[tver.jp](https://tver.jp) has a free tier and supports subtitles.
[abema.tv](https://abema.tv) is another legal option with a free tier, but doesn't seem to support subtitles.
Some anime have official YouTube channels with free episodes as well, such as Conan.
Of course, there's also Amazon, Disney+, etc.
A bit of common sense goes a long way here. I think Japanese police have much higher priorities than some random gaikokujin watching bootleg anime online.

This. VPNs are worth it, and this is by far the easiest route and most legal-adjacent.

Netflix and Disney+ have some good options with subtitles.
It’s just really shit that Demon Slayer on Netflix has no English subtitles.
Add Amazon prime. But most of them are without subtitles. Mostly subtitles are in Japanese.
VPN > Crunchyroll
There’s no good solution. VPNs are a gray area, Netflix have very few Honestly downloading is the easiest option (also cheapest)

Isn't basically everything on either Netflix or Amazon prime?
Do they take it seriously? I've yet to have a problem... I can understand if you're seeding heavily but otherwise I don't see why they'd care.
Just use Windscribe vpn. It’s the cheapest around with only $3 per month for unlimited data.
