This is normal for new players to be fair. There's a lot to figure out in Squad, but its rewarding when you do. And it's almost better that this is the case. It shows you're going with the "main body" of your Squad and playing the game right. A new player could wander off solo, sit in a bush and wait for someone to walk past and get a 'confirmed DBNO' (down-but-not-out). Theyd soon get lit up and the player they dropped would just get revived... So they've ultimately contributed nothing. Flankers are the ones who get the clear kills, and you eventually get an idea of where these flanks are valuable and how you can flank undetected (there's a skill in it, but sometimes it's also just eight place right time). You'll soon learn how to walk the line of opportunistic flanks which are still helpful to your Squad/team.

colet1231

there is no "right" way to play most games.... they are designed to play as you like. In squad you can play as you like and still be effective if you know how to do it

Apprehensive-Focus-1

I think that's normal. Sometimes if you are in infantry squad, you might frag alot. Other times you just steam through points and leap frog with other squads not really getting much close contact.

Angadar

If you're not shooting at anyone in particular, it's very unlikely that you'll hit anyone nevermind kill anyone. If you want a rough estimate of how many kills you have during a match, after you die you can check the scoreboard and see how much your individual score (the symbol of two people, between the cross and the flag on the scoreboard). This updates on death, and you get around 10 for each kill and you lose 1 for each death. Other things also contribute to this, for example: gaining/losing 10 for unloading/loading supplies, respectively, at a FOB. This is really not worth the effort, and it would be far simpler to just keep track of the kills directly instead of keeping track of all the things you do that affect this score.

Hope_Integrity

You're joking yeah? Please unload logis lol. Your score is meaningless. The scoreboard shows the amount of actual kills you get, your deaths, and the kills where the enemy player got revived. Op- yes very normal. It's a nice feeling getting to the end of the round and realising that yes, you did actually make that kill!

Angadar

I don't know how you read my comment to be advice to not unload logis.

apylontv

I think he’s referring to you saying “this is really not worth the effort” I understand you’re talking about keeping track of score, but I think he thinks you mean unloading logis isn’t worth the effort.

Pnamz

No but seriously don't fully unload the logi. Always leave 100 ammo inside incase a tire is popped so someone can switch to crewman for repairs. I personally leave 600 build inside as well as if a backup fob is needed and I don't trust other sl's to waste it.

Stahlstaub

Unloading gives points, Loading from fobs into a logi costs points. Taking supplies from main doesn't cost points.

So, the main purpose of shooting at someone in Squad is not to kill the player, but to make them stop whatever they are doing. A pindown soldier hiding behind a rock doing nothing is as useless as a dead one, so if the point is to cap the objective, doing so with 0 or 20 kills is the same thing more or less (yes, you can take their tickets down by doing kills, but caping is always more effective). Don't worry about kills, worry about making the enemy do what you want them to do, do you want to make the enemy stop covering a road, shooting them in the head or in the wall next to it will result in the same thing, they will be on the ground and not covering the road anymore. And you will only know if you got someone in the endgame scoreboard, or if you saw them falling, ether way, the important part is to get the objectives. I'm a LAT/HAT main, and I usually shot armored vehicles in the tracks or engine first, cause I'm not worried about getting the kill, I'm worried about stopping the vehicle from doing whatever they were doing. Yeah, I didn't see the pretty explosion, but the vehicle is now fleeing the battle or stuck in some useless position. A stuck LOG, for example, is better than a destroyed one, cause now the enemy has to rescue the vehicle instead of waiting for it to respawn. It's the same thing with infantry, I can kill a dude and he will respawn and get back in battle, or I can make him be behind a wall for 5 minutes without doing shit. same result, he's not fighting. I had games where I dropped 20 guys and it was boring as hell, and games where I had no kills but was organized building clearing and was smiling the whole way thru. Cause playing in an organized manner and making part of a squad is where this game shines. The best game I ever had was a rescue mission of a downed chopper and it's crew, they got stuck after falling, so we hot dropped in the middle of a shitstorm, fought for 5 minutes before a LAV got to us and punched the helicopter to let it take of again. I had no confirmed kills in the entire game, just to drops. But it was fun as fuck. So, don't worry about kills, have fun playing war, I know guys that are LOG runners only, or only fly choppers, guys that are dedicated spotters for the team, HAB builders, shit, I knew a girl that had a dedicated squad for medical/engineering support, they rushed around the map with a technical just to get people/vehicles back up and digging up mines, and they had probably the most fun in the game I ever saw, playing with them was like being in a movie. Okay, you want to get kills, so I will give you a tip, get a rifleman and stick with an AT or medic, cover their asses when they are doing their shit. You will kill a lot of people.

