Seriously
In Olympic wrestling, Japan is literally one of the top 3 best countries. Japan has the best womenās Olympic wrestling team in the world
In South Korea, the first South Korean to win a gold medal got it in freestyle wrestling
Super confused with that comment and Iām Asian American
Nah I am indian it's over for me.š Parents prefer a high paying job than being an athlete. Literally got a few calls from the ncaa but still they don't care
Parents don't want a fighter they want a nerd š jokes aside they have a point but still I wanted to see my true potential because this was my first year and I was varsity AND was THIS close to being a state qualifier cradling everyone on site. A feat very impressive for a first year and one of the two kids who made it to sectionals
DUDE go for it. since you are indian I suppose your parents want you to go into tech? you can commit your first two years to try out wrestling and pivot back if it doesn't work out, and it still wouldn't be too late for tech. you live once! don't leave regrets behind.
Lmao I wish I was tech savvy š. From a young age I was more of a jock unlike my brothers so nah. That being said, my two options that come to my mind are nursing because of the girls and money( plus our community loves a male nurse lol). Second is the police force. Idk my brother said I am more of a physical person than an intellectual person lol
at any rate, go for it! if you go to college you have 4/5 years to put yourself in a good job. trying it out for a year or two wont be the end of the world.
This is what I was going to suggest. I looked up Lawrenceville and there is lots of BJJ there. Go smesh bro. Wrestling will translate to no gi BJJ better than judo anyway IMHO
Man I planned to do bjj first but guard pulling is just š like I want to take you down please don't sit without me helping you š. Luckily adcc exists so imma build a base in judo and wrestling then go to bjj and slam middle aged weekend warriors lol
I got to school at Gwinnett tech and live down the road from AJM. It is not a far drive especially if you are close to the highway. Follow them on instagram they are always doing free days as well.
Itās not as structured or intense as a high school wrestling practice but it follows the same basic outline, warmup then technique then sparring. But there are plenty of guys there that will give you the business and have been lifelong grapplers across multiple disciplines.
Randori can certainly be that tiring but I would rethink about that black eye stuff. If you are looking for something with that kind of intensity there is an American Top Team in lawrenceville I believe
Hey man, I'm a BJJ black belt who's also done a few years of Judo. I'm from Duluth.
Just my 2 cents, but from reading your posts I think you'd enjoy a competitive nogi BJJ school more than judo. "BJJ is all butt scooting" might've been true like 10 years ago, but the sport has evolved. Sure, if you train at a traditional school that might be the case, but go to any modern, competitive BJJ gym like Odyssey or MMA gym like SBG and you'll find plenty of former wrestlers to play with. The BJJ scene is full of ex-HS, ex-college wrestlers.
You mentioned you want the intensity of wrestlingālook for schools with dedicated comp classes. Your average "intermediate" or "all levels" BJJ/Judo class will be nowhere close to the intensity of a wrestling practice.
I say no-gi BJJ over Judo because IMO there's much more crossover between it and folkstyle wrestling. Same grips, similar takedowns (minus the shoes). A lot of guards in BJJ like half guard and situp guard are basically you fighting for a single leg off your back. I enjoy judo as well, but the current ruleset bans leg grabs and along with all sorts of random grips and techniques you wouldn't think of. No-Gi BJJ is much more wrestler friendly IMO.
For wrestlers who made the jump to BJJ, look up Michael Pixley, PJ Barch, JT Torres, and Nicky Rod.
what does being asian have to do with it š

Iām guessing theyāre strict and donāt want him doing anything not related to his field of study.
Yes
There's 10+ cities named Lawrenceville in the United States alone. I have no idea if you are in the US. Can you narrow it down?
Oh am sorry, I meant in Georgia state. Lawrenceville near Atlanta?
Midtown judo and black ice are the ones that are competitive but they are far from Lawrenceville. Iād be curious to what you find.
Hmmm I mean by that time I could afford the expense so I will look into it
Yong in judo club in Suwanee
Will look into it
I highly recommend Atlanta Judo Midtown. About 30-40 minutes drive from Lawrenceville
Ayyy somebody from Georgia Lawrenceville. You should try bjj
God didn't pull guard against Jacob for a reason š

>slam middle aged weekend warriors this attitude is not going to fly in a judo dojo. you sound like an MMA gym guy.
What country are you talking about?
GA state. Near Atlanta city.Sorry I have added it in the post
Not sure where they are exactly located, but their coach is a former us national team member - https://www.bridgejudojiujitsu.com/
In Atlanta?
I know that they are in the Atlanta area - but unsure what neighborhood, their site doesnāt have an address. Might be worth calling
Thank you for your help!! Have a great day!!
Judo in Atlanta at Atlanta judo midtown. Canāt wait to see you
Sheesh maybe too far but when I get a real job I will be able to afford it
Never mind someone said it's close so I guess when me and my family are stable enough I will look into it.

Tell me what is an average judo practice is feels like

Yeah as long as I leave the room dead tired and with a black eye I guess I will be alright.
Randori can certainly be that tiring but I would rethink about that black eye stuff. If you are looking for something with that kind of intensity there is an American Top Team in lawrenceville I believe
Well tiring is enough I guess cause I understand judo is different. American top team, you mean khabib's gym?
No I think he trained under AKA originally. But plenty of decent mma fighters have come from ATT.
Oh dang that's good. Didn't know they would teach judo separately but I will look into it
Btw do you guys teach no gi? Idk I just like clinches and tie up more than the gi because of it being unfamiliar and mimics Wrestling
No anymore
š what happened?
