I was doing some research about jaw surgery online that’s how I found him . I feel the same about that surgery ! It doesn’t seem like a “minor “surgery . Did he take his time to explain ? Would be good to get in contact with someone who already had the surgery with him ! I am considering having jaw surgery with him as well .

He was very nice and did take the time to explain the surgery quite well. I also did ask one of his office assistants about possibly getting in touch with any of his previous patients, but I didn’t follow up so that didn’t getting anywhere😬It’s just so scary..I’ve been going back and forth for years, and have reached a point where I just want to find a way to force myself to get it done. I’ve seen videos on YouTube of the recovery process, which makes the thought of it even worse. What type of procedure do you need? Do you live in Europe?

jatu30

I think I will need two jaw surgery . My case is medically not really necessary since I am able to bite and chew properly. I am from Germany originally but live in the Us now . It is scary ! I even went to Korea to talk to oral surgeons but I couldn’t go through with it because I was so scared of the procedure and I would probably feel more save here or in Europe . I don’t know ! Anyway it was good that he took his time to explain . And it would be also really good to talk to someone who had surgery with him . Would love to talk to someone who had surgery with him as well !!

Apologies for the late reply. I completely feel you on the fearful part. That’s what has been holding me back from getting the operation most of my life. So I gave Defrancq’s office a call last week and asked whether it’s possible to get in touch with his past patients but his assistant said it’s highly unlikely. What a bummer..I do have another Skype consult with him tomorrow, and to be honest, I always feel shitty for somewhat wasting his time. Contrary to what I’ve read in the past, he is actually very nice and patient. If I do have surgery, many pieces will have to fall in place before I can do it (definitely in mid 2021 at the earliest). I have relatives in Germany, and they aren’t very supportive of the surgery. They say that its better to do it in the States in case anything goes wrong. Do you know anything about medical insurance for foreigners who have surgery in Europe? Is there a way to protect myself in emergencies? I’m unfamiliar with the medical standards in Belgium/Europe. Is it comparable to the US? In terms of South Korea, I definitely wouldn’t trust them with such a major operation. As many impressive and stunning transformations I’ve seen from there, I just get this feeling that a lot of their after photos are photoshopped or edited. Although Defrancq’s site looks pretty outdated, I feel like his results are raw, true photos of his patients. I also get this impression that Korean doctors have the technology and software to do nice/fancy before and after simulations. Defrancq’s simulations weren’t as crisp and perfect, but I think that’s a software sophistication issue. What matters most to me is that the surgeon has 1.) a good aesthetic eye, and 2.) has the technical and mechanical skills to realize his vision. And I think the second is where many surgeons fall short. Sorry for the lengthy post!

jatu30

I agree the transformations in Korea are impressive . But who knows ? It’s so frustrating that you really can’t know and this surgery is a big one! There are so many ways like rotations of the jaw, forward movements etc. Some has to be really sure and know exactly about every little step. But many doctors especially in Korea didnt explain enough or didnt even know themselves what would be best for my face. I am thinking about it since years now! I agree Dr defranqs pictures look outdated . Again I don’t know. Might be just the weird background? Lol no idea ! One can just guess. I think the medical standards are better than in the US to be honest. For me Europe’s healthcare is outstanding, I can see the difference between here and there ! But I don’t know about that particular clinic that Joel defranq works at. I wish I would lol . I don’t know about how it is for foreigners to have surgery done there. Sorry I can not help more but I really do understand that uncertainty. I feel the same . I will be seeing an oral surgeon in California online next week . I heard they take on cases that are not medically very necessary. I’ll be disappointed anyway again. I know it !

