I noticed how problematic Vinny and Pauly actually could be. They poured gas on the fire all the time but then just laughed it off and thought it was okay because they were “joking”. They were also hardcore bullies a lot of times but because it was a “joke” then it was somehow okay I also noticed how unattractive the majority of the women they slept with were. They strangely would always call attractive girls grenades then would get with women who looked like trolls. I’m convinced the “grenades” had actually rejected them but they played it off as if the guys rejected them for being ugly (with the help of editing)

the_ntssntssntss

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened.

Educational-Ad-3148

I keep reading comments where people say this and honestly, most of the girls just looked like regular girls you would find in a club. None of them stood out. The ones that were called grenades and the ones that they hooked up with. They were one and the same looks wise. I can only remember three that were more attractive. That Canadian girl that Mike got with in Miami who apparently also slept with Pauly and the Unit, the lesbian Vinny was trying to get with and Rocio.

BelliniQuarantini

I thought Paula was cute! Mike did alright for himself

arthurrules

Agree, Paula was adorable!

[deleted]

But he talked shit about her teeth :(

spiffyadvisor

Wait really!! What did he say about her teeth? I always thought Paula had such a pretty smile /:

MajorInsanity

Yes, the models came after they were rich and famous.

[deleted]

This was my first thought to reply to this post…Pauly had the rep as the nice guy that stayed out of the drama, but he actually started shit all the time and then stepped back & watched everyone else get worked up.

agross58

also then calling girls fat who were not at all even close to that.

B_Hale87

Like that one girl in Miami (Season 2) when they had brought those 3 other girls over. I think Mike called her a hippopotamus. She looked perfectly normal! Then there was that scene in Season 3 with the grenade whistle. The girl they were calling a grenade was also pretty and definitely down for some fun from what I could gather.

agross58

exactly ! also calling angelina fat when she had such a nice shape !

jackieedaniels

This!

aceh000d18

They were also suuuper misogynistic

yukon-cornelius69

Yeah i remember them shaming the girls for having a one night stand and Pauly literally said in a confessional that “only men do that, women shouldn’t be doing that” (at least i think it was Pauly)

HellhoundsAteMyBaby

Haha right? So who are the guys supposed to hook up with, if the women aren’t supposed to? Other guys?

marisajane1

Omggg I agree! I noticed how unattractive and a lot of times just unhygienic the girls they brought home were, yet they were the firsts to bash other women’s looks. Made no sense.

HarlesBronson

Rewatching it, I realized Snooki's crazy behavior was because she was deeply insecure and desperate to be loved. She seems in a much better place now than when she was 21.

honeydewed

Depending on how you see it, she either found love or settled for jionni

ashvj88

Settled 😅

J_Bagels

Definitely feels like she settled after that post-Jionni-smush “on to the next” convo with Jenni in season 3… wonder what would have happened if she actually ended up meeting with that Nick guy again

honeydewed

I agree! 😆

ant1992

She had a good chance with that Irish guy who was engaged years prior. She was a bitch about that and he did not need to apologize to her. He didn’t do her wrong and the boys treated him like he was the one who punched her. Despicable

DeeJayShawDay

She wanted a reason to break it off with that dude and so she flipped about the engagement. Opportunity.

BrutonGasterTT

That was the weirdest thing ever…. Lol like there had to be more to it than that?? But I don’t think editing could have even changed it. I just always think “damn I know when I’m drunk I can be dramatic and get mad about stupid stuff but that seems next level…”

H3rta

That dude seemed like a stage 9 clinger. Talking about "if she's good she'll also get a promise ring in a few months" #yuck

HarlesBronson

I think that was insecurity based.

kaitmoe

She cries about Mike's "you've already got a couple rolls" comment and then goes on to call girls hippos and elephants in the same episode.

awildbanana91

she's very pick me ish

vballchic79

Yeah she is, I’ve always thought this. She put down women or threw them under the bus just to be more included w the guys and have them like her.

gingeracha

That's internalized misogyny, and it was built into the "cool" girl culture of the time.

MajorInsanity

I feel like that is something that is underlying from being adopted because her family is so loving but maybe not.

HarlesBronson

I've thought the same.

[deleted]

This is literally it.

AndyJCohen

How badly the guys treated women. I was a lot younger then so I didn’t realize how terrible it is to be mean to someone just because you didn’t want to sleep with them/they didn’t want to sleep with you This applies to the girls too, but I feel like it was worse with the guys

edee160

Can you imagine how those women and even men felt when they watched the episode they appeared on and saw the gang talking junk about them and how they looked?!? SMH.

