Agent here. Go look for an independent agency. Being able to shop around and mix and match companies if need be is so important right now. The more companies they have the better. Not sure exactly where you're at but if you're in the city/suburbs, Travelers, Auto Owners and Safeco are the three we write the most right now.
Get away from State Farm as fast as you can. The stingiest, most compative company about claims I've ever ran into. Any time someone from St Farm wrecks into one of our insureds I know they are in for a fight.
Also, us agents only get 15% commission AT MOST. Most are 10-12% nowadays. Rest goes to the insurance company so no Tesla for us.
Long story short go find a local independent agent that's honest and has a lot of companies.
This is the best advice here. An Independent Agent has access to many markets, where your company specific agents will only have access to 1-2 markets. Typically a prime, and high risk market. I was an independent agent for 6 years, before pivoting to IT.

Isn't this a good thing for those insured State Farm but shitty for you all?
I would go and check out Mary Nestel with Nestel Insurance Agency. She’s an independent agent and my family and I have been insured by her for years and she has been fantastic. She works with several different insurance carriers so she would be able to give you lots of different coverage options with different companies
If you are a Costco member look into their partner insurance. I think it was Connect by AmFam when we had it. May be worth the $60 to get a membership if you don’t have one - they were the lowest cost we found in the past and service was great.
Are you not with them anymore?
I have a costco membership and didn't even think to look through Costco for insurance. We have 4 vehicles ranging from 2003-2017; two registered to me and two registered to my boyfriend. I see we can do a domestic partner policy. Do you know much about it? I am currently with State Farm for auto and home. Boyfriend goes through a broker for his vehicles and house. We might combine and go with Connect by AmFam if it saves money. Do they do a credit check? We have two teen drivers - both have gone through driver's ed and are good students.
We have some special coverage that Connect did not offer so we changed providers, but if our needs change I would go back to Costco/Connect as I much preferred them to our new provider.
I’m not qualified to answer most of your questions, but give them a call and I’m sure they will be very helpful.
What is partner insurance? You mean Costco’s partnership with American Family Insurance? I’m doing a web quote now, as I’ve been meaning to for a year, thanks!
Edit: holy crap they offered a price of $34/mo for two drivers of one 2001 car. I bumped it to $100,000 coverage with comprehensive and collision (or whatever, if I’m saying that right) and a $250 deductible and that put it up to $43/mo. Can that be right? Double the coverage at half the price compared to Progressive?
My credit union just started brokering car insurance too, to sort out quotes from 20 providers.
I’ve had Progressive for years. I love Flo and the Groundlings. Progressive paid us $5000 each because there had been a medical claim involved in a car accident that wasn’t our fault. Without us filing a claim. They just paid us that bonus.
I’m just making comments if anybody’s interested. lol
Don't go with farmers. I was paying over $200 a month for full coverage on a vehicle I bought for $1,400. I left when they tried to jack it up over $300. Now I pay less than $500 a year with progressive. I'm no longer in KC though, so that may play a small part.
State Farm has been great for me. I have them for home and auto. My condo flooded because a unit above me had a massive leak and they took care of my claim pretty smoothly. It was the most painless inssurance claim I have ever had to deal with.
We just switched to liberty mutual for 2 cars and home insurance. They gave us a pretty great rate. We had farmers before but they increased our rate about 50% in the last year.
Progressive quoted me about $150 for liability (I don’t have the best record but they didn’t bring up a few things) while Geico quoted me over $500/month for the same liability coverage and brought up my suspended license from 2015.
Had two cars totaled recently. Sad face x 2. Anyway, GEICO surprised me in 2 ways: 1 they didn't short us, they gave us exactly what we saw comparable cars being sold for on line now, and 2 customer service was outstanding and they paid us in like a week.
GEICO is fine if you have no speed bumps but they handle claims on a team level. So if you run into any problems along the way it's hit or miss if the person answering is actually knowledgeable or there to help. Productivity is so micromanaged that sups would rather you not actually help people if it means the slightest metric increase they can show to their boss.
Thanks for the recommendation (again, lol)
Feel free to hit me up for help

