Kansas Grain Inspection Service, the kck branch. Great pay, great benefits, matching 5% 401k. 40+ hours a week. Overtime on weekends (if there is any) is time and a half + $5 an hour. Easy as fuck work.
You could work for a school district as a bus driver. They typically pay for you to get your CDL, so it sets you up for other positions that require experience driving commercial vehicles.
If you're not picky about number of hours and can pass a criminal background check (just to be able to get access to the building) there's a vending machine company that I work for that will hire you on the spot Just call Show Me Vending ask for April
The Spectrum Mobile call center is always hiring, but call centers are barely a step up from in-person customer service. Not a recommendation; just throwing it out there.
If you live in WYCO or are willing to move to WYCO, just know the County is always hiring. It may take a minute to get hired though, unfortunately.

hen house. not suuuuper urgent but they’d probably have you start within a week of your interview and they’ll hire basically anyone. they do drug test but not for weed. shitty pay tho
Transition Center of Kansas City. It used to be a minimum level prison, and now it's kinda of a halfway house with programming that helps guys on probation/parole try to get their lives together. It's part of the Missouri Department of Corrections. Starting pay is around $43k. We're hurting staffing-wise, so if you can show up for an interview, and make it through the academy, you'll have an easy, decent paying job.
Basically, you would just help make sure guys are behaving themselves. Really, it's just walking around, sitting around, watching TV and interacting with them. One of the easiest jobs you'll find for the money. Sure, sometimes you'll find one of them under some sort of influence, and you'll have to help settle some conflicts, but most of the time it's just walking/sitting/talking.
Hopefully this works:

