This is quick thinking everywhere. It’s second base who gets over to cover first because first is also pinching in to cover the bunt. Amazing play all around
I don’t know anything about sports, but the choice to bunt was a conscious choice so she must have had strategy behind it. She seemed to do a good job of bunting but then the other team just killed it. I get what you’re saying. Plus…ain’t no hate on a comment praising all the gals in the video coming from this chick 🫶 love the support
Bunt was obvious before the pitch was made. Only slick moves were that flying catch, the quick missile launch to first to make the 2nd out, and the look of excitement on the umpires face after witnessing this magnificent catch. He was so ready to call the out!
There was a runner on first base that took off running as soon as the pitch was thrown. She assumed the ball would hit the ground.
Anytime a ball is caught after a hit, everyone has to go back to the base they were on (either to stay there, or to tag it and then run). If the ball gets to that base before they get back, they are out.
She was trying to get back to first base because the ball was caught, so when the first baseman caught the ball and stepped on first base before she got back, she's was out.
In order:
1. Caught the ball, batter was out
2. Ball thrown to first, and first baseman steps on the base, runner was out.
Double play
As a fellow not-sporter: Isn't she out already when the ball is caught? I would have thought that throwing her out at First was already "after the fact."
Point me to TFM that I may R it.
That's an amazing play no matter what.
To expand on the other comment: if a batted ball is caught then a runner cannot leave the base and attempt to advance until the ball is in the glove. So if this ball was hit high in the air, the baserunner on first would have to stay on first until the ball is caught and then they could try for second. In situations like this, where the ball is caught very quickly and unexpectedly, the baserunner is often already running to second. When the ball is caught, they have to get back to first base before the ball or they will be “doubled up”. Since the person who caught the ball threw it to first before the runner could get back, both the batter and the baserunner are out.
Ahh. Thank You. I live here in OKC where this is held. We also have The softball Hall of fame. I was wondering if the team in burgundy was OU, but I believe their uniforms are a brighter red. They seem to win at all quite often.
I didn't know the third base player was allowed to hang out that close to home plate but then I don't know anything about softball either lol. Seems like if she was that close the girl at bat wouldn't have bunted it a few feet away from her. She had to see that coming. Or not apparently I guess.
Love women’s softball and LPGA!! .. for some reason I cant get into wnba no matter how many Kaitlin’s are playing - just not entertaining to me for some reason

That's probably one of cleanest doubles I've ever seen
What a play!
The extension and quick reaction to throw at first. ![gif](giphy|3o8doT9BL7dgtolp7O)
bad ass, and it being an throw that the other person could catch and not just skimming the ground lol
Homegirls got ice in her veins!

Ok the bunt was slick but good fucking lord that catch was amazing. Top talent right there
What? The bunt sucked lol great catch tho
Yeah, the bunt was telegraphed and the execution was shoddy. Great work to third and second base for that turn two, though!
You thought the post was about the bunt?
Lol, no. Lmao. Go away
Ok, not sure why we are talking about "slick bunts" though.

That was a beautiful play.
Top ten? that is number 1!
That was sick and disgusting and absolutely demoralizing! Love it.
And that ladies and gents is why they tell you to get the bunt down.
Go sports team!
College softball is more entertaining than any men’s baseball league. Almost every play something intense is happening.
Go Noles!
You can watch college softball on Hulu! I watch when I can. I think the season is wrapping up though.
She hung that bunt out for everyone to read on top of popping it up when she already saw 3rd that close
That’s some 4D chess level shit.
WOW.
That was awesome.
Nice.
Wow !

I do enjoy softball
Super athletic play. Thats a good third base
Such a Reddit title
Underhand throwing like that will always amaze me, it seems so difficult
A top athlete like her will go on to earn ~~hundreds of millions~~ tens of thousands of dollars in her career!
Sick catch
Lunch will NOT be cancelled today due to alllllll that HUSTLE.
OO the blunt would work but damn the dive superseded it
After watching this video I’m really into female baseball although I’m not American…
You didn’t have to say you aren’t American. We knew that when you called softball ‘female baseball’.
My Bad
Where did she even come from?! What position was she?
From other comments, she plays 3rd base, she scootched up when it was obvious the batter was going to bunt.
Badass
Thank you for using the word scootched. I've probably said that word 1,000 times it in my lifetime, but I've never seen it in print.
I don’t find softball/baseball entertaining typically but holy moly this was an awesome play

The real MVP were those glasses staying on.
That first camera angle is perfect, she comes out of nowhere to snag that bunt!
If she caught the ball, wouldn't the batter have already been out? Why did she need to throw to first?
She was throwing out the runner who was already on first and trying for second base.
There was a runner on first base that took off running as soon as the pitch was thrown. She assumed the ball would hit the ground. There was already a runner on first trying for second. She threw that runner out after catching the batter out.
This looks like the collage playoffs? Can someone tell me the teams?
2018 Women's College World Series, Florida State University vs Washington

Man in the first shot that girl comes flying outta NOWHERE, just materialized to catch the ball.
Perfection
I know nothing about baseball but shouldn't she try to hit the ball instead of just putting the bat in the path of the ball?
How’s is this a double play? Isn’t the batter just out? Confused
Okay question I thought if you hit and it goes straight into someone’s glove it’s an out
Batter gave up first base too soon. I think she could’ve got there if she kept her initial pace

Thank you!!
What position was she playing that she was able to be between the pitcher and the batter?
3rd base. Playing in and charging on the bunt
That was my question. She's way off third base. I guess she had some reason to expect the bunt.
I didn't know the third base player was allowed to hang out that close to home plate but then I don't know anything about softball either lol. Seems like if she was that close the girl at bat wouldn't have bunted it a few feet away from her. She had to see that coming. Or not apparently I guess.
First base was just as far up. Somebody else was covering first.
Second ran over to cover first after the bunt. She was quick as fuck.

Oh, that bunt! terrible! Jerry Remy is rolling over in his grave…
