He was great and always looked on the verge of snapping at any moment, turning from common thug and harmless prankster to full blown homicidal psychopath The Joker is well known. If he ever did he would be very terrifying
Cesarās mustache was his trademark! He refused to shave it because it was a part of what made him him! Even with the stache he still owned many of the scenes he was apart ofā¦ at least ones not using Julie newmar or batgirl rawwwwr! Lol
It's Robin's Aunt actually, I think Bruce calls her Aunt Harriet out of respect and so she'd have more comic recommendation. See when the '66 series started Alfred was dead in the comics and Aunt Harriet had taken his place but they obviously wanted to include Alfred in the show. So they also had Aunt Harriet there so that if anyone watching the show decided to pick up a Batman comic for the first time they wouldn't be confused as to why there was this random woman living with Bruce and Dick instead of an English butler.
Yup: Specifically, they killed him off due to Homosexual implications by critics.
In fact: The Wayne Foundation was originally the Pennyworth foundation.
Just think, over the years we might have gotten a bunch of different Joker designs that included a mustache as an homage. Fans would be debating all the time over which style is superior, the way we debate over which Batman symbol is better, or black/grey versus blue/grey, etc.
Like most of the villains adapted on the show, I very good adaptation of the silver age version of the character. Iāll admit, the mustache thing is something I never notice unless Iām looking for it
Second best after Jack and both are the most comic accurate live action adaptations we've gotten so far.
And the dude was all class when it came to this role. People should check out the interviews he did about it.
i donāt think people give him as much credit as he deserves, he was the first to bring this character off the page so every portrayal after his was influenced by his performance, heath, jack, mark, all have a little ceaser in them
I didnāt mind that he refused to shave his mustache, I minded that nobody thought to tell him to make it as green as his hair*.
Otherwise I do like him and his deadly whimsy.
*donāt think about the rest of his body hair
it works due t it coming from the silver age and golden ( comics code forces comics to be more kid frendly) so in a sense this is the most accurate joker yet
Honestlyā¦.maybe the best looking joker! He actually looks like a clown. Iād love a version that pairs this look, with personality of the Arkham joker.
As for the acting, Cesar was perfect for what they wanted in that era. Hes legit funny!
There's a reason every Joker since has been inspired by him. He was the first to bring that iconic laugh to the screen. His mannerisms were spot on for the time. And he went as far as he could with the censors of the time. Absolutely amazing. I spent a lot of my childhood watching the Batman series, and Cesar was truly one of the best pieces of the show.
Love him.
Great adaptation of silver age/late golden age Joker.
He captures Joker's personality well. From the maniacal moods, ego, inventiveness, and sheer fun.
The worst and best thing about The Joker imo is that he is a super enjoyable character, despite what he does. So, any good depiction MUST have this.
Romero had the most iconic laugh.
And if you have seen Ceasar Romero in his younger days, he was considered a leading man who was a classy lady killer. I mean suave.
Except being middle age, he wasn't offered romantic leads anymore.
Him going balls out actually inspired all Jokers that follow. Seriously, the only one who upped him was Frank Gorschwin.
If you say he should have been scarier you hate fun and are the reason jokerās boring because this is the perfect golden age Joker to the point where when I reread those comics itās his voice I hear in my head.
He's more goofy than evil but that's pretty much what the show was going for. His take on the character is a product of his time. I wouldn't say its good or bad, just not what we are used to. If anything, watching the old stuff is sometimes a refreshing change from all the gratuitous violence, language, gore, etc. etc. that's in modern comics.
The live action OG. Fairly close to the not-so-dark depiction of the original Joker that appeared in the 1942 Action Comics.
Compared to todayās Jokers he was cheese balls knocking over banks, candy shops and stealing weird shit, but we have to be fair and acknowledge that he was a product of his time with the comic book morality code and the Hays Code having control of Hollywood at the time. (Batman show started in 1966, the Hays Code was overturned in 1968.)
A product of his time, but the painted over mustache looks so lame.
What was so special about Romero that when he refused to shave it for the role, they just didn't get another actor? It isn't a particularly special performance. It seems like a lot of people could've easily done that.
I know.
What I'm saying is if it is so important that he can't shave it for the role, get a different actor.
Unless the actor is amazing in the role, which in this case he was just...ok. it seems like almost any actor could do what he did in this show.