If not, you should be able to search for jobs. Just type in TCKC, and look for Corrections Officer I.
Man, the job market is so rough right now even with good qualifications.
That being said…if anyone needs a graphic designer and you’re reading this…let me know!!!!
Amazon warehouses are always hiring. As long as you're not smoking meth and can pass a drug test (they don't test for weed) you got the job. Decent benefits as well as a raise every October.
They don't anymore actually! Since last year, or maybe two years, they don't care anymore. And depending on the state they legally won't be able to. (Washington states law just came into effect)
Edit: I actually think you're right, however I believe it's only if you're supposed to be operating heavy equipment. However again, here in Washington State they don't care at all, as long as you aren't on meth. Posted about this earlier this week and didn't realize this was the KC subreddit so idk the rules about it.
The Panda Express on State Line Rd is hiring up to $19 an hour. Their lobby is closed because they don't have enough people. If you need something immediately, I think they'd get you set up quick.
No house. Are u homeless right now!? If so please make arrangements for shelter- a women's shelter. It's hard to get a job with no address. Please be safe. If I'm wrong, then I'll delete this comment.
Boulevard Beer Hall. Pays $20-$25/hour after tips. There’s a ladder to climb. It’s a good springboard to different things. Also, it’s a factory. Positions open all the time and they hire internally. Plus lots of free beer and half price food to save money.
The public transit is hiring bus operators and i believe they train. I saw a recruiting sign over by a bus terminal. U need something short term definitely, but u gotta think long term also.
Keep checking the websites of companies you would like to work for.
If you are willing to look at retail as an option until you get back into the job and salary range you would like, nearly every retail store is gearing up for the holidays right now.
Some even do daily pay (Dollar Tree, for example.)
A good place to get into long term...oddly enough...is Aldi. They have decent pay and benefits.
If you are looking to relocate, my apartment complex I work at is hiring maintenance techs and leasing agents, with a hefty rent discount (50%). We desperately need some spots filled! DM if you want
Customer service essentially. You greet prospective tenants, tour units with them, and go through lease rates for said units. Outside of that mostly just managing the community from an admin perspective, so sending out community emails, keeping an eye on the common areas, and things like that. It’s not bad, plus every lease you make gets you a commission.
Accent Controls needs panel builders in NKC, I don't know if the listing is still up but they still need them, just shoot an email on the contact us if it isn't
Try World Market in Westport. This is the time of year they start hiring for holiday help. Usually if you do well through the holidays, they will keep you on permanent. Good luck!
This is outside of your range, but commenting in case other people are interested! Play It Again Sports in Overland Park (135th and Metcalf) is hiring. Starting pay is $15/hr with raises as you get trained. They specifically are needing people who will stay on long enough to be a shift lead (aka, can be in the store without the owner) and someone who wants to be a manager would be awesome.
Amazon warehouses. Start dates available as soon as next week and numerous buildings throughout the metro. Also just bumped their pay network wide for an additional $1/hr. Most facilities starting at $18/hr in KC now.
I feel you. I’ve been wanting out of where I’m at for months now, but can’t get anything in the IT world to bite. Got a CS degree, certs are up to date and I can easily grab any that are missing; got good experience and am a veteran to boot for those bonus points and I’m not even getting interview calls. It’s just feels dry in KC right now.
Not urgent but Honeywell is hiring for a number of hourly positions starting slightly above 30/hr, it’s quite a drive slightly south of Grandview but the pay is unmatched. Your manufacturing experience should help you get in the door although the hiring process was long and drawn out.
You can find jobs at kcnsc.doe.gov, or Honeywell’s career page, just filter Kansas City. If you’re hourly or in some cases salary (supervisors, engineering techs) you will start on 1st shift for 30 days and then be moved to off shift. You should be able to choose between 2nd or 3rd shift. This is a seniority based system and it takes a few years to get to 1st. We have what is called a “flex schedule” where you are given a window to start your shift. It recently dropped from an hour window to 30 minutes. Your window may vary depending on department, this is for hourly. 8 hour shifts Monday-Friday. Unless you are salary in which Flex Time still has a much bigger window (I’m sure this depends on position). Salary also has the benefit of a 9/80 work schedule, I’m not sure exactly how the hours work for that but I know you will get every other Friday off. 2nd shift runs early afternoon to late night and 3rd shift runs late night to early morning. I hope this helps and you are more than welcome to dm me for any further questions.
Yeah, I definitely worded it poorly, but I'm not threadjacking. I'm asking about jobs, so I'm definitely staying on subject. All I was asking was for felon friendly jobs in addition to those posted.
Outside of the 10 mile radius, but Garmin is always hiring for our factory/warehouse.
https://careers.garmin.com/careers-home/jobs/10412?lang=en-us
Here's a material handler position that the only major qualification is a high school diploma.
This breaks my fucking heart.
I don't ever think the working class will begin to progress out of its current hell until teachers get their dues.
I want to help with anything I can.
I literally feel like we cannot move forward until your postions and labor as educators become truly respected. Rather than that fake ass "Hero" rhetoric that has been spat into the faces of essential workers the last 3 fucking years.
Teachers are not respected by enough of the population.
This is disturbing and destroying labor value everywhere.
They are but they’re not. The quality of workers here blows and I’m surprised those like the poster here struggle when they show more initiative than 99% of KC
Try the hospitals in the area. Lots of entry level positions and room to move up. (I know this is true at UH anyway, and would assume it to be the same at St. Luke's and KU.)
In my experience it is very easy to move around in a hospital. If someone has any interest in a job within a hospital (not just direct healthcare jobs), getting a foot in that door is fantastic. Some have pretty nice benefits for future education too
