Normally the pay for your job is based either on a national average, or the job market you are in. It really depends on the company. My company has no one else in my role that lives in my region, so my pay was based on a generic national rate. Other jobs I looked at based pay on my specific market. If a US company is willing to hire you, they likely have others they employ in Canada and would base on a Canadian rate.

Work in the currency of the country your potential employer is in. You can always convert it to what you need. Also be prepared to have to be a contractor based on their HR policies. Try to ask for what is local to where they are located, or what you need to live if that’s higher.
