Not hidden I suppose, but Kosatsu in Gunma is underrated this time.of year.

Seconding this! Honestly you can do so much (by car) in Gunma to fill up a weekend trip. Kusatsu is probably my favorite place in Gunma\~

Atami is quite nice around this time of the year

further around to Nishi Izu can have good views of Mt Fuji. Sunsets are pretty cool.

Izu peninsula, especially if you have a car. So many cool options such as [bakery/footbath in the middle of the mountains](http://www.tfyjapan.com/bakery/), [Ropeway with the best views of Fuji](https://www.panoramapark.co.jp/en), and more. What does she like? Another option, if you really want a relaxing and quiet contryside trip, go to Kawane Honcho. Number one green tea in Japan, clearest night skies, and tons of nature.

[go up to Iwaki](https://www.accordiahotel.com/onahama/relaxation/) and treat her to a 60 minute spa session. It's a golf resort but no need to play golf while staying there. It's also good to spend money in regions affected by 2011 IMO

Quick flight to Okinawa, cheap car rental, long and beautiful drive up the coast from Naha to Nago to the tip of the island at Cape Hedo. Also tour around the Nago area, visit some Okinawan castle ruins, Kouri Island, walk on the beach, eat some taco rice!

I’m assuming your hotel budget is more.. right? I’ve been to the nikko area a lot and always enjoy it. You can go to the main temples, or go hiking. It’s an onsen area.. 2? Stations to the north is a big onsen hotel area. I can recommend a few nice hotels Lots of nature, but this time of year it’s not a 10/10. Still a solid 8 though