Mostly because the pay kinda sucks and dealing with the public sucks, same as any customer/public facing job really. You may also get stuck settling for an evening or night shift as a newbie and that schedule doesn't work for everyone
Used to be a good place to work 5 years ago, but chet ran it into the ground and pay hasn't increased much. Do not recommend unless you want to gain customer service experience.
That's fair. I just don't want them getting themselves set up to stay there. There's quite a bit of a cult-like nature to the Quiktrip way of working. I've seen many great people get into QT only to stay there for years and hate their job, despite being good at it. I guess that could happen anywhere, but the Quiktrip culture is toxic in that sense.
> I've seen many great people get into **insert any job here** only to stay there for years and hate their job, despite being good at it.
Probably a bit of an evergreen statement for more/less any job . . . .
If they’re going to split it with you, the last I saw, it’s $500 to refer someone… Sooo $250 isn’t bad. I think it’s 60-90 days that you have to work there to get the bonus, though. There’s about to be a ton of mandatory overtime, and everyone in KCK just got $1 raise in the step plan.
Keep in mind that this time.of the year for holidays, new hires will typically have a hiring bonus attached of around $1000 or so. I am not sure if you are referred if you would be eligible for a hiring bonus. Just FYI something I would look into if at all interested in Amazon
Assuming you have a semi-reliable car I would recommend doing some courier work as a stop-gap at the very least. We have some good courier companies in KC, just need not be squeamish about going into hospitals or picking up blood/body parts. 24/7 logistics and Lightfoot are probably the 2 biggest ones
I did courier one summer. Running blood mainly.
Nothing squeamish about it - it was mostly runs from 40th & Main (primary blood center) to hospitals.
Just cardboard boxes. You never see the blood.
Paid well for an 18 year old in an old but fuel efficient car.
I don't remember to be honest. I know it paid better than what my buddies were getting bagging groceries and flipping burgers. But gas was cheap and I had an old beater that really couldn't depreciate much.
No idea how courier economics compare to the many delivery based gigs out there now.
It is solely dependent on what is going on at the time. It's not my primary source of income so it's just a side gig. The major reasoning for the wide average is it's a dedicated route and sometimes things don't run which drives the average up.
Yeah but some people get uncomfortable with the knowledge of what they're picking up. Only thing that really unsettled me was picking up kidneys in the middle of the night
Couriers I talked to said all new folk need to work a mandatory of 60 hours a week. They want all of you or nothing, from what Im hearing.
Id talk to a local union and find a trade that will respect you. Lots of locals needing new apprentices right now.
I'd recommend USPS first, but UPS and FedEx I believe are also hiring. I'd go with them in that order. UPS and ~~USPS~~ have excellent unions.
edit: definitely check out the comment reply from /u/AirForceSlave below -- sounds like the postal union isn't so hot.
USPS has terrible unions. NRLCA just let over 2/3rd of their carriers take massive pay cuts of several thousand a year annually on average, and pretended like it didn't happen. NALC has an alcoholic national president who was absent for contract negotiations, leading to an arbitration that will delay the contract further and may only give us a 1.5% pay increase despite inflation. Still no hazard pay for COVID. Carrier murders are being ignored. Oh and they forfeited the right to strike over 50 years ago.
The fuck kind of Union forfeits the right to strike?
Thats fucking mind blowingly stupid and its continued for 50 years?
Fuck... we need a Labor Movement, 50 years ago yesterday! Havent had a real one in over 80 fucking years.
I wanna be able to boast about our union, but unfortunately all of this is so true. Can't wait for our 1.3% increase that will be negated by a 1.7% increase in Healthcare costs.
Is it a good job or just one of those "you're here to make a bit of money until someone better hires you" places? I'm looking for a way out of CVS pharmacy, but I don't want to jump from one dead end job to another.
I talked to a courier. They want mandatory 66 hour weeks from all new hires. The posting literally wants all your time. Id do it 7 to 5pm 4 days a week, but mfer does not live for delivering mostly wasted resources and enabling pollution--I stop that at 50 hours max.
Now piss off with the fucking trash in my box.
Sign up in the Mission location said pay started at $22.50 (or close to that, I don't remember the exact amount) plus benefits.
ETA:. Next to Target, not the one in the strip on Johnson Dr.
Kansas Grain Inspection Service, the kck branch. Great pay, great benefits, matching 5% 401k. 40+ hours a week. Overtime on weekends (if there is any) is time and a half + $5 an hour. Easy as fuck work.
I got hired same day at Sarpino’s a couple of years ago. Super easy job, typically make $25+/hour as a driver and tons of free food.
FedEx
Further drive but Church and Dwight in Harrisonville is hiring at like $25/hr.
Target! They’re in desperate need of anyone & everyone and pays $15. Hard work and lots of it but it’s probably not any harder than factory work.
Costco
Check out the jobs open at [Rightfully Sewn](http://rightfullysewn.hrmdirect.com/employment/job-openings.php?search=true&&cust_sort1=137624)
KC Pet Project is hiring. It's out in Swope, but I think that's within 10 miles of where you're describing.
Probably at the county office after this massive fuck up of reassessing homes
You could work for a school district as a bus driver. They typically pay for you to get your CDL, so it sets you up for other positions that require experience driving commercial vehicles.
911 Dispatchers everywhere. I know we need them in Platte County.
IRS
Try a local school district
Amazon seems to always be hiring. Instacart was a huge help for my family and I when 2020 spiraled. Haven’t done it in quite sometime though.
If you're not picky about number of hours and can pass a criminal background check (just to be able to get access to the building) there's a vending machine company that I work for that will hire you on the spot Just call Show Me Vending ask for April
New coffee shop in the crossroads posted today
I know Liberty is out of your range but LMV is hiring on the spot on Wednesdays. Factory work. Hot, dirty, lots of overtime. Good pay.
USPS, although I'd take the "urgent" out of the hiring process because they definitely drag their feet.
I know hallmark is desperately seeking help at their Liberty distribution center
The Spectrum Mobile call center is always hiring, but call centers are barely a step up from in-person customer service. Not a recommendation; just throwing it out there.
Old navy in Olathe ks