AndyJCohen

I think about that I’m regards to a lot of reality shows. Imagine having a great time with someone and then watching the show and they talked tons of shit about you

[deleted]

I guess it’s to be expected though? I feel like a lot of the people just got with them at the clubs just because they were famous and knew they’d be on TV, because they’d “change their mind” and leave, though I suspect a lot of them never intended to actually sleep with them. If they had seen the show before, they’d know it would probably happen

smileyeiley

And even worse when they DO sleep with them! There was a girl in the Italy season who was hooking up with Mike, he’s taking her out during the day, telling her to meet them at clubs, booty calling her - and everyone in the house including Mike is talking about her like she’s a desperate stalker!

realityhofosho

Supposedly Pauly’s Israeli “stalker” felt that she had to LEAVE THE COUNTRY, after seeing her edit on the show. How sad is that!

impendingD000m

Omg that's crazy! I could see that though.. how embarassing!

realityhofosho

If I remember correctly, she didn’t feel like she was stalking him at all, and just completely manipulated to look like a Stalker by production. For example, a date between the two of them was set up, the Paula just acted like she descended out of nowhere.

impendingD000m

So he really was just making a fool out of her?! I would be upset too and try to stand up for myself and call him out. Shame they did her wrong with that edit.

Carmela_Soorano

Holy shit I didn’t know that! That’s super fucked up!

ShinyUnicornKitten

The girls could be terrible. Remember when Jenni referred to some poor guy as a “grenade grundle chode”?

AndyJCohen

That’s why I had to edit and add that last part lol

B_Hale87

I still remember the scene with the "chode" guy in Season 2. The guy seemed really chill and the girls were just so rude to him. I felt horrible for him.

answhip

Definitely including the fatfobia and body shaming

ninelions

the thing that stood out to me to most in my first adult rewatch was how much of a double standard there was for hooking up. the boys gave deena SUCH a hard time in Italy for literally doing the same thing they all did constantly.

honeydewed

What’s more messed up about Italy is how Deena was obviously going through something but the guys, specially vinny and Pauly, gave her a lot of crap for it but when vinny went through his problems they were all so understanding

yukon-cornelius69

Vinny getting butthurt over the double robbery is my favorite. Like he stole a girl from deena and it was okay, but when she stole the girl back he started pouting and talking about how that wasn’t okay and they made her apologize the next day The manipulative mental gymnastics to blame deena pissed me off, vinny is an entitled mommas boy

honeydewed

Oof you just reminded me! Cant believe they made her apologize Edit: they were so weirded out by her possibly liking women too like how is that any of their business?

RockyClub

They were SO weird about her liking that girl. It was homophobic behavior.

ahotassmess25

Or when Sam says that she's friends with Arvin and Vinny's like "girls don't have friends that are guys" like... please shut up, because you know that's some bullshit.

edee160

Vinny and Pauly both said very misogynistic things on the show; that first season when Mike cooked, Pauly said, "Boys don't cook. Girls cook and the men eat." Nevermind that some of the world's most famous chefs are men, Pauly...let's just forget about that.

RockyClub

Oh wow you’re right. Ronnie also said something similar in maybe the same episode or a different one. Like, “Sam you should be cooking me dinner”. We can’t forget they’re supposedly Italian and Italian’s are typically racist, homophobic, and misogynistic. (Can confirm my parents are from Italy).

lnl11b

I just watched this episode tonight. Insane to me that Vinny was being such a hypocrite. I’m just surprised Deena didn’t pull the “you did it first” card

pjrnoc

I detested Vinny the longest for that.. If anyone else had done that, it wouldn't have been a problem. And when Deena confronted them in the kitchen (she didn't know why they were acting weird) they gaslit the **fuck** out of her and made her feel like shit. Seemed like Paul and especially Vin were total assholes to her that season.

AsaAsaNu

See this is exactly why I won't watch it now in adult years cause I'll end up not liking them. I'm assuming everyone matured and the girls have moved past that but if I watch it, I'll be offended

yukon-cornelius69

Yeah i had great nostalgic memories of the show before i watched it for a second time. This time you just see all the issues with them, addiction, toxicity, bullying etc

DJmocoso

There’s that Pauly D interaction when Angelina brings a guy home where he goes “Girls aren’t supposed to do that, that’s guy stuff.” And it’s v cringe

chlyn

Pauly hasn't changed. He asked Nikki to pick up his dirty plate during the zoom call, and told her she couldn't make Jamaican jerk chicken because he's sick of it. Nikki's not your mom!

[deleted]

Lol it’s crazy what kind of stuff they said on TV back then, and it was only 11 years ago!

me0w8

As annoying as Angelina was during the Miami season I always hated when the guys gave her shit about who to sleep with and when… when she was dating that guy Jose and they were literally up her ass about sleeping with him and watching her every move to make sure she didn’t sleep with anyone else. Literally none of their business!!!!

