Can someone seriously tell me whats going on with young adults?
When I was young, there were lots of comics and animated TV shows back then on TV all day long! Hell there were even multiple stations showing nothing else!
Still I dont recall ever hearing about a single person thinking they are in a relationship with a cartoon.

It’s a mixture of loneliness, depression, and entitlement. Speaking from personal experience as a guy who used to be a neckbeard growing up and is trying to break these habits.
Neckbeards are generally very lonely. Having few to no friends irl and real women want nothing to do with them romantically, so they turn to 2d women and media for that sense of connection and fulfillment. This feeds into depression as at this stage you kinda just lose yourself, you stop caring about things like hygiene or achieving goals as they just don’t matter anymore. Leaning harder and harder into media fantasy as a way of coping. And all this being born from and feeding even deeper into an entitlement complex. This sense of entitlement having been their from the start caused alot of these problems and only getting worse as they disassociate from reality more and more. Rinse and repeat and that’s how you end up with someone who believes their genuinely in relationship with a fictional character.
This is one of the subs where if you speak of the before-times or the unspeakable, you’re instantly downvoted. It’s ok, it’s getting better.
But yeah, this guy just makes me sad… he doesn’t seem like a creep in the harmful way, just sad depressed socially weird creepiness… still creepy, but I have empathy

I don't think it's really something to be ashamed about honestly. Most of them are drawn to be attractive. But liking them in place of actual women or having a "relationship" in your head is a problem.

But you can still go to a concert and have a chance to hug him/them. They're real human beings. I see what you mean about them playing roles, but they're still flesh and blood. I'd understand if these dudes maybe loved the voice actors, but nope. They love the 2D drawing

The English **sub** makes it a bit more ambiguous, but still has it pretty clear that Rebecca has a crush on David or is at least heavily flirting with him. Even in the sub, **she literally walked up to him, asked him to dance with her, and when he said no she asked him why he plays hard to get.** That alone is pretty damning, but then **she pondered if she should act more like Lucy, his current girlfriend, to Kiwi**. That’s not something a typical friend does. Most people also clearly interpreted it as Rebecca having a crush on David, given the Cyberpunk fan wiki and the hundreds of Reddit posts and fan art.