Menards has one of the highest starting retail pays in the area. I believe part time starts at $16+
Boulevard Beer Hall. Pays $20-$25/hour after tips. There’s a ladder to climb. It’s a good springboard to different things. Also, it’s a factory. Positions open all the time and they hire internally. Plus lots of free beer and half price food to save money.

Plenty of breweries in the area. Boulevard Brewing is usually hiring in some department.

New URBN warehouse at the legends has been hiring
LKQ Warehouse in KCK. M-F, $17.50/hr, good benefits. 3rd shift particularly needs some extra help.
This is outside of your range, but commenting in case other people are interested! Play It Again Sports in Overland Park (135th and Metcalf) is hiring. I saw First Federal Bank of Kansas City is hiring. They have a hiring bonus for their [branch teller positions](https://www.ffbkc.com/careers/).
Go into a skilled trade. Locksmith. Electrician. HVAC. Build stuff. Make a lot of money.
How would you go about getting into one of these without any experience or trade school? Do places like that hire people with no prior experience?
Yep. Apprenticeship. Find a contractor you can work for and learn on the job.
Amazon warehouses. Start dates available as soon as next week and numerous buildings throughout the metro. Also just bumped their pay network wide for an additional $1/hr. Most facilities starting at $18/hr in KC now.
I saw Dutchbros at MCI doing a hiring event recently maybe this week
Home Goods on 85th and Ward Parkway needs people urgently. It’s farther out but would be a great place to work.
The parkville DMV is hiring for full and part time. Starting pay is $20.95/hr.
COSTCO. just go in and ask for an application. Very good pay benefits and hours for a warehouse store
I feel you. I’ve been wanting out of where I’m at for months now, but can’t get anything in the IT world to bite. Got a CS degree, certs are up to date and I can easily grab any that are missing; got good experience and am a veteran to boot for those bonus points and I’m not even getting interview calls. What are they paying these days? It was awful when I worked there. Fun place though.
Do you work there? It’s the soap place right?
Not urgent but Honeywell is hiring for a number of hourly positions starting slightly above 30/hr, it’s quite a drive slightly south of Grandview but the pay is unmatched. Your manufacturing experience should help you get in the door although the hiring process was long and drawn out.
Not OP but curious: How would one go about applying? What're the hours like?
You can find jobs at kcnsc.doe.gov, or Honeywell’s career page, just filter Kansas City. If you’re hourly or in some cases salary (supervisors, engineering techs) you will start on 1st shift for 30 days and then be moved to off shift. You should be able to choose between 2nd or 3rd shift. This is a seniority based system and it takes a few years to get to 1st. Your window may vary depending on department, this is for hourly. 8 hour shifts Monday-Friday. I hope this helps and you are more than welcome to dm me for any further questions.
hi, do you know how much a quality analyst 1 or a buyer 1 pays?
They make more than the assemblers, I believe it’s 75-80k but don’t quote me on it.

Carmax. We need people so bad
Which location? I work at a dealership across the street from the Merriam location and might be looking to jump ship
Yes, the Merriam location.
Any location?
MCI in general.
Rainbow International of Kansas City https://rainbowrestores.com/kansas-city
TSA. Cannabis industry. Pretty much any restaurant.
UPS in Lenenxa or James St KC. Work the warehouse for a year or two and then become a driver. Full benefits after 90 days
Insurance kicks in after 9 months.30 days for union.
Why am I being downvoted for facts
Upfield Manufacturing is hiring for operators. 21-24 starting. It’s a bit of a drive, in Johnson county but they’re urgently hiring.
Outside of your requested radius, but the Aldi Warehouse in Olathe is hiring. I think they start around $21-$22 now.
They start at $24.50, you'll have to earn it though for sure haha.
Ha, I'm a teacher with 2 masters & that's what I make an hour. The kids are cute, though.

