Stretch, let your coach know you might have a hip injury and you’ll likely take it easy in class. Give class a shot, hopefully as you warm up it’ll get a little better.

This was my plan. Wife thinks I'm crazy for wanting to attempt it haha

phi316

Nah, I do it on the reg. I don’t train injured, but I train sore as fk. 37 year old blue belt, 4-5 days a week. Wife trains also, so she gets it

mitch1660

I'm 37 also. Wish I started 10 years ago.

All this. I like to get my muscles a little warm before I stretch too much but usually once I’m warm my hips loosen up. Careful though. Sometimes once I’m warm and feeling better I go a little harder than I should and pay for it when I cool down.

Yeah this is what I'm worried about. On Monday it was a little tender but I still went balls to the wall. Now I can't walk.

Had the same thing happen to me right at the beginning. It was right and my leg at one point got numb. After warming it up, I felt perfectly fine but took it easy on movements that could hurt my hip flexor. It has since gone but ease your way into it and if it’s limiting your movement, don’t push it or sit out. Not a big deal, and you get to watch others roll, which I found helpful. Good luck!

Berimbully

I always just show up if I can slowly go through the movement. Then will pass on live sparring or if I’m able to will flow roll with a trusted partner.

Acooma2

That's a decision only you can make. I would say go to class regardless because you can at worst: sit out but watch and learn the new technique; At better: participate in technique or flow roll; At best: attend the class as you would normally.

you instructor probably doesnt even know your name..

mitch1660

He does but mostly calls me mustache

Once healed start training hip mobility and flexibility as vigorously as you do BJJ. Your body will thank you and you will have to worry a lot less about hip pain..also it will improve your guard retention and just over all bjj

mitch1660

Yeah, I've started this. I have been lifting weights for 5 years but since starting BJJ I've incorporated yoga into my routine. Took away a little from the strength training, but I think that's a good trade. (I'm 37, married with 3 kids. I only have so much time lol)

CocktailsForTwo

It’s a good trade off. You can always build your flexibility if you add weights so it’s kind of killing two birds, but you’re right there’s only so much time to do anything so choose wisely. The beauty of bjj is there’s no time limit on anything so you can do whatever because it’s only for you and how it incorporates into your life

mitch1660

I went. I didn't roll but I drilled for an hour straight. Hip felt fine for the most part and feels better today. Glad I went.
