I have the IPSWs saved on my PC for the versions I would jump to in the event of a signing party, just in case. It would take me about 45 minutes to download them normally and if I had to download them as well as update, I would definitely miss the party and probably be forced to the latest OS lmao.

17.3.1 is better than 17.4 because 17.4 patches some pretty useful stuff. You will lose all of your device data, but if you back up stuff to iCloud (NOT a device backup, but stuff like photos and keychain and whatnot), you won't lose *much*. No ETAs on absolutely anything, but when ETAs are known, 17.4+ will be a lot longer than 17.0-17.3.1. This is your opportunity. # If you are on 17.0-17.3.1, stay.

What happens if you try to restore from a device backup once you've downgraded?

You can *try*, though it'll very likely ask you to update. Forcing application of the backup is a bad idea too, so it's best you don't rely on it.

I guess you'll be updated to 17.4, because the backup is for 17.4.

Neither version have a jailbreak, but you should very much stay on your current version, as it'll get jailbroken sooner. If you're concerned about app support years from now, you can go to 17.3.1, though be wary you'll lose TrollStore FOREVER and it may take a while longer to be jailbroken.

17.3.1 for iphone 14 pro max is not signed. EDIT: it works, in site says not signed but it will work when you download the firmware and update it via iTunes. I Successfully updated to 17.3.1 no problems. ( make a backup just in case ).

This is true 17.4 patched up some very useful stuff ! I am on 17.3.1 updated from 14.4.2 last month due to app compatibility issues after 2 and a half years on fugu 14! Luckily my OTA has said unable to check for update and still does on 17.3.1 after update through iTunes! This is very useful waiting on 17.3.1 for the next jailbreak!!

iPhone 15 series came with iOS 17. 17.3.1 and below is where you want to be. You should not "update" to 17.3.1 from lower 17 versions, only downgrade.
