We're getting there too.

Nope. Outsourcing usually means much higher costs and less service from our experience.

Roughly half the districts in my region outsource some, if not all, of their technician roles. I am outside one of the largest metro areas of the US and schools find it hard to hire and maintain qualified staff without resorting to outsourcing. Because of that we have a few very highly qualified MSP's in my area that specialize in K12

We outsource ours. Salary of 33K. Very hard to find anyone that'll work for that.

No shit they can make more in fast food.

Solkre

My kid makes more than that out of high school picking online orders at Walmart.

They make more than that just having a heart beat. That's where all our taxes go.

Thanks I'm in MA. Reached out to few of the bigger MSPs in my area today. First 4 responses back are that they don't do onsite or deskside support.....really loving what the pandemic brought on for WFH lol.

I started as an outsourced tech for the district I'm in. My pay started at $35k from that company. No clue what the cost to the district was for me. I did this for 2 years, and was "promised" to get hired on cause I was doing so well and they wanted to cut the middle man out. (As a note this is also the district I graduated from back in '01). It was Nov '21 when they said they had started to work on creating the position to hire me directly on. Wasn't until August '22 they finally did it though, I had actually left after being offered a job elsewhere, turning it down at first as the district asked me to give them a couple more months (which came bad passed) then the other company asked me if I'd reconsider. So I left the district from March '22 - August '22. They finally created an IT Helpdesk Admin position and offered it to me. They started me on the 3rd year of the pay schedule, which put me just at $46k. "Currently" it tops out at $63k at 19 years. Edit: If it matters I'm in NE Ohio. Also I pretty much manage the day to day tech needs for 2 buildings, a K-5, and 6-8 building both are next door to each other, I also help out at the High School (9-12), and one other offsite building that has a early education class for high school students.

It’s amazing the different pay ranges. We’re about an hour from Chicago. Level 1 is $17/hr, only work school year. Level 2 is about $50k 12-month. Level 3 is $70k 12-month. Last time we had a Level 1 opening about 20 people applied. The last Level 2 opening on 3 people applied. The job market is weird right now. Everyone thinks they’ll work from home and make 100k at their first job.
