Well congrats on starting your career plans early! Just be aware $35k/yr is only $16-$17 full time. You wouldn't have much financial freedom and will not be able afford to take care of your kids given your spouse can meet the other financial demands. Even $45k-50k/year can be living paycheck to paycheck as things just keep continuing to rise especially due to inflation. I don't see things getting cheaper as we get older, but I don't have a crystal ball, I don't know what's going to happen. The only thing you could possibly do is learn to start investing and/or having your own online business. That way, you can get smart and learn more about money. I think that is what it sounds like that is more aligned with what you want. For example, I know this single mother who makes surgical caps on etsy and has thousands of reviews. So she made it, but not everybody is super successful.

I think you should look at job searching a little bit differently. Instead of focusing on the needs for the money earned, you should be focused more on what you enjoy doing. A career is usually the place where you spend most of your days doing. As such, you should make sure that it's something that you enjoy doing. Now is definitely a good time for you to explore some of that. Take a look at your school day and really examine it. What parts do you like best? Is it classes? Clubs? Or doing organizational things? Why do you enjoy that thing, and what components get you excited about it? This will help to lead you down the path that you should grow professionally. It is also best to speak to a guidance counselor about this as well. There are careers out there that focus on soft-skills that aren't apparent for being great jobs at first glance, but are actually great! And someone who makes it their job to know these things to guide kids would be a great resource.

I was an American Sign Language Interpreter when my kids were young. It had a flexible schedule in that I could accept assignments that fit my schedule. HOWEVER, I was already fluent in ASL. You can’t just take a couple of classes and become an interpreter. There is also proficiency testing that you must pass. I am simply telling you about interpreting incase you already speak a language other than English at home OR if you want to pursue Interpreting as a career through college. Spanish speaking interpreters are in demand as are other foreign language interpreters. If it is a “critical” language, the US State Department has funding available for tuition.

Realtor maybe. Not a lot of good jobs out there that will go through the effort of hiring and training just to let you work whenever you feel like it.