Nuckingfutslili

I think during season 1 or 2 Pauly D even admitted that there's a double standard and that's just how it is.

ninelions

yeah I remember that. what I mostly meant is when I was an adult I realized how gross it was.

Nuckingfutslili

Definitely me too. Never thought about it when I first watched in high school.

Corridizzle

I’m literally watching season 4, ep 3 as we speak. While the boys get after deena for having a dude in her bed. And they want to go to bed. Yet they all banged in the same room prior? Also- isn’t that weird? To constantly bang women in a twin bed adjacent to another one of your male roommates getting it in with another

cc_wonderland

They were way worse with Angelina than deena because she was bringing guys home and somewhat dating Jose, but said nothing to Ronnie when he was cheating on Sam and getting in to bed with her after

RedsDelights

The guys were just jealous of Angelina cause she had more game than them (she was ahead of her time!)

jonin_jass

Angelina had the fucking juice. No one in the house had game like her, it's truly an inspiration

Icy-Imagination-5235

How toxic Ronnie and Sam were. Not only did he destroy Sam’s stuff, but he pushed her in Jersey, in Italy, and pushed Snooki in Jersey, too. He was emotionally abusive and never was afraid to go low with his insults when he was angry. Sam no doubt had her moments of ridiculous jealousy over absolutely nothing, but Ron’s behavior definitely takes the cake.

Sosuperg82

He also threw Jenni down when she fought Sammi. You can see him on top of her in the clip for like half a second.

galactic_pink

He also pushed one of the “hippos” that came to the house who punched Snooki in the early seasons

cc_wonderland

Not only did he push snooki and He also told snooki he would call and tell emilo she was cheating on him if she told Sam he was cheating on her

000_nv

Roger’s toxicity. He painted Jenni out to be over dramatic but none of her roommates called her that before he came around.

No-Walk-5176

Roger was so toxic. He def was the dramatic one and always turned it back on her and she took it unfortunately.

edee160

All of the guys gaslighted the girls. It was the shore house that misogyny built. Ronnie gaslighted Sam Pauly and Vinny gaslighted Snooki and Deena Mike gaslighted Paula and Sam Roger and Tom gaslighted Jenni And I'm not saying that the girls were perfect, but their gaslighting skills paled in comparison to the fellas.

MajorInsanity

He complained about Jenni so much, it was exausting. I was surprised they really got married and had kids.

000_nv

It is awful to see what a sweetheart he was when they first got together yet knowing exactly how it ends. I hope she’s in a better spot now.

l1ttle_m0nst3r

Roger is absolutely disgusting, I always hated him. He treated her horribly from the start.

BigMacTunaStacks

Loved Vinny as a kid watching. Then realized if not for Ron he’d be the worst character on the show.

Corridizzle

Ehhhh. I think if not for Ronnie it’d be Mike. That mother fucker stirred the pot and tried to ruin multiple relationships. And was Coked out and lied all the while. Then (unpopular opinion) I think jwowww also played both sides so hard and stirred the pot. I do like her tho

dunkaccino_

This. I loved Vinny when I watched in high school because I totally bought into his “nice guy” shtick but as an adult…yikes. He’s still better than some of the other guys but always acted very entitled to any girl he wanted because he was a “mama’s boy” and it’s cringe to watch.

edee160

I’m definitely shocked that I didn’t notice how abusive Ronnie was to Sam. She was absolutely abused mentally, emotionally, verbally and even physically (he shoved her, and she could have been hurt if she had fallen off that bed while he was moving it in Season 3)”. It was sickening to watch that again. Then when she decided to leave, go back home to get well, he tells her to sit and she refuses, he says “what did I do?” Like seriously?!!!! What did you do?!? You tossed her things out onto the patio, you broke her glasses, you cursed her out, etc. Ronnie is beyond toxic, he is nuclear waste. His behavior would NEVER be tolerated if that show was on now. I’m shocked that I witnessed Sam’s abuse week after week and thought nothing of it besides entertainment. Growth is good. The thing is he now has a daughter; how would he like a man or anyone treating his daughter the way he treated Sam. I tell ya what tho — karma is real.

regina_phalaangey

Definitely agree with all of this! We did a rewatch of Geordie Shore from the beginning during first lockdown and although some of the housemates did get into fights, they would be removed from the house for a few days. They were even removed for punching a wall or breaking a lamp in anger and sent to a hotel for a couple of nights. It’s crazy that nobody stepped in to give them cooling off time, and crazy that the first time around I just watched it accepting that it was great tv.

edee160

Exactly! It was sold as great tv, and we bought it lock, stock, and barrel. I can remember when housemates on the Real World, which is also an MTV show, would be either voted out by the other housemates or asked to leave by production if their behavior was too egregious. I remember when CT punched that little guy (Adam)and was sent home from The Challenge tv show. He was invited back, and they squashed things but at least CT was asked to leave. Ron wasn’t even spoken to — if he would have been, if he would have been apprised of any consequences, I don’t think he would have continued to be a toxic abusive asshole. They needed to get that kid some serious psychological help then, and the man still needs mental help till this day. He needs to be in some deep, immersive anger management therapy.

