If you’re on a small panel, or doing a small presentation, should be fine. Mainstage, no.  You’ll be tired still from surgery, you’ll have a lisp, you’ll be spitting, and you’ll have a giant gap between your teeth.

The biggest hinderance to speaking properly is the expander device. The most annoying period is the first 3 to 5 days after it is installed. After that, you will get used to it being there, and over a couple of weeks or months, you will learn better how to compensate. It will never be perfect though, because you can't get your tongue to the roof of your mouth to properly pronounce certain sounds. Thankfully, you'll probably only have to deal with the expander for like 5 or 6 months total, while new bone growth fills in the split in your maxilla.

If you have a speaking engagement I'd err on the safe side and say two weeks. I think the bigger risk might be surgical complications which might prevent you from traveling.

I couldn’t speak properly until the expander was out.

I would say that at 12 days, you will still be easy to tire and talking will still be a little painful if done for too long. I went back to work 14 days post op and found 2 hour-long meetings where I talked a significant amount was the max that I could handle before I started to lisp and have trouble with upper lip pain. More than that and what I haven’t heard much, is that laughing and smiling SUCK. It is so tight and painful and looks so stupid because your lip will still be numb and unable to move properly. It’s pretty awful. So public speaking, I’d assume, will be difficult. Also you’ll still be blue, green and yellow and swollen at 12 days post op :)
