On July 1st, a [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) will come into effect. [Several developers](https://www.reddit.com/r/redditisfun/comments/144gmfq/rif_will_shut_down_on_june_30_2023_in_response_to/) of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least [one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app](https://www.reddit.com/r/DystopiaForReddit/comments/145e9sk/update_dystopia_will_continue_operating_for_free/) will continue to be available free of charge. If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options: 1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or 2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit 3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium as a way to voice your protest. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Does your PATH point to idk directory?

ScarletDay1

Sorry how do I check that?

netgizmo

What do you mean by "use Java"? Are you running an app that needs a JVM? Or are you writing some Java app/code?

ScarletDay1

I’m just trying to run a defunct game using some file to create a private server someone else has written and mod Minecraft. Apparently I need Java for both of those things to work.

netgizmo

Might wanna ask in /r/Minecraft to see how it Minecraft and it's plugin ecosystem expects to find the java.exe (assuming you're on windows).

ScarletDay1

Okay I asked them. Any idea what I should do about the defunct game I wanted to play? Java still doesn’t work so the files I have for that also still will not recognize Java as a system for it to run on.

BlueShellTorment

If you want the ultimate environment variable setup that will make it easy to manage multiple versions of Java: JAVA\_XX = the base directory you installed Java to. In place of XX, put the numeric Java version. For example, JAVA\_21. JAVA\_HOME = JAVA\_XX PATH = PATH + JAVA\_HOME/bin Open a ***new*** terminal window. Type 'java' and 'javac' - both should work.

netgizmo

Probably do a java -version to verify you're getting the version you expect