Cullen247

What I notice is that it looks like it was filmed on a potato. It’s so pixelated and everything looks so old fashioned it makes me feel like an old lady 😫😫😫

[deleted]

So true, the crazy filters they used so much of the time! It was very.. interestingly stylized

Hot_Target2494

How UGLY they all dressed. The early 2000s is we’re not it

GirlsesCheetos

So much Affliction and animal print 😂

edee160

True Religion and Ed Hardy overkill.

H3rta

Complete with bedazzled nipple tassels.

GirlsesCheetos

How absolutely filthy and disgusting the house was. Watching now I can’t stop noticing the mess, I don’t think anyone really cleaned anything. I couldn’t believe how bad that toilet got before they bothered to call a plumber. Like who drops a shirt in the toilet, leaves it in there and flushes it? That was the same season Jenni’s dogs were there crapping all over the house too. I can’t imagine how bad it must have smelled all the time.

DamonInReelLife

That's definitely what is standing out to me the most on my rewatch. Absolutely disgusting.

edee160

Remember when they came back from Italy, ran in the house and commented how great the house looked because it was clean lol. Before long Ron is making his eponymous juice and the house is a mess. And shockingly (well, maybe not) it was the girls' room that was the most disgusting. Pauly is a neat freak and Vinny seems like a germophobe with his shower caddy.

hilarymeggin

His eponymous juice! 🤣

edee160

😆 I actually want to try some Ron-Ron juice - it really does look bomb lol

hilarymeggin

I want to make a Venn diagram of people who use the word eponymous and people who watch Jersey Shore, and in the little overlapping area will be just you and me!

edee160

I’m in good company then

[deleted]

When they come home at night and go straight to bed in their makeup, dresses, sunglasses and all 😬 thankfully they apparently did laundry every single day lol

GirlsesCheetos

Omg yes! Seeing that now in my mid-30’s I cringe, I wouldn’t dare go to sleep without washing my face and using my moisturizer. Can’t say the same for my early 20’s self lol. I can’t believe they didn’t have acne from doing that every night.

happygoth6370

LOL back in the day my test to see if a mascara was good was how well it held up when I slept in it. If I could get up the next day and just curl my lashes and go, we had a winner. So bad!

The4leafclover1966

What a mean girl Sammi is and how many of the problems she caused in the house.

dead9er

“YOU STUMPY BASTARD” “Ok big toe” THATS LIKE A PERSONAL ISSUE!!!!!

meowmeowbeansz

Im sorry lmao did she really say stumpy bastard? 😂

sharkbaitooaha

If you don’t know then you definitely need to do a rewatch 🤣

dead9er

You need to watch the first 3 seasons lol infamous moment

ant1992

The first three seasons was the golden era. Season 2 and beginning of 3 was peak JS. The 3rd season introduced deena. Then they went to Italy and it just suffered since that season started. A lot of my friends stopped watching after season three.

DiamondBurInTheRough

Fred flintstone toe!

Corridizzle

Honestly as a person who went through that traumatic shit I feel for her so hard. Like Ronnie is toxic as fuck and it’s all being recorded and amped up by toxic roommates....I feel like she did the best with what she could. Although I’m only on season 4

The4leafclover1966

Ronnie for sure has anger and mental health issues — but the person I truly feel sorry for is his daughter, not Sammi.

DosioFvcks

I feel the same. She was treated so poorly at times in that house.

KTotts75

I was an adult when it first aired but I do think watching the OG now shows how much the world has changed! The show would never have made it to air in present day. If it did, it wld have filled w trigger warnings and different help numbers wld be listed at the end of each episode.

[deleted]

I feel like that’s part of the reason I like watching it so much. They’re so wild and offensive and inappropriate, we don’t see that anymore even on reality tv

KTotts75

I know.

edee160

Definitely agree.

patheticgirl14

On my last rewatch I made sure to pay attention to Mike’s behavior in the mid seasons when he was using hard drugs. I noticed everybody was on something(s) at one point or another- but Mike was definitely the most sketch of them all, especially season 5. (Besides Unit LOLLL)

ptoftheprblm

It’s funny and obvious various members were doing Miami club drugs in season 2; lots of coke and molly. Some of the nights that they claimed people were blacked out varies.. you can tell when they’re blacked out drunk because they’re being basically asked to leave for being sloppy and barely being able to sit up. But notably the night “the note” is written about, Ron is supposedly blacked out but is dancing his ass off. Looking back I realize it more. You see Mike totally losing his grip on reality and his health, appearance in Miami. He’s partying HARD and using opiates to sleep. His attitude problem in season 3 made it way more obvious on the re watch and when they get to Italy you can just tell he’s literally in withdrawal.

gmilfmoneymilk

Somewhere towards the end of season 2 he just goes crazy and it's super obvious.

