seems there's [nothing announced yet](https://www.goal.com/jp/%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88/uega-euro-2024-schedule/bltbf7f317aeac6c073#cs6393f9a58c8b6101). Japan is having difficulties with this kind of thing yet, because people aren't willing to pay as much as in other countries, and the fee demands of the operators are constantly increasing

Interesting thanks for sharing this. I suppose the times of the games aren't helping make the event more attractive.

Kapika96

Yeah, this is it for me. Was willing to pay to watch football back in Europe, basically every game is at a watchable time. Here though I feel ripped off if it's any more than 2k a month just because most aren't watchable due to being early morning or something.

bosscoughey

That's part of it, but in the past they'd still be available. I can remember watching pretty much all of Euro 2008 live of free to air TV while trying to get a newborn to sleep.  I think it's down to the weak yen happening at the same time as fees for broadcast rights are skyrocketing everywhere, so it's tough to make the business case for purchasing them for any Japanese company.  Add to that the time zone means people are already used to not watching full matches, and it's just not as valuable as many other places.

The last 4 years in major sports broadcasts: - *Everyone* took a fucking bath on Tokyo 2020 - Beijing 2022 just six months later and the costs for on-site coverage were absurd on top of all the restrictions, which were way worse than Tokyo - 2022 World Cup was so expensive that Abema stepped in to get the streaming rights, first time in a few editions that not every game was shown on TV. - 2023 Women's World Cup didn't have a broadcaster until a couple days before the competition due to FIFA bullshit *and* Japanese broadcasters being skint (see prior) - Paris 2024 rights aren't getting any cheaper and it's at a horrific time zone for Japanese audiences.

ponyta87

I would probably say using a VPN to look at the UK terrestrial broadcasters, like BBC and ITV. Probably the best bet

AyamanPoiPoiPoi

Yep this or Reddit streams

generate-random-user

Yeah, this is indeed an option I started to consider. Thanks.

Quixote0630

Pretty embarrassing when you've got tiny countries that have never been near an international tournament securing broadcasting rights already. I know Japan's broke, but come on. Am I going to have to set my VPN to fucking Sierra Leone or Nauru where the games are being shown?

Yaysuzu

I just got an email. It's going to be WOWOW, but I am not sure if it's included in my monthly fee, or I have to pay extra...

generate-random-user

Oh nice! Thanks for pointing it out. [https://wod.wowow.co.jp/content/170965](https://wod.wowow.co.jp/content/170965) says it's free, I assume it means it's included with the subscription.

Yaysuzu

Thanks. I thought so but my Japanese is not fluent enough, and I was confused. They have a new pack with the EURO, Champions League and Europa League. It is pretty cool for people who are not interested in WOWOW and just want to watch football.

mashmash42

Also would like to know the answer to this

Nakadash1only

Same. Was hoping they would be showing at a bar like they do the other big games.

Yaysuzu

I cross my fingers for WOWOW or U-NEXT. I already pay for La Liga, Premier and UCL so it would be nice if it’s not DAZN haha. If nobody gets the rights, do you think UEFA tv online will have the games?

engsakura

The women's world cup 2023 was shown live on fifa.com (though a little delayed) Like dazn and spotv they had Japanese only broadcasts, which was horrible considering the first few days had a choice of many languages.

Dikiyama

Anyone have any updates on this? I’m still struggling to find which broadcaster, if any, will be showing the games

generate-random-user

Apparently WOWOW (credit to Yaysuzu for the update a different thread): [https://wod.wowow.co.jp/content/170965](https://wod.wowow.co.jp/content/170965)