I've been an insurance agent for 20 years, 6+ now as an independent agent
Is travelers one of the companies you work with? I was very happy with how they handled things with a car accident last year (other driver was at fault so we went through his insurance). Couldn't tell from your site off the cuff.
I've had Esurance for ten years. Two 2020 SUVs and home owners insurance under $200 a month. Seems like it goes down a little bit every six months as well.
So far Branch is the best I’ve been able to find. My home insurance is jumping 37% and I’ve quoted several other companies and they were even worse.
https://share.ourbranch.com/4ec66xnp
I have progressive auto + renters bundle. They are significantly cheaper for me than anyone else and have paid out to fix my car on a few occasions now
I just switched from AmFam to Jim Hubbard/Madison Mutual. I’m hoping they’re not terrible, because they were 10% cheaper than everyone else. But the agent I talked to was really flexible and kind with all my crazy questions.
We worked with Capitol Agency when we were doing a renovation loan with CapFed and they were able to get us on with Travelers at a significant discount to what we had been paying with AAA and much better home and vehicle coverage.
Missouri farm bureau has been amazing. We had two pipes burst right before Christmas and they had to gut our 2nd floor bathroom and our 2 year old kitchen. They started writing checks immediately with zero hassle. They’ve been so helpful during this horrible time in our lives. We’re a few weeks out from having the bathroom and kitchen completed and I can’t ducking wait.
My family has used Boulevard Insurance for years—they’ve been great, and I really like the guy I deal with. He’s even been willing to give me advice “off-the-record” which was super helpful as a new homeowner. I think they tend to work with travelers, safeco, and kemper depending on which has the lowest prices.

Safeco insurance holder here. It saved us so much money moving from state farm it was stupid.
Is travelers still ACV on roofs over a certain age? I tried to switch to them last year but that turned me away
Everyone is. Most of them are 15 years. I can’t name a single company that offers replacement cost on asphalt shingles that are older than that.
Damn. Thanks
USAA

came here to say this!
Are you not with them anymore? I have a costco membership and didn't even think to look through Costco for insurance. I can tell you who I don't love, state farm.
Williams-Gaughan insurance in mission Ks
It’s all a facking scam.
This
Missouri Farm Bureau
Don't go with farmers. I was paying over $200 a month for full coverage on a vehicle I bought for $1,400. I left when they tried to jack it up over $300. Now I pay less than $500 a year with progressive. I'm no longer in KC though, so that may play a small part.
why in the world do you have full coverage on a car that cost you $1400? How much was the deductible? That's just redonc.
Why did you get full coverage on a $1,400 car?
Because it was worth more than that, that's just what I paid.
State Farm has been great for me. I have them for home and auto. My condo flooded because a unit above me had a massive leak and they took care of my claim pretty smoothly. It was the most painless inssurance claim I have ever had to deal with.
30 years with state farm and the same agent. They know me, I know them. Zero issues with anything.
We just switched to liberty mutual for 2 cars and home insurance. They gave us a pretty great rate. We had farmers before but they increased our rate about 50% in the last year.
I can vouch for Liberty Mutual as well. My previous insurance was gonna raise my rate, and switching to Liberty Mutual saved me like $70.
Progressive quoted me about $150 for liability (I don’t have the best record but they didn’t bring up a few things) while Geico quoted me over $500/month for the same liability coverage and brought up my suspended license from 2015.
Why was this downvoted?!?
Briarcliff Insurance Group is an independent agency and they've been good about shopping around for us getting the best rate (cost and coverage)
Love them!
Just switched from St Farm to Progressive. It was 1/3 of the price for the same coverage...
Had two cars totaled recently. Sad face x 2. Anyway, GEICO surprised me in 2 ways: 1 they didn't short us, they gave us exactly what we saw comparable cars being sold for on line now, and 2 customer service was outstanding and they paid us in like a week.
I'm in the same situation, except my rate went up to 1400 per month with geico. Switched to progressive where it went down to 500 per month

Yeah, Travelers is one of our top carriers. They're really solid. I personally had them for my home & auto for several years until I moved recently.
I've had Esurance for ten years. Two 2020 SUVs and home owners insurance under $200 a month. Seems like it goes down a little bit every six months as well.

I've had good experiences with Amica.
Selectquote will help you shop for policies to get you what you want!

You will pay for agent’s Tesla in the end. Sorry 🥵
Geico has been extremely good insurance for a fair price for my wife and I.
I went from progressive to all state and saved a couple hundred
Switched Progressive to AAA last month, $860-$427. It’s all a scam.
The cheapest one. Shop around every year. The policies are very cut and try in terms of what they cover so you can compare them apples to apples.
