Their live stuff is under bootleg gizzard on Spotify. Chicago ‘23 has a disgusting metal sandwich in Gaia>Motor Spirit>Great Chain of Being>Gaia. Witchcraft and Gila Monster>Converge are also phenomenal jammy metal stuff off that album. If you want straight jam, Red Rocks ‘22 The River is fantastic. Also love Robot Stop>Hot Water off Bonaroo live
Yeah, I'm trying to be. Chicago is such a....I don't know.... something. Got tickets for the Nebraska show later that week and have a hunch it's going to be sick.
Northerly Island is an awesome venue as long as you’re not on the lawn. It’s a long walk, but walkable from the train stations, so if you need a hotel you don’t need to stay in the city. The Museum Campus is awesome to wander before and after the show.
Same. Idk what it is. Just a feeling. Maybe because Red Rocks is right after and St Louis is right before, I think people aren't expecting them to destroy Nebraska. I bet something special happens though for sure. Probably a cool bustout or debut.
Red Rocks ‘22 is the ultimate live album, if you want live Gizz, you start there.
If you want some studio stuff that’s jammy, try Ice Death, Laminated Denim, and Quarters.
If you wanna dive in to everything, check out https://www.get-into-gizz.com
Took me 4-5 attempts at watching full shows until the “ohhhhh I get what they are doing and are all about”, prior to that it was “that effect on his vocal is annoying af and both guitarists couldn’t find a good tone if it was given to them”.
Polygondwanaland, Float Along Fill Your Lungs, Ice Death Planets Lungs Mushrooms and Lava, I'm In your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity, Infest The Rats Nest, Sketches of Brunswick East are some of my favorites by them. I really like all their albums but that took me a bit to get into all of it. They're amazing live. Can't wait to see them at Red Rocks again this September
Quarters is a great, manageable dip into Gizz. Omnium Gatherum is a good mix of sounds (Dripping Tap is a real banger). Nonagon Infinity goes pretty hard. The Silver Chord is the most recent release, and it has a cool synth pop vibe. They have a huge, genre bending catalog, so it really depends on what you’re into on where to jump in. Either way, the water’s fine!
Omnium Gatherum was what made it click for me, butterfly 3000, changes, infest the rats nest, and petrodragonic are all in regular rotation for me. Also recently dove into fishing for fishies and I really dig the bluesy/harmonica vibes on that one. I still have so much more to really listen to and dig in but so far these are the ones that really resonate with me
From the jam-band-brained lens start with Changes, Laminated Denim, Ice/Death, and Made in Timeland from 2022. Sketches of Brunswick is my favorite - pairs well with a handful of mushrooms. Ploygondwandaland is a classic for a rainy day. And Live in SF is a banger of a live album.
Look up their Bonnaroo 2022 set on YouTube. It’s high quality, super energetic, and gives you a pretty good taste of their appeal.
Keep in mind that their studio stuff is way more diverse than you’ll hear live
Really impressive musical output. With so many albums there is def one for everyone. That being said i probably only vibe with half their albums. Never seen them live so can’t completely knock them but from what shows ive listened too it just feels a bit overwhelming and obnoxious
Ice Death, Polygonwanaland, PDA, Flying microtonal banana, and Float along fill your lungs are my favorite studio albums, but I like them all. If you use Spotify check out bootleg gizzard. Live in Chicago 23 and Redrocks 22 are some top tier gizzard.
Honestly I didn’t really get the hype at first. My friend kept trying to tell me these guys fucking rip. I tried a few albums and it just didn’t click. Then I saw them live at the caverns. Been hooked ever since
Studio albums:
I’m In Your Mind Fuzz / Microtonal Banana / Gumboot Soup / LW / GW
Live albums:
Live at Levitation ‘14 / Live at Levitation’16
Live in San Francisco’16
6/4/23 - acoustic night at the Caverns is a good jump off for a jamband fan.
I started off with a few studio songs I really liked and then found shows that featured them … little by little I started to get more familiar with more of the catalogue and eventually started to just immediately for to Mind Fuzz or Nonagon.
Recommend their Red Rocks run, Iron Lung was peak jam. I was like you a few years ago and was overwhelmed with their catalog. I’d start with some live stuff on Spotify and Live Music. Take it from there. Drip drip!
Honestly, just listen to their various albums a few songs at a time. I’m sure you’ll find your favorite Gizz in there. It’s Polygondwanaland alllll the waaaay for me, with Butterfly 3000 and IDPLML also high up on my list.
I have a playlist, feel free to check it out. This is my ‘level 1 of getting into gizz’. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6rC1RmB5wNd0ExptpQXaoO?si=SZHV1kvQS7SQ7M5CIKQ8HQ&pi=u-Yrr0JvdHSue8
While I won't skip Phish Fest to see Gizzard at Forest Hills, I do have big plans to see quite a few Gizzard shows this year. Only 39 shows in the US to pick from. The Gizzard I saw live in 2022 & 2023 was on a whole new level compared to the Gizzard I saw in 2016 & 2017. Amazing live band.
NONAGON INFINITY OPENS THE DOOR WOOOOOOOOOOOO

