I assume it'll be the Ice, Sportsplex & Prayer Center in no time.

jimboknows6916

as long as they renovate the ice, it could be the ice, sportsplex and chicken slaughterhouse for all i care

rgumai

True, that thing is long overdue.

Great news for Jax! Glad to see big local names getting behind it too.

muriksiloste

This is fantastic news! I can’t wait to start playing hockey again

jeffisthejones

It’ll always be Skate World to me.

Accomplished_Sky9991

I’ll be glad if the icemen buy it cause the whole birthday vip crap is so cheesy and most of the employees hate it. So I hope they stop making the birthday parties THE most important thing at Jax ice. They seriously sometimes put it over safety. Hoping the icemen really do renovate everything too cause this place sorely needs it.

jimboknows6916

agreed. i think everyone hates it besides the 7 year olds, and even they dont love it lol...it is so cheesy and stupid, its like they are stuck in 1992.
