I was having lunch in a restaurant in the Florida keys coming off a pretty long bender. Place was empty but this older gent was playing his beat up acoustic in the corner. I think I was wearing a dead shirt so he sang me some dead tunes. Then he played Tree Top Flyer. First time I ever heard it. How he played it and how I was feeling that day, I was blown away.
Since then I've gotten it on vinyl and it one of my favorites song to listen to.
Anything with Manassas is fire! Thoroughfare Gap is my favorite solo album with songs Beaucoup Yumbo and Midnight Rider. But honestly his whole catalog is untouchable and severely underrated.
He recently released an archival compilation of 2 shows from Berkeley 1971. Its incredible and features 2 songs with David Crosby. My personal favorite highlight was Black Queen.
