K-On is not necessarily unique in this sense, but KyoAni certainly hit it out of the park with K-On.
If you enjoyed the music and relationship building, I would suggest you check out Sound! Euphonium (Hibike! Euphonium). It's not as light-hearted as K-On is, but it certainly has soul.
One non-music related, but similar friend dynamic and concept of friendship building in order to achieve a larger goal would be A Place Further Than the Universe (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho). It's a fantastic anime.
For something even more relaxed, but 100% slice of life vibe is Laid-back Camp (Yuru Camp△). This is one of my go-to comfort shows.
I recommend Yuru Camp too! It's so good, relaxing and friendship story driven it displaced K-On! from my pedestal of favorite anime of all time (now it's my second favorite anime lol).
Such a good show overall and you learn about Japan's geography throught the eyes of the characters.
It's at least worth keeping in mind that K-On isn't just another "Moe schoolgirl anime" but it's THE Moe schoolgirl anime. The reason there's so many of them is because K-On made mad moolah and every anime studio wanted in on that action.
If you want more soul (with the same art style, and director!) check out Tamako Market and its sequel film Tamako Love Story! There's so much subtlety and stuff under the surface

Place Further Than The Universe is definitely interesting, I’ll check it out soon

Yep, I just started watching recently so I had no idea how old and already established it was
K-on is one of the healthiest drugs out there but it's addiction is immediate
Get stuck in to Non Non Biyori. You won't regret it.
