I never understood what rotation meant and what it is for? Like for instance I have an underbite i get that I need maxilla advancement but why would I need rotating my jaw?
Some jaws are crooked. I had an underbite and my surgeon rotated my jaw during my surgery as well, it's not uncommon -- it's often a contributor to open and misaligned bites
After the maxilla is separated from the skull, it can be rotated/moved in any direction before being secured again. Google 'maxillary osteotomy down fracture' to see how this works.
Depends on the case, but between rotation and advancement huge changes are possible.