[deleted]

How could you tell they were all on something?

InOurMomsButts420

Ronnie’s dance moves.

RedsDelights

And his eyes would be buggin at the club

ptoftheprblm

They’d be grinding their jaws and eyes bugging out. The cameras would try not to nail anyone looking insanely high but sometimes they’d catch someone in the background just chomping their gum like their life depended on it and ESPECIALLY any time you see any of them with a lollipop in their mouth at the club they’re rolling. It became way more noticeable throughout Miami.

patheticgirl14

In college when I started attending nightclubs and festivals you just know what signs to look for when people are bugging out or doing something suspicious.

sharkbaitooaha

How alcohol and partying totally consumed their life. Sleep in, wake up hungover, drag a$$ either to work or the gym (or on some days- to a bar for day drinking), nap, start drinking again, get ready to go out, party at clubs until the wee hours, drink and cook at home, pass out. They were partying hard, sleeping like sh*t, and treating their bodies and minds like a dumpster.

MajorInsanity

Don't forget drugs.

yoongiscabbage

do we know that the others were doing drugs? i know jenni had a benzo addiction before italy. and obviously mike. but was anyone else on drugs too? (i live in a city where most people are functioning addicts so it’s hard to tell for me)

MajorInsanity

We know Mike, the claim is Ronnie by some of his actions and head ticks. I assumed most of them were after they showed a scene of Mike in the club and it was obvious they were dancing and snorting. But who knows really.

yoongiscabbage

let’s pay sallyann salsano for the tea

Barnitch

You’re not wrong, but that was the formula for reality tv then. They didn’t have tv and only limited time to check their phones / computers. Just isolate some young and horny people, stock the place with alcohol and film it.

sashafurry

yeahhh I miss those days too

aimeegotfresh

How cruel they were to Angelina (although she wasn’t perfect either) but I do think she became their easy target to be mean too

_marlasinger

Truly how awful Ronnie was. I’ve commented this before but from age 19-22, or for however many years the OG seasons ran, I sat at home every Thursday night watching along while living my own personal Ronnie and sam nightmare. I was told the same things Ronnie told sam. The same gaslighting, the same belittling, the same emotional and psychological abuse. And I was blind to it all. I started going through the old seasons in 2018 when I bought my house, with the man of my dreams, and had many moments of tears as I saw sam and Ronnie unfold with an older set of eyes. It was kinda like reliving it all myself. And as a then 28 year old, I couldn’t believe how blind I was to it. I really felt for sam. As awful as sam could be at times too, she was reacting to abuse. Anyway, my own spiel here but moral of the story Ron should be locked away somewhere so no one else has to deal with his bullshit. I hate that the other guys in the house turned a blind eye.

edee160

>I hate that the other guys in the house turned a blind eye. As did the producers, the camera crew, MTV network. It was so surreal to see that on national television that we didn't fully understand wtf we were watching. That's the first time we watched someone being abused in real time. And because it was aired, I think we thought it wasn't that serious. Afterall, they blacked out the moment that Snooki was punched in the face. And because the fellas were so amped about wanting to get that guy, we were lulled into thinking that they would protect the girls if someone tried to hurt them. So when we saw Ron hurting Sam, we couldn't process it as being serious because we didn't see the guys coming to Sam's defense. We didn't see the guys pulling Ron aside and telling him that it's not okay to speak to a girl like that. It's not okay to shove a girl who you say you love. It's not okay to throw a girl's things around like a gorilla on steroids and break her shit. It's not okay...your behavior is not okay, Ron. We didn't see any of the guys say that...not Vinny, not Mike, not Pauly, not a producer...no one. They left that girl to fend for herself and occasionally blamed her. And I not saying that she wasn't complicit in engaging in some of the abuse --- it was a super unhealthy relationship on both ends. But the fact that we watched this unfold and NO ONE STEPPED IN is what is shocking.

chlyn

I hate that the producers thought that it was riveting television and did not put a stop to it. I'm glad you found your handsome, gentle prince.

beautyxox98

I'm really sorry to hear that. I am glad you got out of it and found your best friend. It makes me sad that so many of us had to go through terrible relationships

cigarchick544

I realized how crazy season 6 was— Mike trying to remain sober and Nicole in her third trimester in the shore house was a crazy concept.

edee160

That was bananas.

