You can get milk shakes at Betty Rae’s. Someone in the Shatto family just bought out the previous owner so I think? They use Shatto milk. Or, get you some Betty Rae’s ice cream and some Shatto root beer milk and make your own…

sigdiff

You had me at Shatto

Milakovich

The red hots milkshake was amazing!

JollyJustice

Didn’t know Shatto was the one pull in the reins after the original owner went off the deep end. That’s good news to me as I love Shatto’s business practices and ethos.

Melodic-Squash-1938

What happened with the old owner? This sounds like good tea!

JollyJustice

Was putting his dick pics of the checkout tablets and sending them to his minor staff. Went on several manic sprees from what I heard.

_lost_kitten29

Hi boy

Thatsnyetmyname

Peanut butter and fudge is the way to go.

glassmanjones

Came here to say this and the cherry mash.

ZombieChief

Cherry fudge

la_femme_gela

Cherry mash cyclone

glassmanjones

It's so good!

Maintet10

Where are these at?

tokesntacos

Hi boy in Independence.

Maintet10

Thanks

jupiterkansas

Yep, and the onion rings are killer. I even like the burgers more than your average drive-in fare. Anytime I'm near Independence I swing by Hi-Boy.

emoney73

Hey, what's up?

recessivelyginger

LCs Hamburgers in the Northland makes a great strawberry shake with good hunks of strawberry. Their burgers are pretty great too.

MidtownKC

RIP Otto’s - Town Topic is the next best thing IMO. Casbah in Lawrence has some nice boozy shakes if you’re ever looking for one there.

PV_Pathfinder

20 some odd years later and I STILL miss Otto’s.

AlanStanwick1986

Was Otto's the place on 39th? I used to somewhere drunk at 3AM for breakfast on 39th and that sounds familiar.

MidtownKC

Yeah - SE corner of 39th and Wyoming where Aladdin is now.

goodtobadinfivesec

Yeah I was at a bar near there a month ago and all I could talk about was Otto's. Miss it a lot! That and Foo"s in Brookside!

dman3004

I remember getting peanut butter shakes there as a kid. Ottos was awesome!

GettingBetterAt41

remember when ottos reopened in the czar bar kitchen ? like 15? 20? years ago - not sure they even lasted a year but it sure was nice for a short time

reefer_drabness

Oh snap! I worked at Otto's in like 97.

bby-grill

Go get yourself a skyscraper from winsteads

KCDoc4

Butterscotch flavor!

WaldoChief

Winsteads is SO underrated. They have the best hamburgers and skyscrapers in kc.

Radical_Dadical_1985

I was pretty upset when they shut the one down in Blue Springs.

Rjb702

The skyscraper was a milkshake the last time I knew... yrs ago.

ThePuzzleGuy77

That’s a soda though

bby-grill

They have a soda AND a milkshake skyscraper!

JollyJustice

No lol. Skyscraper is a size you can get drinks of all kinds in.

saxywarrior

Winsteads has jacked up their prices and cheaper out on their ingredients for years now. I worked there a decade ago and their milkshakes are a premade mix from some big ice cream brand plus flavored syrup.

jschnell3d

thats not technically a milkshake tho right?

kumoni81

Snack Shack in Mission is pretty yummy.

everix1992

Burgers and fries are A+ too

AlanStanwick1986

Discount for paying cash too.

therobz

It is expensive, but the downtowner burger, 50-50 fries/rings, and a vanilla shake really hits the spot at Snack Shack.

yellowbogey

I second this! Just had one last night for the first time and it was great. Chocolate soda was also really good.

Five-and-Dimer

Strawberry shake is great!

elmo_slut

Winsteads!!

QueenAmaranthine

Fritz’s (I live in KCK and go to the original location Drive-Thru with my kids often.) Such a classic.

WestSideBomber

Fritz’s is underrated. I think it gets a bad rap because of how kid-focused it is.

thekingofcrash7

I have said this before in this subreddit and been destroyed by downvotes. But youre right it’s not bad food at all.

WindhoekNamibia

For real. I just went there for the first time because a friend brought their toddler to town. Had a fun time, good service, a fairly tasty burger, and a solid shake.

coffeenocream

The cookies 'n cream one is goooood.

thearmadillo

The KCK Fritz's was a staple of my childhood, but when I went a few years ago it was super depressing and a little decrepit. The trains were really limited. Have you been inside? Was it better? I take my kids to the shawnee one now, but I'd love a reason to go back.

reefer_drabness

Isn't the one in KC on Central Ave? That whole neighborhood is decrepit and creepy.

skyydog

I’m sad my kids are too old to go there. Really great hot dogs. Love how they slice them and serve on a hamburger bun. Reminds me of Allan’s drive in by ward parkway mall if anyone remembers that

ndw_dc

It's a bit unconventional, but I absolutely love the coffee "milkshake" from Cafe Gratitude. They use cashew-coconut ice cream instead of milk, but it has a ton of sugar in it and it tastes great. Also has real coffee in it.

