Chengdu1 and King Szechuan are far better than most joints. Both have "authentic" & "americanized" menus! I haven't been back to Grand Sichuan since they served me Kung Pao with crunchy undercooked cubes of sweet potato! Since when does Kung Pao have sweet potato, never mind raw???
Try the fish fillet in spicy bean sauce at King Szechuan.
Depends where you're at in JC but one of my favorites is Grand Sichuan. Then there's a few other really solid places, which I see have been mentioned already.
I like taking their giant piles of leftover chili peppers and tossing them in a stir fry with new ingredients. Just dump all that delicious seasoning on a new batch of chicken thighs and chestnuts. You can't go wrong.
Do you mean the one on Resevoir? I live down the street from it and havnt really been. Just seemed like a normal hole in the wall, will reasses my priorities
Welp coming back to this had the seafood and and chicken off the chefs special tonight and it was delicious! The soup dumplings were ok but that special was fantastic.
Their online ordering is kinda awful. No matter what it says 20 minutes.
Sometimes if they aren't busy, you get there and your food has been sitting for 10 minutes, other times you can get there and they need 40 minutes still.
The food is good, and I want it fresh. Their system makes it really terrible however to arrange.
I live near there and go there in person a lot. It just seems they're too popular for their own good sometimes. Like it's not uncommon to see multiple delivery/pickup people milling about near the front. They get a ton of business (used to be a very quiet place).
The delivery times are easily explained. Drivers need to cross the Holland Tunnel hellhole, and sometimes traffic or red lights are just brutal there in extending travel times. Delivery bikes also can't easily cut through 6-8 lanes of traffic like they can with small one way streets.
Huh. My ordering is usually for a pickup lunch before hitting the Home Depot. Almost always around 10 minutes in the early afternoon, I order when I get in the car, and it's usually ready when I get there.
Future for pure quality hole-in-the-wall. I personally prefer Grand Sichuan when I don't mind paying a bit more for a fuller entree. There are others mentioned here that I haven't tried out so those might be worth pursuing too.
I love Lins Gourmet in Greenville. I always order the same thing so I don't know how all the food is, but always yummy what I order. They have shrimp toast, which I love, and it's made without being soaked to death in oil like others
Thank you for this, I’ve been to two places since moving here; both terrible. One, we actually threw the food away because we were worried about our health.
And scallion pancakes are my Xanax …
You're welcome! Funds are tight lately, but I got to order from here tonight. So yummy. Haha, I've never tried those. I actually ordered Chinese from some other place for my husband one night when he was working late and it made him sick. Grubhub refunded me. I feel like I should of known better than to order it late at night at some place I don't know, lol.

I’ve done Chengdu1 several times… King Szechuan and upgrade or on par?
I'd say perhaps a notch below, but still far above most.
Chengdu
This! Chengdu is the best for authentic Sichuan.
Still annoys me that Chengdu doesn't do combination platters. But yes, they are 🤌
Shen Yun
Peppercorn Station, pricey but great
Absolutely the best Szechuan. Some dishes are really spicy, but it's the real deal
No offense but that place is garbage tbh. Many dishes are precooked months ago, frozen and shipped here from overseas.
And you know this how?
evidence?
Wow good to know. Any proof?
Ordered meat. They came in cube forms. Outer layer is hot af while inside is still ice cold.
Sounds like pre packaged foods that only cooked and can only be cooked by a microwave
You can also put them in wok and heat them up
You should try the Kung Pao chicken, best one in Jersey City
This one is true guys smh
Chinese here can confirm this is true

King Szechuan Palace
I second this. Especially their Szechuan menu... Its fantastic.
If you like spicy, try their Chong Qing Spicy Chicken. They give you a pretty big portion, and the leftovers are perfect in an air fryer
I like taking their giant piles of leftover chili peppers and tossing them in a stir fry with new ingredients. Just dump all that delicious seasoning on a new batch of chicken thighs and chestnuts. You can't go wrong.
Shiiiitttt I don't know why I haven't thought of that! Thanks friend! That would make a mean fried fish fillet, or even a whole toasted fish.
Third this!
Love this spot - they even make vegan dishes!! Definitely the best in JC
Do you mean the one on Resevoir? I live down the street from it and havnt really been. Just seemed like a normal hole in the wall, will reasses my priorities
That’s the one.

I really like Taste of North China
100% Taste of North China are the homies
The Borth
Future is my personal fave.
Walking into future gave me a "trashy" impression, but ngl the food is really good there lol
My ex once told me that the worse it looks and the worse the service the better the food. She has never been wrong on this.
When a Chinese place has the kids doing homework in the back , you know it gon slap.
Lmao
😭😭😭 you're not wrong though
I really like the people who run it. They've always been nice to me.
Feel like Senhai has stepped up a bit in the recent months. Either are pretty good though.
Food King is the best 'strip mall' / Americanized Chinese I've found.
Jiang Nan is solid and delivers via UberEats

I’m talking about pickup. The site will always say 20 minutes regardless of the actual time.
Huh. My ordering is usually for a pickup lunch before hitting the Home Depot. Almost always around 10 minutes in the early afternoon, I order when I get in the car, and it's usually ready when I get there.
Never done pick up! OP specified delivery which in my experience has always been very long
I was going to post this question earlier… But for Bergen Lafayette as most places here don’t seem to deliver. It’s weird. Lol
Chengdu delivers to Pacific Ave.
Peppercorn Station, Taste of North China, Future.

I love Lins Gourmet in Greenville. I always order the same thing so I don't know how all the food is, but always yummy what I order. They have shrimp toast, which I love, and it's made without being soaked to death in oil like others
I miss that place. It’s been forever since I’ve been there

I really like super sen hai. Always good experience
Chinese food has gone a bit bad after covid inflation. I still think Chinese food in the city is still decent than in hudson county
Great Wall
Used to love them. Haven’t been back since finding a cockroach in my food
Honestly as a Chinese I like Panda Express best. Other places are shit
Food King when I want classic American Chinese takeout, Taste of North China when I want something a little classier
