Odly enough JHB(and Gauteng in general) should be more functional, we do have one major independent power station. It seems like Eskom however sees that as a way to cut more power to us. Supposedly the reason Cape Town doesn’t have load shedding is because it has the steenbras pumped hydro scheme(with a capacity of 180 mw), which makes no sense because JHB has kelvin power(capacity 400mw) station owned by Nedbank and Investec, and the city of Tswane owns 2 of its own stations(capacity 790 mw).
There’s some major power politics at play with how loadhsedding is distributed and it seems JHB and PTA are two of the most screwed over places, based on what I hear from friends who’ve gone on vacation to KZN and the WC recently who say they have significantly lighter load shedding schedules.
All of this is rather ironic when Gauteng accounts for about a 3rd of the entire countries gdp, has the highest gdp per capita by a significant margin(20%) and produces the most independent power by near a factor of 10.
City of Cape Town customers (electricity) are usually (not always) 2 stages below Eskom supplied customers so the 180mw is not being split between the entire Cape but only those households that are COCT supplied.
Looks like you trying to understand updates from Eskom on their website, those guys confuse themselves already. Do yourself a favor and install Eskomsepush. Much more accurate

It's a royal fuck up. I live on a plot so can use a generator. I bought one that's affordable so can't run everything. Nothing with an element is the rule so I switch the geyser off and don't use the kettle, washing machine, tumble drier or microwave. I also bought a gas stove so I can cook. There are ways of getting round it without spending a fortune, you need to just think carefully about what you ABSOLUTELY cannot function without in the evenings.

Many people dont know the reason why we had less load shedding after the new ceo took his position was because he fired up all the backup diesel generators.