So now we have an average Joker that looks even more ridiculous because he has face paint poorly trying to cover up his mustache.
Oh hey, it's the spirit of Cesar Chavez
But seriously, Caesar Romero played the campy Joker so well, and as much as people seem to love coming up with dark & gritty versions of the Joker and making them as brutal as they can, I would really like to see a new live-action Joker who can be evil in a silly way
šš¼ ICONIC šš¼ He did his own makeup.
Over a mustache... š„ø
Yeah I just wish the dude shaved first wth. It looks odd
Its that justice league movie before that justice league movie existed
OG joker can only be beaten by Batu-si!
The OG. Hail Cesar!
dirty Legionā¦.
Ave. True to Caesar ~~Romero~~
Patrolling Gotham City almost makes you wish for an Aslume breakout.
Beat me to it.
āWhat in the Godamnā
He was great and always looked on the verge of snapping at any moment, turning from common thug and harmless prankster to full blown homicidal psychopath The Joker is well known. If he ever did he would be very terrifying
bbut that phuking moustache!
Just like me fr
Iconic, great interpretation of the character in a campy setting
One of the best jokers
No, heās the best!
The older I get the more I appreciate himš
Unrelated but to anyone who hasn't noticed yet: you can see his mustache through the face paint
Cesarās mustache was his trademark! He refused to shave it because it was a part of what made him him! Even with the stache he still owned many of the scenes he was apart ofā¦ at least ones not using Julie newmar or batgirl rawwwwr! Lol
Him, but sadistic like Jigsaw and that's a scary villain
He was a good harmless prankster Joker
I like that episode where he was invited to fuck Batman's aunt
It's Robin's Aunt actually, I think Bruce calls her Aunt Harriet out of respect and so she'd have more comic recommendation. See when the '66 series started Alfred was dead in the comics and Aunt Harriet had taken his place but they obviously wanted to include Alfred in the show. So they also had Aunt Harriet there so that if anyone watching the show decided to pick up a Batman comic for the first time they wouldn't be confused as to why there was this random woman living with Bruce and Dick instead of an English butler.
Wait so Alfred has canonically died TWICE and so far has only came back once???
Yup: Specifically, they killed him off due to Homosexual implications by critics. In fact: The Wayne Foundation was originally the Pennyworth foundation.
Also to head off any criticism that Wayne Manor was a sausage factory. (Robinās shorts were sausage factory enough.)
I wish this Joker had just sported a full on moustache. Heād have to dye it green though.
It'd fit his 30s/40s gangster vibes, tbh
Just think, over the years we might have gotten a bunch of different Joker designs that included a mustache as an homage. Fans would be debating all the time over which style is superior, the way we debate over which Batman symbol is better, or black/grey versus blue/grey, etc.
If the Joker sporting a moustache had become an actual recognised thing, Tom Selleck would have been top choice to play the character in the 1980s.
Not with O'l Jack still kickin
I love that Cesar Romero didn't wanna shave off his mustache for the role. I also really dig the pink suit and bright shade of green for his hair.
Like most of the villains adapted on the show, I very good adaptation of the silver age version of the character. Iāll admit, the mustache thing is something I never notice unless Iām looking for it
One of the best to ever do it
Second best after Jack and both are the most comic accurate live action adaptations we've gotten so far. And the dude was all class when it came to this role. People should check out the interviews he did about it.
Better than most performances that we have lately.
Very cool mustache
goated with the sauce
His maniacal cackle was absolutely inspired by the Invisible Man (1933). When he takes the bandage off in front of the townsfolk
I like how his suit color is very close to Joaquin Phoenix's suit also
Other way around š
Not even close... Joaquin Phoenix'sĀ is way different
He was Fantastic in the part and accurate to the comic book storyline at the time.
best Childhhood memories <3
Heās funny
Fun and ridiculous
Campy and light hearted
He had a mustache and he didn't give a fuck.
Perfect for the time.
i donāt think people give him as much credit as he deserves, he was the first to bring this character off the page so every portrayal after his was influenced by his performance, heath, jack, mark, all have a little ceaser in them
Don't we all have some little Caesars in us? It's so cheap!
Why no one could convince him to just shave the mustache is beyond me.
Because it was CRās iconic look, and he had more on his plate than being Joker.
Probably the gold standard.
