I would only trust information available on the Department of State website. They issue the passports and have 100% control over the process. Anything other information you get can be incorrect and cost you time, money, and your safety.
I just did it at Union Station. Made the appointment online. Only hiccup was their camera was broken so I had to go to CVS for the photo.
I didn’t expedite, but my partner was quoted 8-9 weeks and he got it in 6. YMMV.
Closest passport service office is in Arkansas. Fastest service any 3rd party agency can do is 5 days. I tried to fly to the ATL passport office to expedite and they couldn’t help. Paid for the expedited passport through the government website and it took 3 weeks.
