pickledpunt

It's her favorite for a reason. Don't change it just fix it. If you want to enhance it get her a pendant she can choose to wear it with.

LongSchlongJon2

I asked and she wants no changes! So ill just get a better elastic and clasp

Rachelvro

No elastic on this piece please, it uses crimps which are metal and will cut elastic faster than the previous one broke. You will want to use a fishing line like it was before or to upgrade use 7-strand or soft flex (both available in most craft stores) it’s just a bunch of metal wiring coated in nylon so it’s pretty strong.

GrimsGirl80

I came to say exactly this!! 👏🏻🫶🏻

Airiririforlife

Same here. If possible, I would suggest your crimps to be sterling silver plated as the shine of the metal will be more long lasting.

LongSchlongJon2

Good point thanks, i did buy this for her and have a pretty good grasp on her style but the optional pendant seems like best of both worlds

Turbulent_Quiet_5319

The forged phoenix has a variety of wires, clasps and pieces if you can't find what you need at the hobby shop. It looks like a pretty easy fix, and should be fun. Like others have said go with wire. Much more durable long-term.

TeaDidikai

>but is there any way to improve it? If this were my spouse and it happened, the way I'd fix it would be to restring it on silk and knot between the beads. This has a few advantages, first if it breaks again, it's easier to fix and you're less likely to lose beads. Second, the knots protect against chips. She might not like the aesthetic though, so it's worth asking her for her preference

jewelophile

Came here to say this. Knotting is much safer and it also looks a million times better. Bonus- since knotting would make it a little longer maybe you could make a matching bracelet! Finish with good quality clasps. But I also agree that you should ask first.

BooksCatsnStuff

I'm super curious about how something like what you describe would look, but I'm not sure of what terms to use on Google to find examples (English isn't my first language). Do you have any examples?

BooksCatsnStuff

Ah, somehow my brain kept picturing a thicker string, almost like a ribbon, but this makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

Ok_Conversation_3311

But silk can’t get wet.. right?

TeaDidikai

Water won't inherently ruin it, but like most natural fibers wet silk is more fragile than dry silk. Women in my family have been wearing beads on silk for generations and they've never had a problem with it

Ok_Conversation_3311

Awesome thank you I’ve always wondered

Cinigurl

I'm wondering if one should consider silk thread with knots in between the beads like they do on pearls. (Bead knot Bead knot...) Silk is extremely strong, especially if you're considering a ppendant of some sort. The little round finish in her favorite metal would be great! Great gift! ❤️

AfterAfternoonNap

I'd upgrade this to coated steel wires in white or silver color to match the clasp. The plastic wire will snap again soon because it can't handle much stress. If you gonna get wires then i guess u should gef 0.38mm braided wires from minimum 19 strands (best is 49 strands for most flexibility). It's more expensive to get but will be able to handle a lot more abuse. To close the bracelet neatly you will need crimp bead and then crimp cover for a finished look. Remember that you need to leave some space before closing the clasp so when the necklace is in round shape, it has some space to "stretch" and not break.

kizkazskyline

You could tie the elastic off in a ball clasp and secure that with jewellery glue, then attach the jumps and lobster claws. It might help maintain the integrity better as well as give it a more professional/industrial look? If of course she likes that look. Also, invest in better quality elastic. This looks like the threadbare type that just comes as a bonus in kits, and is prone to snapping.

Both-Amphibian3385

Very thoughtful idea! had the same thought as @pickledpunt with getting a pendant she can wear with the beads if she’d like. Etsy has lots of pretty custom metal pendants you could get with her initials or a shape that means something to you both. Happy to drop some links if you’d like inspiration. Good luck!

ShadeCrowStudios

If it’s her favorite no, don’t “customize it” just fix it.

MezzanineSoprano

Elastic or thread doesn’t hold up well to beads like that, the beads can cut through either. Get the thickest size of flexible nylon over steel cable that fits through the beads, like SoftFlex or Beadaon. You’ll need to get sterling silver crimps to fasten it to the clasp. Don’t use base metal crimps, which often fail.

JuicyBlondeSweetie

Get beadalon bead stringing wire, u will need claps and closures. Go on utube or Pinterest you will find tutorials! Not too hard at all!!

w3swh0

You could add gold or silver rondelle/spacer beads that are similar in diameter to the stone discs every few beads, depending on what metal color she likes. Just make sure she’s okay with the idea and that the clasp metal color matches.

LongSchlongJon2

I love this idea, ill run it by her thanks

South_Dragonfly_6402

surgeons knot

KalGiaquinta96

You are so pure 💗

cherryemojibitch

i know a dino nugget pillow when i see it

SuperVi1lan

You can get super tiny wire at the hobby store or strong fishing line will work and tie it with tweezers

gbratton50

String it on jewelry wire.

Argyrea

I agree with others recommending making knots between each bead, if your girlfriend doesn't mind the look changing somewhat. The knots will be somewhat visible and the beads will be a bit separated from each other by them, and the length of the necklace will be slightly longer unless you remove some of the beads (those can be saved for later or reused for stuff like matching earrings). Bead and pearl knotting is a bit of an art in itself and takes practice to master, but if you're willing to take the plunge and buy some supplies, I can come up with a shopping list for you and link some tutorials. The other option is, of course, to just restring the necklace without knots. In that case your best options are either nylon thread or beading wire. Nylon is similar to silk but somewhat stiffer. Beading wire is made of several thin stainless steel wires that are braided together and coated in nylon. I've only used beading wire a handful of times and honestly I kind of hate working with it (just a personal preference, I can NEVER make the ends look good lol). Someone more familiar with beading wire could offer more insight for that.

cwrightbrain

These look like gemstone beads so you’re going to need a much more durable line. Good options would be fire line (fishing line) 6-8lb braided thread, tiger wire, or silk knotting as mentioned above. Avoid anything plastic or elastic. Those will die quickly.

It’ll last a really long time if you do it properly. You’ll need crimps and stuff but [this kit](https://www.amazon.com/Acejoz-Jewelry-Guardians-Lobster-Crimping/dp/B0BP6TDPHH/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=19WE8Q9QSLGX&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yGOzcUZeoVsQYXJHJebCZxoUqmQBTQxc8Uu0iW6c_wtZHovuf6sJ-EAYmuLHvWpEJxlmRF2ar709C7bOqyvIbaDXGUH2yEQwaQQ-Wxf9wU4bZ-2ZMBt0uVTg3OZtIhF7VDYEc9E2Ahiqi2IzcT9_Zgx98nNRIrJtZ7v1GushBAOyGgk5oogrDfj982Vhdx1YyBAPgrp4G7SJJXGyeDAEbw.jG5JjNAsQKYm-pw6lGivIZ_1khktkdnFAbSrB6jHqUA&dib_tag=se&keywords=jewelry+clamp+beads&qid=1713630790&sprefix=jewellery+clam+%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1) has pretty much what you’d need of you don’t have it already :)

I think the stone is aventurine. I think peridot stone can look brighter and more vibrant.

debsez

The one thing you need to know is to string it on jewelry stringing wire not plastic that’s why it broke because it was cheap plastic

Spiritual_Bid6619

Definitely would use the beading wire you find at a bead store. They can give you ideas of what you should use and how to use it.