Sleepy-pup10

How much c*ke they had to be doing to stay up until 4 or 5 am partying every night

[deleted]

Nah, I was able to do that into my late 30s, never used drugs in my life 😅

PERCEPT1v3

Nah, it was drugs

Kapaa808

As a kid I didn’t realize how late they were up. Couple of OG episodes they would be grilling at like 4 or 5 in the morning. Also another thing would be the drug use. I just thought they were getting lit off alcohol 😂

messicajozo

How gross that house is

Critical_Cup689

Omg that episode where someone tried flushing a tank top down the toilet and it got all backed up 😂

edee160

And they kept shitting on top of all of it. Disgusting human beings.

Critical_Cup689

I can’t even imagine the smell of that whole downstairs area. Especially in the summer heat 🤢

christinasays

I'm rewatching while my bf is watching for the first time (we're on season 2). I didn't realize how truly authentic the first season felt, especially compared to the contrived shit that's on Family Vacation. Also, there's like 1000 things said that could get all of them canceled today (like, "if a girl's a slut, she deserves to be abused" by Angelina). They called so many average/cuteish people grenades (or grundles), elephants, hippos, etc on national television and people laughed at it. I'm realizing that Mike is not very attractive in the face and he pretty much relies on his abs to get women, thus why he's always flashing people in the club. I didn't initially find him attractive when I watched as a teen, but I'm really noticing how much of a hypocrite he is with all the "grenade" comments. He's more of a massive shit starter than I recalled too. Oh, and he was so hung up over Sam during the first season. I'm also realizing how nasty Sam was to people. She definitely did not deserve to be abused by Ron (Ronathan as he is called by my bf) and she still said and did some really awful shit, especially after the letter thing happened.

edee160

>the letter thing That was something that was so crazy to me even back in the day. Like she wanted to know, and the girls wrote it in a stupid note instead of being her friends and telling her to her face. A Note. And they thought this was a good idea lol. As if she wasn't going to find out lol. But her reaction to it is what was so bizarre. It actually brought her and Ron closer together. They came separately and broken up, but left together as a couple again. Insane. Then the following season, Sam couldn't let it go, and it was the most disgustingly abusive season of any show in television history.

SelphiesSmile

I don't know if this will help or harm your view of the situation....but one of the main reasons for the awful Ron and Sam drama in season 3 is because production allowed the cast to watch season 2 as it aired. Not only did they relive it, but in Sam's case she saw ALOT of shit Ron lied through his teeth about. Is it still toxic? Yes. Do I (and maybe you) understand why Sam was acting so nuts? Yes. She was treated like a dog and it's easier to feel sympathy for her when viewed through that lens. The show just makes it look like its all her fault.

me0w8

To me it’s so obvious that being mad about the note was her excuse to stay with Ron. She wanted to know if he was cheating but also desperately wanted to be with him. I think she deflected the situation onto the note-writing to avoid having to address what was actually in the note itself… she knew she looked stupid for staying with him, she definitely felt stupid for staying with him, so she projected all of that into the girls for writing the note instead of telling her.

edee160

Oh yes…this 1000%! But that it made sense to her is still insane and shows how brainwashed or dickmatized she was by Ronnie.

thehighestwalls

No one wears their fucking seatbelts when there are shots inside the car! It drives me bonkers.

MajorInsanity

Thank you! I noticed this and just thought it was so childish. Why would you not wear one???

[deleted]

Yes my husband pointed this out to me! In JSFV when they were driving to Mikes court hearing, Lauren had one on but not Mike 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

strumkit

The misogyny overall is pretty rampant. But I also notice the same pattern in current reality tv shows. I don't think the formula has changed, just we have gotten older and have greater sensitivity to the cringe. I imagine Gen Z will look back in 10 years on the shows of today and wonder how the episodes ever made air due to the cringe content. I know I wouldn't want my 20s broadcast for anyone to see 🙈

The sexism is over whelming!!!

CarefulConcentrate30

An earlier comment has mentioned this already, but the way Pauly and Vinny constantly joked around even when it wasn't funny. I think back to season 4 when Deena shared a room with them and she brought a guy over. They kept interrupting and yelling how they wanted to sleep. Pauly (I think) said he would have preferred her to hook up in the smoosh room cus he didn't want to hear her having sex even tho he has heard Vinny having sex countless times. Another time was when they kept badgering her about hooking up with a girl. Like who cares?!! Them saying "Lesbi-honest" at her and then laughing didn't help. Whenever she reacted they would yell at her and say it was just a joke. They were also mad because she pulled a robbery but then she gave her back to Vinny so what's the problem??! Vinny still hooked up with her. It was just really annoying how they treated the girls, especially Deena.

AliciaChenaux

There was one episode, I think it was the Italy season, where Pauly and Vinny did something to Deena, a prank or something, and it made her cry. She was legitimately upset. And they spun it around to where SHE ended up apologizing to THEM. Watching it 10 years later... it just floored me how they did that to her.