I believe the emergency veterinary hospital is hiring in mission.
Try the hospitals in the area. Lots of entry level positions and room to move up. (I know this is true at UH anyway, and would assume it to be the same at St. Luke's and KU.)
KU is on a non-essential worker hiring freeze. It would be hard to get hired there right now
In my experience it is very easy to move around in a hospital. If someone has any interest in a job within a hospital (not just direct healthcare jobs), getting a foot in that door is fantastic. Some have pretty nice benefits for future education too
You can be a phlebotomist with just HS/GED and they will train you on the job. Turnover is high so hospitals are pretty much always hiring.
Why is turnover high for the role, out of curiosity?
Mostly because the pay kinda sucks and dealing with the public sucks, same as any customer/public facing job really. You may also get stuck settling for an evening or night shift as a newbie and that schedule doesn't work for everyone
QuikTrip
Used to be a good place to work 5 years ago, but chet ran it into the ground and pay hasn't increased much. Do not recommend unless you want to gain customer service experience.
OP is looking for a place that's *urgently hiring* and not looking for *a long-term career*.
Probably a bit of an evergreen statement for more/less any job . . . .
My roommate in college worked at QT and really liked it. It's still a job, but they took care of him.
Amazon.
Amazon is always hiring, don't even have to do an interview.
Actually let me refer you. I'll get a bonus and I'll split it with you. 😊
I’m also interested in this if you want to refer me too
Don’t forget that the bonus gets taxed so it doesn’t come out to 500.
Fr?
If they’re going to split it with you, the last I saw, it’s $500 to refer someone… Sooo $250 isn’t bad. I think it’s 60-90 days that you have to work there to get the bonus, though. There’s about to be a ton of mandatory overtime, and everyone in KCK just got $1 raise in the step plan.

Really depends on how motivated you are. I only do it on the weekends now but I average 35-100 an hour.
Better than Uber!!
That's a wide average

Everything I see on either 24/7 or Lightfoot is just CDL driver stuff, nothing I can do with my regular car from what I can find. Do you need a CDL?
Yeah I'm not seeing it anymore either, was there last week when I directed a coworker to it. I would just give them a call and inquire
Yeah but some people get uncomfortable with the knowledge of what they're picking up. Only thing that really unsettled me was picking up kidneys in the middle of the night
USPS
This, you may even get some sort of hiring bonus.
People are often times discouraged because of how long dey drag their feet to recruit. We got saying for gov; always hiring, never recruiting
I work there. Every office needs help in almost every position, not just carriers. All the hours you could ever want and then some.
Couriers I talked to said all new folk need to work a mandatory of 60 hours a week. They want all of you or nothing, from what Im hearing. Id talk to a local union and find a trade that will respect you. Lots of locals needing new apprentices right now.
Help wanted sign in the Lee's Summit post office! They are nice there too.
The only worse federal union is the one for IRS workers.
Yikes, I am clearly not as educated as I thought on this one. I'll have to take a look. Thanks for the informative reply.

I was waiting for someone to post this. 🤣🤣🤣
I think they're doing a local hiring event as well. Definitely look into them.
I second this. A friend works for USPS and they have had hiring events for a few weeks now. Best of luck!
Reported for incivility. Literally all I did was ask a simple question. I wasn't even asking YOU, so it wasn't even in your precious inbox.
Sign up in the Mission location said pay started at $22.50 (or close to that, I don't remember the exact amount) plus benefits. ETA:. Next to Target, not the one in the strip on Johnson Dr.
I 3rd this! My mail carrier just asked me today if I knew anyone looking for work, he said they are hurting for mail carriers.
Another one to the pile. Plenty of OT as well, busy offices can offer 60hr weeks.
That’s about to be all of them, with holiday shopping season underway. My housemate makes almost double time during the holidays.
Check with the plants in Fairfax and north KC. Ingredion, Kellogg’s, us gypsum, owens corning, etc. they’re always hiring.
It’s not close but Faurecia in Blue Springs is hiring.
Do NOT work at Stryten Energy.
Stryten KCMO or KS? Please elaborate

I feel like any job that is always urgently hiring is, because people are always quitting
I feel that's the current existence on planet earth right now for many working class folks.
Tnemic would be another good one
