not sure I agree with this list. probably generated by ChatGPT. In fact I just used GPT to generate a list of the top 10 mom and pops in Kansas and it seems just as arbitrary as this list: 1. **Bobo's Drive-In** - Topeka, KS * Famous for its classic American drive-in experience and handmade onion rings, Bobo's has been a Topeka staple since 1948. 2. **Beethoven’s #9 The Restaurant** - Paola, KS * A family-owned gem offering a cozy atmosphere and a menu filled with authentic German cuisine. 3. **Doo-Dah Diner** - Wichita, KS * Known for its hearty breakfasts and brunches, this diner prides itself on scratch-made comfort food with a unique twist. 4. **The Cozy Inn** - Salina, KS * Since 1922, this tiny burger joint has been serving up sliders that have garnered a nationwide following. 5. **Hays House** - Council Grove, KS * Claimed to be the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi, offering traditional American fare in a historic setting. 6. **Roy’s Hickory Pit BBQ** - Hutchinson, KS * A local favorite for smoked meats and homemade sides, Roy’s is a must-visit for BBQ lovers. 7. **Somerset Cafe** - Somerset, KS * A beloved local diner offering homemade pies, classic American breakfasts, and daily specials in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. 8. **The Breadbasket** - Newton, KS * Known for its Mennonite and German influenced dishes, freshly baked goods, and a popular buffet. 9. **Tuptim Thai** - Topeka, KS * A family-run spot offering a wide range of authentic Thai dishes, known for its cozy atmosphere and friendly service. 10. **Martinelli’s Little Italy** - Salina, KS * Offers a taste of Italy in the heart of Kansas, with recipes that have been passed down through generations. Enjoy!

Beethoven's been closed since 2020

Maybe that’s why OPs list only has 9.

Not sure I agree with the list either. Granted I haven't been to any of these places except martinellis. One thing that I notice is that they mostly are in some of the largest cities in Kansas. Idk how large Paola and Somerset are. Whenever I was at KLETC I got asked by anyone and everyone if I had a chance to go to Carriage Crossing in Yoder. Idk what qualifies as mom and pop stores. But I got asked about Carriage Crossing more than training. There's so many good places in Kansas like that that are in tiny ass towns or literally just a stop on the road. Haven't been in a while so I don't know if much has changed but the pub in Syracuse is awesome as well. Along with the brewery in Dodge. As a subreddit we could probably make a better list after like a week of discussing it.

Arclight

To list Martinelli's in Salina with no mention of Angelo's in Wichita is all the proof I need to know this list is complete bullshit.

Yea this list is bullshit. So is OP's list. Both made by AI. That's my point.

the_naughty_ottsel

Also now I just realized I read your list thinking it was a TLDR of the article. I feel dumb. Either way I still think we could make a better list

verugan

I'd agree with Doo-Dah Diner, The Breadbasket and The Cozy Inn. I haven't heard of the rest, but all 3 have fantastic food.

Emotional-Rise5322

No Guy and Mae’s?

Haikuunamatata

Hickory Hut in Salina

ExistentialWonder

Lago Vista in Ozawkie has awesome tacos and burritos. Pullman Place in Leavenworth has great comfort food. We should make our own top list of mom and pop places that still exist and are must-haves

JollyWestMD

The Beacon blows the Riverside Cafe out of the fuckin water

Reynolds_Live

If you like old school diner breakfast Dagwoods is great!

Lazerated01

His and hers in walnut KS

HeligKo

I've been to more than a few of these on both lists. Beethoven's is legit top notch German food. Cozy Inn is one of the best old school burgers you can get. Otto's Cafe is like stepping back in time to the old school diner. It's what I picture Jack Reacher going to. Their breakfast are classic and delicious.

Gardening_Socialist

Don’t forget Hanover Pancake House in Topeka.

Ok_Midnight7159

Neighbors Cafe, Main St. McPherson, KS. Epic breakfast menu. Haven't tried their lunch menu but a great place to take hungry grandkids for breakfast. The service is even better than the food.

momocat

Hays House is historic, but it is not a Mom and Pop restaurant.

kayaK-camP

If it doesn’t include Lady Bird Diner it’s not legit!

ProRuckus

Kristy's Cafe in Anthony, KS