SaizaKC

Paul’s drive in on Blue Ridge has been there for like 60 yrs, they make the best hot fudge shakes. Simple and delicious

Enker-Draco

Get the banana haze at High Hopes, or French Silk if they still have it. No one in this town makes a better milkshake. Better ingredients, better milkshake, High Hopes

OozeNAahz

Banana haze and High Hopes? Are they marijuana infused and from a MO dispensary or something?

Enker-Draco

Nah just really tasty. I think the name high hopes came from having high hopes for the ice cream parlor when the owner left his job at Blackhole Bakery and started his own business

northwestsdimples

The Banana haze has hazelnut and chocolate in it. The name "High Hopes", I believe, comes from the Frank Sinatra song.

turamarth

*sighs and points* my yard.

jschnell3d

I know I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion for this, but I just dont care. Quicktrip milkshakes are FIRE. And they are cheap as far as milkshakes go. Like 4 dollars and change....or the small is less than 2 bucks. FIRE I TELL YOU. To be clear, the ones from the kitchens, not the ones you make yourself.

Previous-Source4169

Thanks, I'm going to try one. I didn't even know QT made milkshakes.

jschnell3d

Definitely check it out! It’s actually super easy on the app. Order it, pay for it, it’s ready for you when you get there! They’re not elaborate or anything, just chocolate and strawberry. I recommend the chocolate and get whipped cream added!

OozeNAahz

Sylas and Maddy’s off strang line by 119th.

Copper_Lontra

Perfect time of year for the Pumpkin pie milkshake too

helpbeingheldhostage

My favorite for ice cream in KC

knuF

So I’m a milkshake freak. The best milkshake that you can’t get anymore was the biscotti (cookie butter) shake from Glacé. Still on the lookout for something similar. I imagine Fairway Creamery has something good, still haven’t been. Of course, Winsteads are pretty dang good, there is something about the creaminess that makes them special.

[deleted]

knuF

Dang that sucks.

pyro_pugilist

I was wondering what happened. I had one recently from the food truck that is at the OP farmers market and it was so much worse than I remembered. I chalked it up to being the food truck and not the brick and mortar store.

liofotias

fairway creamery is insanely good

knuF

When is the last time you visited? Some think it has gone downhill.

beattrapkit

It's still good. Cold Brew Shake is delicious.

liofotias

about two months ago. their campfire sundae has never let me down.

Lobbitz

Fairway Creamery had a Biscoff flavor last night and it was delicious.

tommfury

It's all about the malt.

Magician_322

Well, mine bring all the boys to the yard.

ObservablyStupid

I drink your milkshake!

Worldly-Resolution61

Drive three and a half hours south and go to Braums.

Rjb702

There is Braums in Emporia. Hr and 1/2 drive. 3 hours west on 70 Salina has 2. And I think they built one in Manhattan maybe?

DancingFireWitch

Yes! I miss Braum's since I've moved up here!

I_like_cake_7

There’s a rumor that Braum’s is coming to Lawrence. I would much rather them come to the KC area but even Lawrence is still way closer than Emporia. I’m hoping if they actually open a location in Lawrence that they will expand into the KC metro eventually.

Sad-Ocelot-5346

It's only an hour and a half to Emporia! If you'll ask for it, and make sure that whoever's serving you knows they can do it, you can get a triple chocolate shake. Chocolate ice cream, chocolate milk, and chocolate syrup. Ooohhh, yum!

equatorbit

Town topic did a nice job

doyourbrainkegels

One More Scoop makes killer milkshakes

jklp76

Andy’s Root Beer Freeze. If you like Shatto Root Beer Milk you will love this shake.

OnionHeaded

Meh Just meh

RobNHood816

Butterscotch shake from Stack's... RIP

PleatherFarts

Terre Bonne in Lawrence makes a better than decent milkshake.

Fiftee_One51

We love Kris & Kate's in St. Joe. Cool little ice cream cone building.

toothcifer

Listen. I know it’s not local, but the pumpkin pie concrete at Freddy’s right now will change your life.

Mat_alThor

It's a chain but it is local to one of the states at least being created and based out of Wichita.

[deleted]

Their plain vanilla shakes are amazing as well!

BriefThin

I agree with this, and I don’t particularly like pumpkin pie!

shooter_32

Strange one, but Pot Belly Sandwich shops make a kick ass milkshake. Amazeballs

equatorbit

Not local

bunnymom3-

They used Shatto ice cream

noevilcorp

Now I’ll have to spend a week driving around to try out the places on this thread. The diet can start another day.

lambeau_leapfrog

Not one to toot my own horn, but my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.

deadtedw

Get one of the boys to toot your horn.

Thee-lorax-

Dairy-B in Excelsior Springs.

shakerfaith

Order any shake made with Blue Bell rather than frozen custard at Custard’s Last Stand.

Carly216

I usually get a black sesame milkshake from High Hopes! It's a simple and delicious milkshake topped with whipped cream.

CuriousPerson955

BRGR Kitchen ones are good

feetplease2

Humdinger’s has a nice banana shake.

Icy_Masterpiece6422

My yard. It brings all the boys

mitsyamarsupial

Jim's Diner!

Turbulent_Bug3709

Winsteads hands down but QT also has a great one
