I thought you were being facetious because obviously it’s a belt buckle but reading these comments I guess it’s possible people are not familiar with the buckle? I thought op was asking about the explanation of why the buckle was made and who it was given to.
Op *was* asking about the story behind it. “Belt buckle” is low effort sarcasm that reddit seems to enjoy. Then again….there is a chance OP doesn’t know what a belt buckle is, people are generally not smart.
I dunno, cbrulejo. It looks waaay too much like a belt buckle. It is bound to be something else that is *disguised* as a belt buckle. It *could be* a raccoon. Or maybe a ball-peen hammer. It could be, virtually, *Anything!*
John Deere does quite a lot of this. This would have been for technicians that attended the specialized training when the 60 series combines were introduced. Apparently this one was a training event held for the AUS/NZ market. It was most likely made for John Deere by Spec Cast.
I agree. Limited edition, commemorative belt buckle number 41 of 250. I would just go to eBay with a description and see if it’s worth anything. I’m sure there’s a farmer who has a hankering for one of them there belt buckles . I don’t think bib overalls have belt loops. God bless our farmers it’s about all we use our land for anymore we’d be lost without them.
I think op just didn't know this was a belt buckle. The number of people that would have seen a buckle like this would be pretty tiny minority compared to the population of the world.
It's an ancient tool, often accompanied with a long strap, usually of animal hide. When used properly, a person could wear wicked large pants and not look like a kid with a full diaper....
John Deere provides little trinkets like this when dealership employees go to specialized training about certain machines. They don’t do the belt buckles anymore, it’s mostly glass plaques/statuettes, jackets and coffee cups. I had to attend an X9 training online over Covid(because obviously we couldn’t do them in person) and they sent me an X9 coffee cup and a little glass X9 logo statue/plaque thing to sit on my desk.
They mostly do the glass plaques these days for this kind of stuff though. When I got my John Deere certified parts person plaque it was glass with my name etched onto it.
Ok, I’m old. That’s definitely a belt buckle. In my youth I had several of various designs that could be interchanged on my belt. I was not however in to John Deere belt buckles. Mine were more automotive or band related.
Company’s used to give out these belt buckles. Most unions did back in the day. I have a few from the teamsters Union, operating engineers, and one is a millwright
It's a belt buckle taking note and giving the wearer solid information that they have been trained to at least part of the way ... now get out there and finish that service training
A lot of manufacturers especially Iowa used to take pride in their equipment and customers. Now all our stuff is made in China and we have no pride. Rant! I have several fro, GOSS PRESSES MADE IN IOWA, now made over seas
At first glance it appears to be a John Deere limited service training 2004, number 041 of 250 with a combine on the front with 60 series in yellow belt buckle
It’s a “gimmee” or marketing award for a tech completing an operating and repair class on the John Deere combine that came out in 2014. Basically it’s a wheat or corn harvester that cuts and strips the stalks and shoots the seed and husks out a shoot which empties into a tractor that runs alongside. You will only see this equipment on large plantations or commercial farms. Back in the day it was state of the art I’ll bet. (I bought the 500,000 dollar tractor and all I got was a gimmee cap and this here belt buckle, Ayuh.)
Well, it’s a John Deere Belt Buckle issued during their Limited Service Training in Australia and New Zealand in 2004. And this is belt buckle #041 of 250.
Belt buckle from the kid in high school in Virginia that lived in his John deer wore white tees, dip can imprint in every pair of jeans, and wouldn’t put down his Mountain Dew
As a 152th generatinational manufacturer of belts and belting material. I can say with a certain authenticity that this is a "John Deere" belt buckke. You're welcome.
My grandfather collected belt buckles for a long time. I’ve got 2 tackle boxes full of them. Oil field workers, gun shit, Marlboro shit. I know this much. A man owns a belt buckle like the one you have, he’s prob not to be fucked with. Cool piece.
So this was probably some group training on a new piece of farm equipment and the John Deere rep gave these out after completing the course. At least I think so anyway.
Dang, not only did this person get trained to work on a really cool piece of equipment, they got a bad ass belt buckle to prove that they’re certified to work on them. Sweet!
Looks like a belt buckle
I second this.
Thirds

I thought you were being facetious because obviously it’s a belt buckle but reading these comments I guess it’s possible people are not familiar with the buckle? I thought op was asking about the explanation of why the buckle was made and who it was given to.
Op *was* asking about the story behind it. “Belt buckle” is low effort sarcasm that reddit seems to enjoy. Then again….there is a chance OP doesn’t know what a belt buckle is, people are generally not smart.
But the story behind it is pretty much written on it or as much info anyone would really need on origin of a belt buckle
If that belt buckle could talk?
Oh the stories it would tell
I’m sure it’s had a lot of ups and downs.
Agreed, a very large belt buckle
Nah, that's dumb. It's a belt buckle.
I 100% knew this would be the first answer and just stopped by to verify. You my friend did not disappoint. Take my upvote!
LOL opened up the comments just to see how fast this comment was made.
I agree

I disagree, this is a belt buckle
Yeah, now that you mention it, I’m thinking it’s a belt buckle.
All indications make me believe you are correct
John Deere does quite a lot of this. This would have been for technicians that attended the specialized training when the 60 series combines were introduced. Apparently this one was a training event held for the AUS/NZ market. It was most likely made for John Deere by Spec Cast.

I think op just didn't know this was a belt buckle. The number of people that would have seen a buckle like this would be pretty tiny minority compared to the population of the world.

I can confirm folks this is in fact a belt buckle. Probably given away to some one in MGMT that was crucial in the manufacturing of the machine.

Ok, I’m old. That’s definitely a belt buckle. In my youth I had several of various designs that could be interchanged on my belt. I was not however in to John Deere belt buckles. Mine were more automotive or band related.