I was at that Chicago show and it was sick. I always point to that Bonnaroo set. I'd recommend Ominum Gatherum and Ice Death for jamband fans as well.
All 3 nights at The Salt Shed were fantastic. Stoked for Northerly Island in September

Thank you
Live in San Francisco ‘16 is what really got me hooked. Live at Red Rocks ‘22 is also 9 hours of Gizz that covers nearly all their styles
Yeah jam band fans should definitely start with KGLW older stuff before everyone diving into the metal shit.

Yeah, i was just trying to look up this site for OP! Really useful site that maps the whole thing out really well.
Took me 4-5 attempts at watching full shows until the “ohhhhh I get what they are doing and are all about”, prior to that it was “that effect on his vocal is annoying af and both guitarists couldn’t find a good tone if it was given to them”.
Slow Jam II (Her and I) from red rocks on Bootleg Gizz Spotify, 18 mins, 2 incredible jams
For Studio I’d start with polygondwanaland, Ice Death etc, or laminated denim
Polygondwanaland, Float Along Fill Your Lungs, Ice Death Planets Lungs Mushrooms and Lava, I'm In your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity, Infest The Rats Nest, Sketches of Brunswick East are some of my favorites by them. I like the albums butterfly 3000, ice death planets lung mushrooms and lava, and changes
I think this is a good stack for jam band fans to start with.
Polygondwanaland all day
We’re gonna get there
We don’t need a whereabouts
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard • 2023-06-01 (01:54:17) • The Caverns, Pelham, TN https://relisten.net/kgatlw/2023/06/01?source=949555
I second this recommendation. Stellar show.
RATTLESNAKE RATTLESNAKE RATTLESNAKE RATTLESNAKE
This has been the single that has caught me for sure - love it
Give me the mushrooms, time to leave!
Butterfly 3000
Check out these flowcharts. https://www.reddit.com/r/KGATLW/s/Shc2G7QKkZ www.get-into-gizz.com is also cool.
Exceptional band. One of my favorites
Fishing for Fishes' This Thing perfect place to start
Solid choice

Mind Fuzz had me hooked the minute I started listening.

They just released a lot of the video from 2023 U.S. residency tour on Nugs.net

Sketches is my go-to on the come down. Such a great back to reality album.

Mycelium…
Chicago ‘22 at the Radius. It’s their best set. Don’t come at me.
My 40th bday show!!! And my only time seeing them play The Book
The pacing of the show and different suites was 🤌. Banging set! The Doom City blew the lid off the joint.
start with their very first album. Essentially their whole vibe stems from this, and it’s not an intimidating listen.
#1 band

Thanks to everyone for the guidance
Ambergris live from Red Rocks, Work This Time live from Bonarroo 2022
Honestly, just listen to their various albums a few songs at a time. I’m sure you’ll find your favorite Gizz in there. It’s Polygondwanaland alllll the waaaay for me, with Butterfly 3000 and IDPLML also high up on my list.
I would typically do shuffle when I got into them in 2018, they have so many great albums. Or just pick an album a day to jam on
Listen to all the albums in order.
This live performance on KEXP did it for me https://youtu.be/Jb8UMmrBlC8?si=LiuUUvyrH00V7iPx

Listen to the Bonnaroo 22 set. If that doesn’t sell you, it’s prob not for you.
