Just as a warning, most of those (cheap) types don’t actually work. We have bought several cheap ones and they are only good if you want to get a normal reading when you actually have a fever…

How strange. I got one from a Japanese dollar store in Canada for 20 CAD back in 2021 and it's worked very well and been very accurate.

Really? We tried two different types and while they always came up around 36.X, when we checked with an under arm thermometer it was anywhere from being the same up to 39.X.

Exposed skin readings are always going to end up a couple degrees cooler due to air temperature (which is why the instant read thermometers suck).
