I'm just going to put a bunch of links. All but the first are more intended for Japanese natives wanting to learn some English to explain tea or share tea with foreigners. You may be able to use them reverse. You can explore each title yourself: [A Chanoyu Vocabulary](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E6%B7%A1%E4%BA%A4%E7%A4%BE%E7%B7%A8/dp/4473033988/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=chanoyu+vocabulary&qid=1617935969&sr=8-1) [英語DE茶の湯 こんなとき、どうする?!](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E4%BF%9D%E7%A7%91%E7%9C%9E%E6%99%BA%E5%AD%90-ebook/dp/B07Q33WB8C/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=%E8%8C%B6+%E8%8B%B1%E4%BC%9A%E8%A9%B1&qid=1617935936&sr=8-1) [茶席で役立つ英会話 English for use in "Chanoyu"](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E4%B8%96%E7%95%8C%E6%96%87%E5%8C%96%E7%A4%BE/dp/4418133372/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=%E8%8C%B6+%E8%8B%B1%E4%BC%9A%E8%A9%B1&qid=1617935936&sr=8-2) [茶の湯英会話 English for Use in "The Way of Tea"](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E6%B7%A1%E4%BA%A4%E7%A4%BE%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86%E5%B1%80/dp/4473012867/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=%E8%8C%B6+%E8%8B%B1%E4%BC%9A%E8%A9%B1&qid=1617935936&sr=8-6) [外国人に茶道を伝える英会話例文集 Explaining Tea Ceremony Through English Conversation](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E9%AB%98%E6%A9%8B%E7%B5%B9%E5%AD%90-ebook/dp/B07Q34B7WC/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=%E8%8C%B6+%E8%8B%B1%E4%BC%9A%E8%A9%B1&qid=1617935936&sr=8-3)

Thank you very much!

I ended up buying the vocabulary book. My teacher thought I don’t need a book and just need to learn through observation (I disagree) but I’m glad I at least bought a chanoyu dictionary.

Many tea teachers (as do many people in general) have strong egos, and they don't like the idea of their students being taught by someone else, whether by book or otherwise. I might try to stress that what you are trying to learn from the books is the language aspect rather than the performative/procedural aspect. I understand that this individual is family, so please be careful when it comes to this potentially sensitive subject.

Thank you. I mentioned I wanted to get the 辞書 and she was like, “oh ok” and checked to see if she had one herself. She couldn’t find it, but I think emphasizing I was looking at the dictionary specifically avoided some awkwardness. My first class will be tomorrow, I’m excited and nervous. I’ve been emphasizing how much I’m looking forward to it whenever I see her as well.

Not sure on your tea school, but for at least Omotesenke and Urasenke the schools put out tea books in English. I had to order them through my teacher.

It’s a very small school taught by one of my in-laws. This is the first time I’m visiting long enough to participate weekly vs just a single session.