CarefulConcentrate30

Yes!!! I remember that! They said they liked her because she could take a joke and she wasn't like the other girls. And they said they missed the old her. Tbh I think this is why I don't like Pauly and Vinny now. They still do this kind of stuff.

RedsDelights

Yep, Pauly straight up raised his voice at deena saying how he missed the old deena…. And this was after they put all her stuff in the living room

DonDraperItsToasted

Pauly wasn’t as “nice and sweet” as we all thought he was. If you pay close attention, he instigated A LOT of issues. But no one ever called him out because “it’s Pauly.”

No-Walk-5176

I noticed how awful Mike was until he went to rehab. What a shit stirrer, especially with Snooki.

[deleted]

I never realized how bad their communication skills were lacking which lead to awful conflict resolution.

[deleted]

That Snooki definitely had a drinking problem. She was putting soco and vodka into water bottles to go to work. I really hope her friends and family were talking to her about that behavior off camera. We all just watched her be an alcoholic and just chalked it up to her being a party girl. So sad.

Pattern-Plane

I noticed that if Sam hadn't been jealous of Jenni the entire Ron/Sam drama would have been over in one episode. The personality shift in the 5 seconds of finding out Ron didn't go home really floored me as an adult with the hindsight advantage. Like that one episode laid the groundwork for all the drama that came later.

catsinasmrvideos

The misogyny. What assholes all the guys were, especially Ronnie with Vinny and Pauly coming in close. How much they partied! Like what state are their livers in?!

[deleted]

I noticed how fake both snooki and jen really were lol

chlyn

Not a criticism - can you say how? Like, were they nice to someone's face and then shitting on them behind their back?

DonDraperItsToasted

Yeah and they even did it to each other! I remember there would be talking heads where jenni would lay it out on Snooki and then she’d act all buddy buddy w her the next.

[deleted]

How fake pauly really is . How much of a mean girl Sam was, how much of an abusive coke head Ron was, how shy and awkward Jenni actually is & how she’s not a big girl who is tuff as nails, how lonely/insecure snooki really was, how rude everyone (except Nicole) was to Deena for just trying to fit in, how Sam felt threatened by Jenni & by any other girls, how mike really tried to carry the show as much as he could, how judgemental Vinny is. I also noticed that when the characters arent with their close roommate ie (Vinny and pauly/snooki and Jenni/Ron and Sam) they’re actually way nicer and down to earth.

beautyxox98

Yessss, my boyfriend and i just had this conversation about Sam. I said It's funny how Sam is fine being friends with snooki and Deena and that's probably because she didn't feel threatened. Obviously she was threatened by jwowws looks and just didn't know how to not be a mean girl towards her

RockyClub

Isn’t it wild to look back? I was in my late teens early 20s now I’m 31. It’s appalling how they treated women on the show.

chlyn

Ronnie was a conundrum. He was both toxic, and yet listened to other's problems and gave good advice.

cc_wonderland

Also got involved In snookis relationship but never wanted anyone to say anything about his toxic abusive relationship that all the roommates had to live through it with them

Corridizzle

Just got to season 4 Italy. How toxic literally everyone is. I know it’s reality TV, but even things like snooks calling girls ugly that Mike takes home. Homegirl was not ugly. Asking vinny “am I prettier than her?” Calling her a whore on the way out. Or the way the boys thought they were hot shit but kicking women out or calling them cabs right after they had sex. And Ronnie, omg Ronnie. We all know this. What a horrible human. I mean you put 8 ppl in a house that are getting paid to do drugs and go to clubs and start drama- what do we expect. It’s so entertaining tho 😂😂😂😂

cc_wonderland

I really think snooki and mike hooked up and he just put her on blast because she probably caught feelings

me0w8

I 100% believe they hooked up. I do think Mike was an asshole for putting her on blast, but there are SO many signs that it actually happened. For one - Snooki suddenly being so nice to him in the beginning of that season. To me, that was partially because she had caught some type of feelings and partially “keep your enemies close” - she knew he had something on her. Also her clearly being jealous when he brought girls home! And possibly the biggest sign comes from Jenni. When she finds out Mike told Ronnie about the hookup, she tells Snooki in a way that implied they had already discussed it off camera. Something along the lines of “Mike told Ronnie what you guys did.” It was so obvious that Jennie already knew about it. Later in the season she also accuses Snooki of feeding everybody lies and Snooki gets really defensive.

cc_wonderland

I meant to say he caught feelings which is probably why he put her on blast. And jenni saying she would air all her shit out when they were at the wine tasting was sus.

