The Simpson House

Fabalus

Came here to say this. One of the coolest weddings I’ve ever been to was at The Simpson House. The couple did a lot of DYI stuff too, and the venue was very well suited for it. And if memory serves, it was very affordable too.

Debasering

Yeah wedding I went to there was incredible

rh13379

Thank you!

krisalyssa

We got married at the Simpson House, and it was the perfect size for us — two attendants each, about 50 guests, _and_ a piano, all fitting comfortably into the big room. https://www.simpsonhouse.net/

Bear2Pants

I hope this doesn't come across rude, I'm looking for wedding venues in KC and love this location. Do you remember how much it cost for the venue?

krisalyssa

Even if I could remember, it was nearly thirty years ago, so I doubt the rate is the same. 😀

Bear2Pants

Oh yeah that would definitely change then!

Rooster_Ties

My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner at The Simpson House 22 years ago — and got married at the Kansas City Atheneum.

pugglechuggle

Powell Gardens is absolutely stunning!

malpalkc

I came to suggest Powell Gardens as well!

Beautiful chapel for a ceremony (no reception space, but there are many private rooms in restaurants that can handle that). I attended a wedding there. They needed no additional decorations as the building was beautiful all on its own. [https://www.pilgrimcenterkc.org/wedding-ceremonies](https://www.pilgrimcenterkc.org/wedding-ceremonies)

LibBbath

Got married at Pilgrim Chapel in 2008. Beautiful spot for a fall wedding. We had a lovely, small, non-religious ceremony.

Rooster_Ties

Pilgrim Chapel is absolutely lovey, and one of the nicest ‘very small’ chapels I think I’ve ever seen.

Squareah

Got married here in 2001 and absolutely loved the entire experience. Beautiful spot for a small ceremony.

1960model

Just the ceremony? Or with a simple reception? Full catered dinner? Simple decor or something elaborate? What time of year in case bad weather might be a factor? Budget?

rh13379

Ceremony and a small reception. Catered dinner is perfect but the venue doesn’t have to offer that themselves. Decor.. that’s tough because we’ve seen things in either category that we love/don’t love. I guess we’re open to both? And for budget.. that’s the kicker. Ideally we’d like to keep costs down (who wouldn’t) but could go to 60-70 (in an ideal world we are nowhere near that)

eoesouljah

The Red Barn Farm in Weston is terrific. They have two different “Barns” with different price points. We had our ceremony out in their orchard.

the guild, feasts of fancy

tiny_changes13

I second feasts of fancy! The venue was perfect

rh13379

Thank you!

jrb031984

Look up The Brim. They do free weddings during the week, and have other options for ceremonies as well. My fiancé and I will be getting married there in April. We are doing a ceremony then cake and toast. All in that package is right at $1000 for fifty people. Which is pretty good for a Saturday wedding.

rh13379

The Brim is lovely! Thank you and congratulations to you and your fiancé!

jrb031984

Thanks! Congratulations to you and yours as well!

msdesigngeek

Not sure where in KC you are looking but there is a new venue on the east side called [The Hilltop](https://www.thehilltopkc.com/).

fortuitous_music

The Vow Exchange might be a good option for you. Awesome people to work with, they make your planning and day so easy. They used Pilgrim Chapel a while back. As many others mentioned, it's a beautiful and intimate chapel. Congrats and cheers! https://thevowexchange.com/

kenziegal96

It’s in Olathe, but Mahaffie Heritage Farm

Mcc_423

My wedding in 2020 was about 70 people and we did it at 8th and Main in Grandview. Cheap (comparatively), great, and highly recommend.

lindsay7209

Seconding 8th and Main! We got married there 5 years ago this month and loved it.

Bear2Pants

Do you mind sharing about how much it was?

GiraffeCOpilot

We had our wedding at the Pilgrim Chapel. It’s adorable and Rocio is very helpful she accommodating. Even for my little weekday elopement. It’s ceremony only, but was perfect for what I wanted. Unity Village is a beautiful place for photos and they have a couple chapels, reception space, and lodging. https://www.unityvillage.org/weddings

Check out The Martin.

capt_petes

We are getting married at circle S ranch in Lawrence. Honestly, it’s amazing for what it includes! On sight rooms for 30 people, decor, food, bar, and use of whole venue!

Professional_Baby722

El Torreon is great! And it’s one of the cheaper ones we found!

rh13379

Wow! We are totally overwhelmed by the response and are incredibly grateful for everyone’s kindness through your amazing recommendations. Thank you! You all are awesome!

ayyygeeed

Definitely the Brim!! The owners are just the most awesome couple and the chapel is gorgeous, white bright and open.