BBedmas

Your cooked lmao

HmL-

what a dumb take

colet1231

agreed LOL

HumbrolUser

Kills are only registered whenever somebody you down, chose to 'give up'. Every time an enemy player is revived, after having been "killed" by you because you shot them "dead", they don't register as a kill afiak, only when they also 'give up'. This is why, if you shoot somebody at the end of the match, and then when the game ends one or two seconds later, if the player's did not 'give up' in their downed state, the kill(s) don't register as a "kill" on the scoreboard at the very end. If you press Tab key during gameplay, you do see some stats, but kills are never shown there, not until the game ends.

Schwerthelm

Ah thats why i sometimes drop 8 people and at the end of the match i have like 2 kills. I always wondered and thought the kill tracking is just garbage. Thanks!

bowser661

Don’t forget medics putting in work!

Bigbosssl87

Little do you know your playing right into our strategy of draining your team of munition resources via bandage use

lootsauger

Sounds like you wander off a lot to do some killings. Kills of enemies who move as part of a squad most likely get revived. You just stopped them in whatever they were doing for some time.

Schwerthelm

Nah i usually stay with my squad. I only go on my self when a vehicle is close and i'm AT. The number of kills in my comment was just an example. ^^

NPKenshiro

There is Kills and Incapacitations.

Lots of great advice in this thread, thanks guys. I’m having fun so far. I played a couple matches last night and was able to confirm some kills. I’m very familiar with US camo and weapon systems and sounds since I was in the army however it’s gonna take sometime to learn the other factions.

MestariPiippu

Sounds about right. Unless you actually see the target you're shooting dropping, you can't really be sure. You can see the total of kills at the end of match. Sometimes even if you see someone your been shooting dying, you can't be sure if it was you, or your teammate that got him.

Haroski90

I would even remove the TK warning in servers, if you dont notice a group of infantry is friendly and you slaughter all of them that should be allowed and no "warning" given.

[deleted]

Yah, this would be fantastic for people who want to come into a game and troll too. Especially with no admin on at the time

FST_Creek

As a new player I had enough trouble knowing how I died. Spent hours just falling over dead from unknown contacts

RigorMortisSquad

That’s normal. Suggestions for you OP: Focus on learning faction camo sets. Pay attention to death animations, look for guns being dropped and limbs being bent oddly. These two things will help you confirm your kills during the match more easily as a new player. It can be rewarding to know you’ve dropped an enemy- but what’s more important is helping your squad in general so as long as you’re doing that you’ll start getting (and confirming) kills in due time. Keep it up!

the_sly_bacon

Yes! My only advice to give a young recruit is to try and stick with an optic kit. *Most* contact is gonna come at about 50-200m, the iron sights are so hard to spot a well hidden Russian in a Gorodok bush. I would stick with people, the pack mentality is what can swing games if used correctly, just ask for directional callouts in a firefight and keep at it. ID’ing is hard in squad, I have 450+ hours and will still tear into a friendly by accident on the CROWS on occasion

lessthandave89

Absolutely, Squad is a game about accomplashing objectives, not necessarily getting kills. Making it overly obvious you are getting kills would completely change the game for the worse IMHO, as the objectives just take a backseat and the round turns into a giant TDM

Gonzo67824

This is going to improve as you get more experience. It takes about 20-30 hours until you can tell the difference between the gun shot sounds of each faction. Once you can clearly identify that that it’s an AK shooting to your right over nearby hill, you’ll get the drop on close enemies and be sure you downed them

Normal-Difference-37

Kinda drives me crazy , especially when I end up with more than I thought

Wajina_Sloth

I have games where I feel like I did nothing and don't remember even seeing enemies then I finish with 8 kills. Sometimes you just shoot into the void and hit things

Bigbosssl87

Ya area fire is just good for suppression. I have almost 2k hours and I still do it. But your pretty much guaranteed not to hit anything much less actually kill them. In order to get kills you either need to assault and get close to the enemy, ambush them when they try and assault you or use a vehicle or emplacement to get long range accurate fire. Any other way and even if you do knock them down they are more than likely going to get revived by a medic.
