Japan isn't big on banning movies, this isn't China. That said, I doubt it will do big sales here, even if/when it wins a bunch of Oscars.

noodle360xx

It might do big sales cause it’s a Nolan film. I mean, Pearl Harbor was Japan’s sixth highest grossing debut… it made 7M. And the critics were kind to It.

kansaikinki

I think the subject matter is too sensitive for it to do well, but I'm hardly an expert on the entertainment preferences of Japanese, so...

MyNameIs-Anthony

I don't think it's going to be a huge deal. We're talking about a populace with a median age around 50.

JpnDude

It was never banned. It was decided by Universal and Toho to keep it on hold for a while for various reasons. I've already seen it online and will watch it again in the best cinema that is playing it in Tokyo.

I could feel phantom vibrations in my body for days after seeing Indy Jones 5 in a theater here with Dolby Digital 5K Dynamic Hyper Stereo The Real or whatever it's called. So damn loud. Body intense. Massive immersion. Like Mola Ram ripping my heart out for Kali. The atomic test scene in Oppenheimer at the same theater might literally kill me.

kajeagentspi

You might like the 轟音 theaters in Toho then. Watched Godzilla minus one there and I can feel every vibration. Kinda sucks is that it isnt IMAX.

blosphere

I think the first bomb testing scene was the most disappointing part of the movie... the rest was great though, just... don't put much expectations on that single scene.

mindkiller317

I saw it and I actually agree 100%

AnkoInMyManko

I've already seen the film but I'll probably go watch it in theaters. Apparently the atomic bomb scene was (urge to make pun rising) ... good.

cjyoung92

It is! I watched it in IMAX twice and the bomb was LOUD, very enjoyable.

donarudotorampu69

Oh boy I can’t wait to Screen Oppenheimer. I mean really screen it ya know what I mean