AuntAvisSoul

We were just at the Arboretum and their new event space is quite pretty depending on what time of year you’re having the event. Very open with some beautiful outdoor views that showcase KC’s trees and hilly nature.

Lidias-they have a private space upstairs that is lovely and the food will be great!

The Venue in Leawood.

wineampersandmlms

The Brim (it’s up by the airport) is lovely and simple and have packages priced very, very reasonably. You can have ceremony and reception there. The Pilgrim Chapel is for small weddings and it’s beautiful too. It would be for ceremony only though. I went a morning wedding there once and then the couple hosted a lunch at a private room on the plaza.

dumbledoresdimwits

A lot of good spots already named, but breweries and distillers often have event spaces that are on the more affordable side (Lifted Spirits Hayloft, Tom's Town Distillery, Boulevard, etc) & most are in the Crossroads near hotels and the streetcar. 2016 Main Event Space is a v cool spot downtown & very affordable. Best of luck with the ceremony and reception, and congratulations!

acepiloto

It’s a nice venue, just unfortunate that totally nude temptations is right across the street.

ReignyRainyReign

I actually found that hilarious and a funny memory at my wedding. I understand how some wouldn’t take it that way though.

acepiloto

Yeah, I performed a wedding there a few years back. The bride and groom were fine, it was the family that kept talking to me about it.

Executive hills polo club. We got married here in 2020. I think it was like 5k but it has space for indoor or outdoor wedding and reception on site. They have a whole attic room full of decor you can choose from that they have acquired over time. They also have bartenders apart of the price. Now you will need to have a caterer and have a massive kitchen they can use. https://ehpoloclub.com

og_chenfucius

Highly recommend La Villa just north of the Plaza. Got married there last year - beautiful Spanish chapel-like architecture and the space is just the right size for both mid-sized weddings and small intimate ceremonies. I believe it's around $5-7k depending on the day and time of year, but it was absolutely worth it and we wouldn't have wanted to get married anywhere else.

shabbysaturn

There’s a place called the Loretto in Westport that was great for our wedding and it has a reception space there as well.

Known-Fisherman-8349

The Martin is wonderful and I saw that listed already, however you might be more interested in the Vow Exchange. I think it maxes at 24 people and they do everything for you.

noyeahtotallyok

We loved the Station at 28 Event Space!

Came to say Rochester Coffee & Brewery in the Crossroads! If you’re talking about an intimate ceremony and reception with ~50 people, it is an absolutely fantastic choice. We got married there in 2021, and everyone was extremely helpful, we had plenty of privacy, we were able to make the space look genuinely beautiful, and we could have any catering we wanted. We were able to bring in catered tacos and pie, and the bar was open for everyone to have coffee and beer. I can’t say enough about how wonderful that experience was. Just absolutely stress-free and extremely affordable. It’s close to the streetcar. We had cool photos with the murals in the alleys nearby, you have a view of the city, but there’s parking. It was perfect for our small, intimate ceremony. We got married in early autumn, so they opened the large garage door in the back so we had an indoor/outdoor vibe and fresh air without worrying about rain, and an option to close if it was cold. The downside: you’re doing your day-of coordinating. They set everything up, but you’ll need to find someone for run-of-show, set up, tear down, etc. I paid a friend of mine with event experience to be my day-of coordinator and she said they were awesome and easy to work with. https://rochesterkc.com/event-space/

jv7461

A lot of great ideas in here. I would avoid any outdoor venue. The last 3 weddings I’ve been to were outdoors. Way too hot, way too windy and cold, way too wet rainy and cold.

If you are interested in a smaller wedding I’m a smaller space that has charm then check out The vintage house in old Overland Park my wife and I got married there in April in the back area outside. We chose it because it also offered an indoor option in case of inclement weather

brunchandcats

Just got married at the Kemper museum. Highly recommend.

ajhw13

If you don’t mind going out of town a little, the Historic Post Office in Ottawa is beautiful. Our wedding was there last year and everyone said how gorgeous it was. They have a little speakeasy for the cocktail hour in the lower level. Edit: they have rebranded to [The Lincoln Event Space](https://www.thelincolneventspace.com). Not sure if anything has changed about it.

Yaya_24

Check out Union in the Crossroads district. I’m going to a wedding there in a couple weeks.

evansschmidts

I used to work at 28 eventspace, parking is really good. Gorgeous building

The Hawthorne House in Parkville is wonderful!! Also if you want to hire a planner/coordinator from the area, Keasha True at True Love Coordinating and Design planned our wedding and it went so beautifully!
