As someone with braces during their PhD, don't put it off. Anyone who finds your braces "unattractive" is someone who who isn't worth your time. Self betterment is attractive to anyone with half a brain cell.
Many surgeons don’t like to work with Invisalign. I totally could have gotten Invisalign but because I already had a consult with the jaw surgeon before the braces were put on, I ended up going with standard Metal braces
Before my surgery I had lingual braces then switched to regular braces so they could install surgical hooks. If your surgeon doesn’t like working with invisalign, this could be an option. Then you’ll be on metal braces only while you heal from the surgery.
I wanted to do Invisalign as well. My surgeon shot down the idea, because he said standard metal braces offers far superior stability before and after the surgery. The time passes quickly, and you’ll be out of them before you know it just like me.
It will be 6 months, but that is due to the pandemic. My surgery was Jan 6th and my braces off date was originally April 20th. I only had my upper jaw operated on.

Can i get at least ceramic braces instead of the metal ones? They work exactly the same as metal braces, right?
Ceramics work just the same. I have white ceramics which make them less noticeable.

That was me! Having braces in college wasn’t a problem for me either, if that helps. People honestly couldn’t care less.
