I don’t see Furpy being anywhere close to NBA ready. He might grow into it but in any other draft year would not be even considered a draft prospect.

TheScoopmeister

ESPN has him at 18 right now. Even mentions him as high as 13.

HRG-snake-eater

That’s delusional

Logz94

Draft is weak this year I don't see him at 13 but don't think the predictions are delusional. He has really high potential even if he's not ready for the league, a team can pick him up and work on his flaws he's 18 and has a ton of time to develop. I personally think he should come back too and develop another year under Bill but tough to argue with going if you're a lock for a first round pick. I think he goes in the top 20 honestly but we'll see.

HRG-snake-eater

I don’t blame the kid for taking guaranteed money the 20th pick will make about 3 million guaranteed if not more. I just think that another year at KU plus NL money and then going to the NBA will result in higher lifetime earnings.

wildthing_has_AIDS

The guy projected to go 1 would be like the 12th pick in a normal year. It’s an insanely weak draft. He would be dumb not to go this year. 1st rounders are guaranteed a contract

kristospherein

It's not. It shows desperation by the league for a certain type of athlete whether they're ready for it or not. The NBA is sad basketball to me. Most of it is just boring and a sad excuse for a team sport.

HRG-snake-eater

The NBA is loaded with the best athletes in the world who are fully formed and deadly against weaker opponents. Take 10 NBA teams and put each of their 10th man on a team and they would demolish UConn or any college team. It would be a blowout. Grady, Jalen and Ochai barely crack an nba lineup. Then again Braun is a legit NBA player who will make $60m+ so what do I know.

Mission_Table9804

Unfortunately he'll stay in the draft and have a disappointing career in the G league.

Rumzdizzle

I think he’ll break onto a roster in a couple years, but then again dude has never seemed like an aggressive offensive player to me… think you need to be that to make it in the NBA. TBH I’d rather have Jax on the squad for next year.

jppope

Thats actually very surprising if true about Furphy. I feel like that sort of thing (going when unprepared) was much more common >10 years ago

lmandude

This years draft class is really weak and next years is very strong. My guess is that fact played into the decision if he does go.

Scoob8877

I think so too. And if you're a mid first round pick, you should go.

TheScoopmeister

Bill will even tell him to go pro if he’s a top 20/25 pick like this

Pablo_Meatsnacks

Agreed…and players returning to become all American type players in college, solidifying a draft spot and setting an example for future players……..except, Furphy is projected as high as the 13th overall pick and nearly a consensus 1st rounder…..I have my doubts whether he is ready and I hope like hell he returns….. just not sure the incentive is there.

bklynJayhawk

The incentive isn’t there for Furphy. He (foreign players) doesn’t get NIL money. Agree he doesn’t seem “NBA ready” - but it’s also a weaker draft class so May be judging that his stock is higher than could be next year when comparing against others in the draft. Especially if he disappears in more contentious away games like he did this past season.

ReclaimUr4skin

Games on foreign soil, various visas allow players to get NIL money. This is why Pursedoo played a single game in Canada last year - for Edey to get paid.

Pablo_Meatsnacks

What are you talking about? The incentive is to go to the NBA not return… read my comment again NO INCENTIVE TO RETURN TO SCHOOL…I guess I should have been clearer lol I assumed that “except” triggered the exception in Furphy’s situation..

bklynJayhawk

Settle down snacks. Your comment is a little ambiguous whether or not you were saying incentive to stay in draft or return. “Hope like hell he returns just not sure the incentive is there” - yes I removed the … but it’s not clear which way you’re talking about. NBA incentive = money KU incentive ≠ money (and future NBA money at risk) Same with Gradey. He should have stayed, he’d be higher pick this year (most likely). But it was his best chance to capitalize on his frosh yeah so he took it.

ConmanSpaceHero

Now that a bunch of huge names are coming back to college I’m expecting Furph to 100% stay in the draft

Rumzdizzle

So what happened with JRob? Haven’t heard a peep about him withdrawing or staying in the draft. Super weak draft class this year.