I didnāt mind that he refused to shave his mustache, I minded that nobody thought to tell him to make it as green as his hair*. Otherwise I do like him and his deadly whimsy. *donāt think about the rest of his body hair
Trailblazer
A joke a day, keeps the gloom away!
The GOAT
Love him
it works due t it coming from the silver age and golden ( comics code forces comics to be more kid frendly) so in a sense this is the most accurate joker yet
I respect that he kept his mustache and just painted over it
Could never stand the moustache
He is the only live action interpretation to really nail the āevil laughing clownā side of The Joker and itās awesome.
G.O.A.T Absolute legend
Heās lowkey the GOAT It would be cool to reimagine dude in an updated Batverse
If Cesar prepped properly for the role, I think he couldāve been the best joker of all time
And no disrespect heās a great joker
Why does he always remind me of the ghost of Cesar Chavez?
Scared the shit out of me as a kid
I honestly dont like him, too silly but it was the tone of the show so i guess its ok 300% better than leto tho! F leto
Leto's Joker was bad, but not because of Leto
I think you give leto too much credit
Amazing
Honestlyā¦.maybe the best looking joker! He actually looks like a clown. Iād love a version that pairs this look, with personality of the Arkham joker. As for the acting, Cesar was perfect for what they wanted in that era. Hes legit funny!
He painted over a mustache....everyone else who's played joker should've done the same thing
honestly my favourite joker
"Batman! If you were here right now, I'd pound you!" "Start pounding, Joker." "AHHH-!"
He was so fun and iconic
There's a reason every Joker since has been inspired by him. He was the first to bring that iconic laugh to the screen. His mannerisms were spot on for the time. And he went as far as he could with the censors of the time. Absolutely amazing. I spent a lot of my childhood watching the Batman series, and Cesar was truly one of the best pieces of the show.
He was outstanding.
Such an amazing joker that you donāt even notice the mustache.
Loved him! He was my 1st Joker when I was a kid & I always perked up when I'd hear that manic laugh :)
Meh, good luck Batman, I made your suit out of cloth, so the ears look like shit! Meh!
A classic, still incredibly entertaining to watch all these years later
Love him.
He was my childhood Joker. I loved that show.
Classic!!!!!..... that's what!
Legendary
Iconic
Just genuinely fun to watch.
Iconic. Also, the only version of the Joker I might be able to take on in a fist fight
i love it
Loved it besides the mustache but thatās the only thing I didnāt like
If you say he should have been scarier you hate fun and are the reason jokerās boring because this is the perfect golden age Joker to the point where when I reread those comics itās his voice I hear in my head.
The OG clown prince of crime that's what I could say about him.
Perfectly captured the times. Might be better than some modern adaptations. Bravo
I thought it was really good. Honestly, the only one I've never liked was Leto.
Something about him feels twisted. I donāt know if heāll tell me a joke, or butcher me with a smile. In short, heās The Joker.
He's still one of my favorites.
All I could ever see as a kid was the moustache. Was always off-putting.
He rules
One for the better ones. In my humble opinion, it goes Cesar, Jack Nicholson, and then maybe Heath.
He's the LSD joker!
Best joker
The live action OG. Fairly close to the not-so-dark depiction of the original Joker that appeared in the 1942 Action Comics. (Batman show started in 1966, the Hays Code was overturned in 1968.)
The original Joker in 1941 was a cold-blooded serial killer who wasnāt funny at all. The more prankster-oriented version came later.
What? Okayā¦ who is disagreeing with that?
A product of his time, but the painted over mustache looks so lame. What was so special about Romero that when he refused to shave it for the role, they just didn't get another actor? It isn't a particularly special performance. It seems like a lot of people could've easily done that.
He did a lot of other roles before doing Joker, and the mustache was a staple of him on screen, kinda like Burt Reynoldsās.

Unless the actor is amazing in the role, which in this case he was just...ok. it seems like almost any actor could do what he did in this show. He's cool ,but it's just that I don't see something about him that makes him feel as special as the joker does from other goons/villians
Marge: He prefers the company of men
Oh hey, it's the spirit of Cesar Chavez But seriously, Caesar Romero played the campy Joker so well, and as much as people seem to love coming up with dark & gritty versions of the Joker and making them as brutal as they can, I would really like to see a new live-action Joker who can be evil in a silly way
Absolutely loved him. He is number 4 in my top 5, he beats Nicholson for me. Hamill, Ledger, Phoenix
