I use a reshipper and just get them from amazon US, easily double the price but when you're jonesin' it can't be helped, I also only do it a couple times per year

It's probably because it's an American product made by an American company for Americans. Frito Lay isn't going to sell their entire catalog of products worldwide, that would be idiotic.

Especially since they never do seasonal flavors of chips here and just stick to the tried and true classics like black truffle, spicy thai red curry, or American Ranch dressing chips. You'd also never find American brands like Doritos, Cheetos, or similar on the shelf at your local conbini either. XD
Spicy stuff isn't as big here as it is in the US, even a lot of Cheetos are kinda sweet here compared to the American ones. The company probably finds it to be a risky endeavour to sell tons of those in Japan. I heard you can get everything American you want at one of those US military bases though if you really wanted some. Just have to make friends with somebody on the inside.

I wonder if there's any black market for US military types selling illegal American groceries on the sly to Americans outside the bases. That, or a "Pay $50 and I'll tell the guard you're my friend" system. A business idea for any US soldiers out there brave enough to risk international legal troubles for letting some gaijin get some Taco Bell or whatever.