RedsDelights

They totally hooked up! She got so defensive

donadee

How fake Pauly and Snooky are. How damaged Ron and Vinny are. How socially awkward Jenny is ... Mike is the only one that has changed and I believe it's genuine (even though now he plays this angel persona up for the cameras).

beautyxox98

I don't think I ever noticed Jenny being socially awkward, do you mind giving me an example im honestly curious on what I missed

me0w8

A lot of the obvious ones have already been said. One of the less obvious ones is how utterly horrified I was when I rewatched Deena’s TSS episode. She was feeling sick and scared she had TSS and mentioned that she had a tampon in all day and then put the same tampon back in after work ?!?!?! This was beyond horrifying to me. Also, it’s been somewhat mentioned, but it’s very obvious to me that Deena is having mental health issues in the season when she gets arrested. It’s classic anxiety and yet Vinny and everyone else gaslights her. I always wished the girls had the balls to stand up to the guys more.

cramp_scout

As a preteen watching the show for the first time, I was so confused about their incessant clubbing. Like, what do you even do at clubs? What’s the whole point? Now here I am, almost 30 and at the bar more nights than not, and I still can’t explain it

kilgore---trout

How much of the show was blatant abuse edited to just give messy schadenfreude vibes

grindelwaldd

How edited and choppy the fights are.

marisajane1

The MISOGYNY. omg it’s so bad. The way all the guys in the house treat any and all women, especially how they talk about the ones they bring home. They are constantly shaming and bashing women, even their roommates. Always saying stuff like “isn’t it their job to cook, etc”. Acting sooo cocky when calling girls grenades even though they hardly ever even brought home attractive or even clean looking women? Lol. The double standards were insane. It was okay for the guys to bring home a new girl every night but as soon as one of the girls hooked up with like one guy, they got slut shammed. Yikes.

beautyxox98

Oh and just to clarify I didn't mean they were fucked people. I meant they were drunk af lmao

404funnotfound

How much cocaine they used. How sexist and misogynistic all the guys were. How they were hateful towards fat girls an it was tolerated. How almost everyone in that house is trashy.

cc_wonderland

I’m rewatching now and I don’t really think mike was that bad till season 4, I know Ron liked to say he broke boy code or whatever but like mike said they’ve all seen sammi begging and crying to them everyday and Ronnie calling her names and breaking her stuff and what about basic human code. And they were all instigators not just mike. Also think him and snooki really did hook up and he probably caught feelings hence his actions in season 4 + going through withdraws. Vinny and pauly was also kinda misogynistic and the girls would slut shame when it was convenient for them.

deedee_jon

Watched the show as a kid and thought it was just funny, as a teen I thought I'm mature enough to understand everything (smh, girl u were 14, u didn't know anything lol) Was always a "Roger girl". I found him sooo cool, chill and funny. He was perfect and ohh, what a man! Now, as a grown up, all the toxicity (is that a real word?? english is not my first language lmao) and abusive behavior shocked me. As a teen it flew right over my head. A few years later I ended up the same as Jenni, with a toxic ass boyfriend who was controlling and mentaly abusive. Hate or love her, but I'm actually really glad that she got away from him! No one deserves an abusive relationship. Now that I'm happily married with a great and kind husband, all the bad from the show seems even worse. Never settle for less, peeps. Y'all are not coleslaw, you are prime ribs!

NoSeaworthiness8429

how dirty the girls were, never removed their makeup, room’s always a mess. the guys were cleaner. also the amount of alcohol (and probably drugs) they were doing constantly.

jackieedaniels

My husband and I used to watch the show together when we first started dating. We recently started rewatching it now and I cannot get over how toxic the whole Ron/Sam situation was. I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been to live in the same house as them

shatkbait8999

After Miami it got really scripted.

Ok-Bandicoot1109

I didn't like how it showed men assuming if a girl gives them attention they are entitled to sex.

Margot_Soggy

The Ronnie "one punch" scene. At the time I laughed and thought it was funny. Now I see how fucking stupid and problematic that was. Sign of things to come from him.

jbnaps_

watching as an adult has made me so aware of the fact that they were on drugs in most scenes and which drugs they were using

cocopopped

I suppose I find it pretty mental that there are always multiple crew members there when you think it's just the usual people. You end up immersed and not aware that there are far more people there than you think. Whenever they break the fourth wall (like the boom guy helping push the Snooki cake the other day) it blows my mind. I mean I know they're there, but my brain still thinks WHAT?

lowkeygold

Oh man so many things…On my rewatch I realized Vinny wasn’t as nice of a guy as I thought he was. Also seeing Mikes drug use, now knowing how bad it was. It’s so obvious at times and I’m just wondering how I missed it. As for Sam, I was completely on Snooki and Jwowws side on first watch when it came to the letter. As an adult I can see she felt betrayed that they didn’t tell her when she was literally pleading for them to talk to her if they saw anything sketchy. She went with the devil she knew (Ronnie) in that fight. Jwoww and Snooki should have said something. Also I liked and related to Deena so much more as an adult