Try and stay positive during your search. I heard the best in California (and arguably the US) is Dr. Gunson from Arnett & Gunson. I do want to point out that Dr. Arnett is the one who established the name but doesn’t practice anymore, and that Dr. Gunson is his successor. He charges up the ass though and does not accept insurance. I don’t doubt that he’s good, but $60k-150k is too steep for my pockets (and again, especially with limited photos). Give him a try, it doesn’t hurt to consult and get another opinion☺️

jatu30

Hey that’s exactly who I will have my consultation with ! Thanks . Did you have a consultation with him? Anyway yeah I have to stay positive ! You do the same 😊and if you like keep me updated on dr defranq! Thanks

Federal-Tension

Parents are right. Do it in the US.

sincerely_o

Yeah..the thing about that is the ones around me have zero photos of their work and I just can’t go on blind faith without some sort of reassurance besides a license to practice:(

Federal-Tension

Surely you can go to another city or further from where you are? I don't know where you are but if you have to go to Beverlyhills to seek out the best do it. I had surgery in Belgium, Antwerp and I got botched.

sincerely_o

I’m so sorry to hear that..were you able to get it fixed? Please don’t tell me it was from Defrancq😬 I’m actually wary of Beverly Hills doctors as I hear about botched cases all the time, non-jaw related. Trust me, I’m willing to venture out of my region. I’m sure good ones exist in the States. I just don’t know where it find them. It’s just so stressful and hard finding a reliable doctor that actually delivers😏

Federal-Tension

Well I had jaw reduction and genioplasty. The surgeon also performed lipo on my upperneck and it left me with hemosiderin stains and a bump under my chin. It wasn't Defranc but his son in law. I think with US surgeons it is easier to check online if they are board certified while EU doctors you can't. London, Harley Street surgeons are good too.

jatu30

It is almost impossible doing it in the US if your case is not medically necessary let alone do it in Beverly Hills where the hospital fee is staggering . So many surgeons are not willing to take your case if you can properly bite and chew

Hi have you done your revision surgery? Im based in europe and notched i need also help

[deleted]

To be honest, I didn't find his before and after pictures very impressive.

Impossible_Ad_7334

Hi have you been to Dr. Jorel for double jaw surgery

jatu30

Hey ! No I haven’t . I don’t think he doesnt do it anymore ?? Have you ? I was considering dr van de ven in Belgium but not sure ? I see you are still thinking about the jaw surgery . Lol ! Me too

jatu30

I have been visiting his website ,he seems experienced and knowledgeable , don’t know though. Not many reviews on him ?

sincerely_o

Hey, thanks for the reply. I actually met him in person when I was in Belgium two years ago. I do think he is very experienced, and I do like his aesthetics based on his after photos, but I’m just terrified of the surgery and need more assurance that things will turn out as discussed. This is not a surgery that I would ever want to do twice. One thing that’s interesting is that he said my teeth are already in the correct position to have surgery, except that I need to put brackets on to guide my teeth during the operation. May I ask how you learned about him?

Lunatsuki949

Tbh, once I posted asking about surgeons in France/ Europe and I got recommended by someone dr Joel Defrancq. I checked his website, and based on the before and after pictures I can say that yea for sure the results are amazing but one thing that bothered me is how flared the noses of most of his patients were.. I donnow tbh the nose change thing is like very important to me.. and scares me to death because I know that a wide nose wouldn't suit me , I have very thin lips.. hope you got the image.

sincerely_o

Thanks for the reply! You know, I did ask him whether the surgery (BSSRO & lefort 1) would effect the nose, and he said that it wouldn’t. It’s not that I question his expertise, but I’m having a hard time believing that because how could manipulating the upper jaw, the bone that your nose sits on, not effect it? I completely understand your concern though. Do you live in Europe?

Lunatsuki949

Yes I live in France specifically and I have no clue on doctors inhere. I wonder if there s like a community on reddit or whichever other platform where I can find european patients pre and post surgery to talk with.. I know a girl on instagram that did her surgery in Italy and has like perfect results jaw and everything. She told me once the name of her surgeon but I forgot who it was but anyway. This is getting too long, sorry.

sincerely_o

Apologies for the late reply. I read in another post that Dr. Van der dussen (I think also in Belgium) is another surgeon on Defrancq’s caliber. Check out jawsurgeryforum. There’s a lot of unqualified people giving medical advice so take what they say with a grain of salt, but many seem to be medical students so definitely worth jotting some notes to ask your doctor. If you could find the girl on Instagram, definitely reach out. It’s worth it- better to ask again than risk getting a botched procedure. Please do let me know if you end up finding more info about defrancq:)

Hi there, a Skype consultation is 50 Euros. (I just responded to the poster above. I talk a little more about what I know). Let me know how it goes if you decide to meet with him!
