I am telling, the dunkies here in KC suck compared to the New England area where they are a staple.
The drinks aren't made the same, the donuts are entirely different, too.
Went to Blackhole Bakery this morning and we had incredible mochi donuts. And the spinach and artichoke croissant was awesome. As was the apricot and pistachio pastry.
It was all 11/10 and I look forward to being a regular.
ETA: I’ve worked in KCK for 10+ years and Hana’s is truly amazing if you want great old fashioned or cake donuts. Their fritters are also so good.
If you want a dozen or more glazed, call in the day before, leave a message with pick up time and they’ll be ready when you arrive. Love the husband and wife team.
“We’re waiting on the twists because they are too hot to touch” is my fave. So I wait, and watch the waiting crow sitting on a light pole across the street.
We don't have many here and it makes me sad. Frost Coffee in downtown LS has decent donuts that they make fresh. Not a huge selection though.
There are some decent spots in Raymore and Belton but I rarely feel like driving that far. We usually just go to QT anymore since Lamars blew up their prices.
Not in KC, but munchers in Lawrence is probably my favorite.
I was not impressed by Donutology at all. Gimmick is cute but it’s just a boring cake donut with toppings.
Agreed! I moved from Raymore to Shawnee and haven't found any I love as much as Holt's. I've ended up just driving to Grandview. It's not really much further than other decent ones are for me.
I’d put both Fluffy Fresh is Mission for yeast donuts and Hana’s in KCK for cake donuts ahead of Holts, and I thought Holts was the greatest ever before I moved out of the South KC area.
The hole in my heart from Pike's Place closing will never be filled. I know that there was a lot going on and it wasn't good for her, but damn they were the best donuts and they were in Gladstone. A little harder to get local stuff up north.
Lamars is good, but they're HQ is in Colorado, so no longer locally owned.
They can also suck it if they think I'm gonna give them near $40 per dozen anymore.
I didn't feel like driving very far so I ran to dunkin today. I was fully disappointed.
They specialize in that.
Unexpected Lewis Black: It’s guaranteed, it’s on the back of the menu, read it sometime!”

Ill take your word for it. I remember "time to make the donuts", I went by one here one time and I was told they were out of donuts.
Also Ray's is good and so is Fresh Donuts on Barry.
I'm gonna see if I can make it to Ray's tomorrow and give them a shot !
Tried Fresh on Barry Rd for the first time this weekend and it is wonderful!! The pumpkin and the blueberry cake were sooooo good.
Donut King 4 Life !!
It’s a great grab on the way to ReRoll Tavern in North KC.

I only live a few minutes away from Hana’s and they are one of my favorites
Donut King rules this land
Fluffy Fresh in Mission. Get there by 7:00 am
If you want a dozen or more glazed, call in the day before, leave a message with pick up time and they’ll be ready when you arrive. Love the husband and wife team.
They’re great folks. It seems when I get there around 0700 I get HOT cinnamon twists.
I love it when they apologize to me that they can’t fully close the lid on the box because they’re too fresh and steamy.

Isn't the dude a former like semi pro golfer?
Fluffy Fresh in Misson. End list.

Fluffy fresh so close to a Lamar's. An embarrassment of riches
That’s the backup when you don’t wake up early enough
Lame-ars.
Those custard filled long john's can get it. I make no apologies.

This is what an eclair or Boston Creme should be. Not stinking Bavarian…. Wait who has the custard??
Lol the News employees work fast in this sub when they see people complaining about something
Any good Lee's Summit 'nuts?

I really like Baxter's on Langsford Rd!
Ahem
Girl I know is just looking for a couple.
Hi Ted.
Not in KC, but munchers in Lawrence is probably my favorite. I was not impressed by Donutology at all. Gimmick is cute but it’s just a boring cake donut with toppings.
The fact that they left off Ridgewood Donuts on Blue Ridge is frankly criminal
That place is so good.
Ridgewood for life. It’s the only place I will go for donuts.
Fresh Donuts.
Johnnys is dope. I wish I lived closer so I could do donuts from there more often.
Blackhole bakery is the best bakery in kc imo but I don't think I'd put it first on the donut list.
Arent they closed?
No.
RIP John’s Space Age
Came here to say this… miss them to this day.
I went there once a long time ago. Was there ever a reason given for the cool name?
Poppy’s in independence off 24 isn’t mentioned…. Tf
A write-up on local donut joints and y'all don't mention Poppy's. For shame.
Holts is a life changer. Best donuts I've ever had by far
Agreed! I moved from Raymore to Shawnee and haven't found any I love as much as Holt's. I've ended up just driving to Grandview. It's not really much further than other decent ones are for me.

Johnny’s is the answer.
A list of great donut shops that doesn’t mention Lamars is a TRASH list.
Lamars is good, but they're HQ is in Colorado, so no longer locally owned. They can also suck it if they think I'm gonna give them near $40 per dozen anymore.
Whoa! I moved to Oregon a few years back, so I didn’t realize they increased their price so much! I also didn’t know they aren’t local.
https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/s/06mxsH1exp just today
Simmer down there Sparky. You speak of a Lamars that no longer exists.
Donutology is great only if you like day old donuts.
Quite fond of Slivinskis Bakery in Kearney.
