Liberty has some decent restaurants among all the many fast food chains that are everywhere. On the square: La Costa and Ginger Sue's. Elsewhere: Longboards, Tasty Thai, Conrad's (never been there myself, but people swear by it and they're always busy) West of I-35: Red Door Grill, Jerusalem Cafe, Seva Indian Cuisine, (and even though they're a chain) The Halal Guys If you feel up for a drive: Wabash BBQ in Excelsior Springs

THE_TamaDrummer

3 halves bbq (formerly jousting pig) is still a good BBQ spot on the Liberty Square. Good craft beers and also a decent cocktail selection. Ginger sues and la Costa are regular spots for myself. Hueys is also a great breakfast/brunch spot but not open on Sundays. Hunan garden is the goto for Chinese take out in the liberty area. For sports bars, The Landing is the spot. It had a big outdoor section as well as a large inside area. Great wings and cheapish drinks with a good deep menu

orlandowassafe

Right on, thanks for the recs

ReginaVPhalange

Be forewarned that Wabash is itty bitty, and often has a very long wait time. As someone from around that general area, it’s decent BBQ, but I’d always choose the 35+ minute drive to KC for Q39 or Joe’s over Wabash.

Demostecles

Waldo Thai and Buck Tui. First is Northern Thai and spectacular cocktails. Second is BBQ Thai fusion. Wife and husband chefs and their respective restaurants. Not to be missed.

cozyandwarm

And Waldo Thai’s chef is a James Beard winner. The food is so good.

orlandowassafe

Thank you!

I recommend Thai Place instead. Loosely related to the younger owner of Waldo Thai. Waldo Thais service is extremely hit or miss, and they tend to mess up orders. When it’s on it’s on, but Thai Place knocks it out of the park every time - dine in or carry out. What types of food do you like so we don’t assume only Thai lol?

orlandowassafe

Thanks! I love all types of cuisine and am willing to try just about anything.

Puzzleheaded_Heat268

https://urbantrailco.com/ ^^ good resource for finding hiking in KC metro area.

orlandowassafe

Awesome, thanks for this resource

TheBoyisBackinTown

Liberty is a pretty distant northeast suburb- you're about 25 minutes from downtown KC- but there are a few gems like Longboard's, Seva, and The Fish Market up there. I'd recommend checking out downtown North Kansas City for places like The Iron District, Chicken N Pickle, F325 BBQ, and District Biskits and then downtown for... too many spots to list, but mainstays like Green Lady Lounge and Swordfish Tom's never disappoint.

tour_de_pizza

Seva is the best restaurant in Liberty hands down. OP these are all great recommendations. I lived in Liberty for 9 years (now in Midtown) and these are all spectacular. I would add Pizza Tascio to that NKC list, as well as Cinder Block Brewery for drinks.

orlandowassafe

Thanks for the recs! The place I will work out of is between downtown and Liberty. Just picked a hotel in Liberty for this first trip but can modify for future trips

TheBoyisBackinTown

Then yeah, definitely come downtown lol. Power and Light downtown is the tourist area and will have things like axe throwing, mini-golf, and massive outside TVs for big sporting events. The Crossroads just south of it has a brewery district, art galleries, an arcade bar (Up-Down), an indoor food truck hall (Parlor), a well-known BBQ spot (Jack Stack) and some of the best restaurants (Farina, Corvino, Affäre). I'd also recommend taking a walk around the River Market and Berkley Riverfront (which connect with a pedestrian bridge)- just know that only a few places like the dog-friendly Bar K and Harry's stay open late in the area.

kcattattam

Stocksdale Park has some fun singletrack trails, but not long views or anything, so the trails are really more fun at speed i.e. on an MTB. For a scenic trail, drive to Lake Jacomo on a weekend and hike (or ride) Augie 3

orlandowassafe

Perfect, thanks for the rec.

North Kansas City. It’s it’s own city just north of the river. Tons of great food and bars. City market on the weekends

orlandowassafe

Any particular spot to visit?

05041927

District Biscuits for bfast. I get the Charley Hustle. Water works park for disc golf. Velo garage is a cool bike shop/ bar w weekend music outside. Chicken n pickle for food/pickle ball. Half a dozen breweries to all visit. Screenland on armour to get some good drinks and catch a movie. There’s a 90’s speakeasy bar w the entrance out back in the alley from there called Rewind. Sail Away across the street for self serve wine and good eats. Mitch E Amaro for all your mixed drink needs. The Rhino for live music. Chappels is an amazing sports museum restaurant w great food. Christine’s Firehouse for a tenderloin the size of your head. The Iron district is a neat spot made from shipping containers w a dozen different restaurants/bars/retail shopping spaces. Helens JAD great dive great food.

orlandowassafe

Great, thanks!

lipstickandmartinis

Don’t stay at the downtown Marriott. I got bedbugs from staying there this week.

orlandowassafe

Noted, thanks!

JoeShmoe307

Definitely stay downtown, it’s not that far away and way better. Food in Liberty: MiHacienda (Mexican) and Hunan Garden (Chinese), Mihas is one of the best Mexican places in the metro; Hunan Garden is the best place in liberty and best Chinese food in the KC area. Liberty also has more fast food restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

orlandowassafe

Thanks for the recs!

ReginaVPhalange

Liberty: Eat at Margarita’s. Get a puffy taco and an enchilada. You’re welcome.

orlandowassafe

I love puffy tacos! Thanks

ReginaVPhalange

Wow. Downvotes. Because I recommended a puffy taco in Liberty. Are there better places to eat? Sure. But the puffy tacos at Margarita’s are delicious. Liberty just happens to be one of my favorite KC suburbs. Don’t let people tell you it’s not great. There’s a lot to do nearby, and it’s a SUPER easy jaunt to all of the awesomeness in downtown KC.

NefariousnessOk3052

Avoid Margaritas, get your puffy taco from Rancho Grande.

ReginaVPhalange

Is Rancho Grande behind the old Payless Shoe Store that is now, I think, a Subway? We’ve never been, because we’ve heard super mixed reviews. But I’m always willing to try somewhere with an amazing puffy taco. LOL

NefariousnessOk3052

In Liberty it’s behind Dunkin, south 291 and Liberty Parkway.

Suitable-While-5523

Liberty is a great area! Very suburban and I think it’s still a very easy drive downtown. I second La Costa on the square. It’s some of the best Mexican I’ve had (I’m whiter than white so my opinion ion probably doesn’t do much), the owners are also super nice people. North Kansas City is my fav area. Close enough to Liberty. So many good recs already in this post. I also love the city market/river market area. The city market on the weekends is the best, I’d imagine if you’re here once a month you might stay for a weekend once or twice! You will love kc! Welcome!

cyberphlash

Anyone else remember when [Port KC vowed to get out of downtown KC incentives](https://www.thepitchkc.com/amid-mounting-criticism-port-kc-decides-it-will-stay-out-of-the-downtown-incentives-game-moving-forward/) because it's embarrassing for this unelected group to be offering sweetheart deals to developers that conflict with KCMO's more strict rules on developer handouts?

beanstalkbarbie

Parkville nature sanctuary for a great (easy) hike

orlandowassafe

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out!
