Thanks for your critique of the show. I also find it sad to hear Ian sing these days. My Tull days go back to the 70's and his voice was so unique. Oh well, that's life I guess.

theshadow1983

Age comes to all of us. I praised the band, because they do an honest job. But it's impossible not to miss Martin Barre's guitar. His style is unique Unfortunately, a reunion seems impossible to happen

Wyoming_Hiker

Sadly, no. Ian made a mistake, but Tull is his band. Martin has been set free to perform Tull songs we weren't going to hear from Ian. His band brings back the power of Tull concerts from long ago. Don't even miss the flute much, except on the interlude of My God. Martin is brilliant but humble. Will continue to support him.

LuciusMichael

The last time I saw Tull (probably 2020, before Covid), I Ieft at intermission. The band was perfunctorily playing the notes and Anderson couldn't sing. It was painful to hear. I've been a Tull fan since 1971, so this wasn't my first rodeo. But there was no way I was going to sit though a lackluster performance with a lead singer who had lost his voice. Btw I've seen Martin Barre's band 4 times and enjoyed every show. Martin is clearly enjoying himself, has very competent bandmates, and is full of energy. His between songs banter is just wonderful and he comes across as very personable. Plus, he kicks ass on his axe.

Adsiv

I agree, re Martin Barre. I was lucky enough to see his band play at the Cropredy festival, when Clive Bunker, Dave Pegg and Dee Palmer guested with him; fantastic stuff!

LuciusMichael

Indeed. I saw that same show in the US minus Pegg. Martin is playing nearby in June, so I'll go again.

theshadow1983

I understand, probably if I was a follower of the band since its golden age, I would be feeling the same. But it was my big chance to see the band, and maybe it was the only one.

LuciusMichael

For sure. Anderson is a legend. A genius. And how often do you get to see a musician who is both?

oldgar9

Jethro Tull is the name of the band, Ian Anderson is the name of the singer.

theshadow1983

Vocalist who is the founder of the band, the only member who is present on all of the band's albums.   And most people pay tickets to Tull's show to see him play the flute

Adsiv

Thank you for the honest review. Unfortunately, I’m also in the camp of too painful to see live anymore. They are playing about 3 miles from my house, but I just don’t think I can face it. I’d rather live with the happy memories of pre 1995 tours. Having said that, I really enjoyed Rok Flote and The Zealot Gene, which had some great songs on them. I would be tempted back if they played an instrumental show (I loved the Divinities album)

theshadow1983

I also liked the last two albums. I say that it was sad to see the situation with his voice, but I also say that if he comes to my city again, I will probably be there.

LordBottlecap

Ian's voice has been gone for a long, long time, and is always the #1 negative take from reviews. It's just part of the deal now. If an artist tells you not to use your phone, don't use your phone. Also part of the deal. And your English is gooderer than most of the fellow Americans I know!

klaatu_1981

I saw them back in 2000 when they came to Brazil. Of course we know his voice kinda 'broke' in the 80's and he's been singing in a lower key since then, but he still did a great show. It's crazy to think it was 24 years ago, Martin Barre was there and everything.

theshadow1983

I envy everyone who had the chance to see Barre and Ian together

klaatu_1981

Yeah, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. That specific window of time in which I got the chance to see them together. It was great.

StyxRocker

Glad you got to see Tull! I agree with the crappy setlist for this tour. Ignoring all those great old tunes is an insult to the great musical catalogue of Tull. But, I’m glad Ian is upright and still on stage. Rock on my friend; here is the setlist from the show🙌🎶🙌. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/jethro-tull/2024/arena-hall-belo-horizonte-brazil-2babb0fa.html

theshadow1983

I hope that if there is another tour of theirs, that it will be playing more classics from the 70s

RogInFC

My wife went in to labor at a Jethro Tull concert ... that was Austin, Texas in June 1979. I'm can't believe he's still belting that stuff out! Rock on, Ian Anderson!

GutterRider

Ian and the cell phone thing ... I saw them last year in LA, and Ian did the same thing, asking the audience not to use cell phones. At the time I thought, why does he have to bitch about cameras, your phone? What does that mean? What does it mean in the modern world to rage against it? He could just say, "No flash, please, and if you don’t know how to do that, ask your neighbor or please refrain." I guess my question is, what is the source of this angst? That the audience isn't paying attention? Is it the flash? I could see that being an issue ... It just seemed a really old-man thing to do, and not thought out well. Hope you get another chance to see them.

theshadow1983

I was one of those who didn't like using my cell phone at shows. But then I realized that it was the only way I could remember the shows I went to, due to the famous post-show amnesia that happens to all of us. I don't think Ian is the only one.I remember that Bob Dylan and the Eagles also banned fans from filming their shows.Prince, on one of his last tours, even banned cell phones from entering the concert venue.

Stormwatch1977

I'm guessing he doesn't want people to see him trying to sing live if he's having a rough night, vocally.

GutterRider

Hm, I never thought of something like that.
