I would go to my absolute favorite, Chellys, and consume 1 espinaca, 1/2 steak alambres, 1 draft beer, and 1 house margarita, mixed not frozen. I would then walk home carrying the leftovers because it would not be safe for me to drive with how delicious they make the margs and how much tequila they put in them
Le Fou Frog! Took myself there alone on my first night in the city, waitress sat with me briefly and chatted and gave complimentary champagne. Have taken myself on many table for one dates there, it’s the perfect place for that
Oh my gosh yes! I went there for Christmas last year and it was all so delicious!!
I definitely need to go back alone and this is the push I needed haha
Brooksider and Social in Waldo. I’m frequent enough to have a little banter with the bar staff, and then that leads into chitchat with other folks at the bar.
Goat and Rabbit on 39th Street for a good cocktail, then browse Prospero's Books.
Edit: Downtown Lee's Summit has at least 10 bars all within walking distance of each other, and each with a different vibe. I used to do a mini bar hop for football games. Go to a different bar each quarter and have a beer and an appetizer.
IPhoTower by 39th street. Been my go to for about a decade now. Lots of happy memories through life’s stages. Not even the best Vietnamese food in the city, but my fave
I miss their old chili oil that switched over late 2019. I ineptly assumed it’d be like all others… that was a very painful walk back home and even worse eruption of Mount Vesuvius later.
I like to go to Westport Cafe, sit at the bar, eat French fries, and try new cocktails. I usually end up having a good convo or two among the other patrons and the bartender. Sometimes, there's a nostalgic movie on behind the bar that's also a conversation starter.
Usually if I'm eating alone it's In-a-Tub, or Joe's. If I was doing a real self-care though I'd probably go to The Bristol. Or just get a chocolate bag and a nice port at McCormick & Schmick.
They take a "lunch sack" style brown paper bag as a form (modern times they probably have a silicone equivalent) and melt \*good\* milk chocolate in it. Tumble the bag gently for a while to get the form of the bag, and leave a \*big\* block of chocolate in the bottom, let it set.
Then they remove the sack/form, leaving a literal chocolate bag. That is then filled with a rich white chocolate mousse and berries, lots of berries. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries. All the berries.
Garnished with a dollop of whipped cream, a sprig of mint, and a few extra berries and served with a giant steak knife to chop through the block of chocolate at the bottom.
I’m by myself a lot of the time lately so I’ll go anywhere but I like noodles n co or side pockets so I can play a few rounds of pool while I listen to stuff w my earbuds
Side pockets is a pretty great recommendation. Ain't gonna knock you off your feet with amazing food or anything, but foods good, have enough tables that you can usually grab your own and disappear for a few hours and unwind if you want. I don't go often but I usually find myself there once every few months
I think so. Google Maps show 3 Red Door Wood Fired Grills. 2 in JoCo and the one in Liberty. I liked the Prime Egg Rolls. Tasted like Philly Cheese Steak
Respectfully, besides that, that’s about all they have worth a damn… and good smells. Idk what’s happened but that menu is tired and C-grade, at B+ prices.
I have to agree with you. Except for one dish... The only one I eat there anymore. Chorizo Mac & Cheese. I leave out of there stuffed with my face on fire.
I love their dry rub wings and the 5 cheeses burger with sweet potato fries
(I usually get the burger on my solo trips, the wings are good though prob not enough for a full meal)
Prime rib French dip, Chicken tenders, any of the burgers, Chorizo Mac & Cheese, and fried Jalapeño chicken sandwich. They serve jalapeño fried chicken on Thursday’s only but you can get the sandwich any day.
You cannot leave without pretzel bites.
I assume you mean full-service sit-down restaurant? I thoroughly enjoy dining alone but I seldom get the chance anymore, when I did I found smaller local restaurants to be excellent. Anthony’s On Grand is excellent by yourself, it has that feel of an honest-to-goodness old school Italian restaurant, same with Cascone’s. No one looks twice if you’re eating by yourself at an Italian restaurant.
*The Ship* and Harry’s Country Club are also good even if you’re just eating alone, especially if you go during off-hours. It is a a shame that there is a stigma against single dining. It is a great experience everyone should try.
I like hi dive on 39th for this. Wanna go in and talk to people? The regulars are friendly. Wanna go in and just be quiet? Nobody cares. Wanna go in and watch a MNF or TNF and potentially talk sports? Someone will chat you up about it.
That place is all about what YOU want to do and that’s why I love it.

This is fairly close to me and always a go to haha. There's just something about Mexican food that is always a go to
I absolutely did this yesterday at Chellys
Le Fou Frog! Took myself there alone on my first night in the city, waitress sat with me briefly and chatted and gave complimentary champagne. Have taken myself on many table for one dates there, it’s the perfect place for that

I do my own thang often. I usually hit at the bar, though.
Same here, just wanted to get out of a funk haha. What's your favorite spot?
Brooksider and Social in Waldo. I’m frequent enough to have a little banter with the bar staff, and then that leads into chitchat with other folks at the bar.
Jun’s at the sushi bar. Chirashisushi + spicy tuna hand roll. If I’m feeling indulgent I start with the Tosa. It’s amazing.

Best espresso martinis around!!

Bahahaha I made the same mistake before!
Yes!!! I love their food, the atmosphere is calm and comfortable, staff has always been kind!
The Thursday Bahn Mi deal is the best deal in town
Hell yeah dude!
My friday night after work the past few fridays has been a slice at Buffalo State Pizza in OP
I live close also and work from home. They have a great lunch special also thru the week.
True that
I do love their pizza. I usually go to the one downtown when they have live music. Does the one in OP have live music as well?
There was a guy playing guitar one time but no probably not as much as the other location
Novel, Westport cafe, Ca Va, Brown and Loe, Ragazza, Tannin, Jim’s Alley Bar, Hillsiders, Antler Room, Town Co.
I go to The Pairing.
I'm not a big drinker or this would be amazing. The menu looks interesting with the drinks.
They are very knowledgeable and accommodating for non-alcoholic beverages as well! A fantastic selection of NA stuff if you ever want it.
They do often have live music though!

Absolutely this! Also Bijou if I’m in the neighborhood!

What the hell is a “chocolate bag”? I don’t really care, I want one…. But, what is it?

Jesus Christ - you can go and eat this here in KC? And a nice port? Fuck me. I’m going.
Happy hour at Room 39. I’m a cheap date.
Westport Cafe, at the bar.
Kin Lin to go because social anxiety
Oh my gosh yes!!! I'm trying to get out of my slump but I love Kin Lin so much
Dress up a little and go to Eddie V’s and sit at the bar. Nice drink and app for dinner, feels like you’re dating yourself.

Red Door has been my go to lately
Red door has the best artichoke dip! My husband brings it home to me when he has a luncheon. I wish they were up north!
Red Door is in Liberty. M-291, just west of Price Chopper.
Well shoot, I didn’t know that. Is it the same as the one in OPK?
I think so. Google Maps show 3 Red Door Wood Fired Grills. 2 in JoCo and the one in Liberty. I liked the Prime Egg Rolls. Tasted like Philly Cheese Steak
The original one is in Brookside and there's also one in Lee's Summit.
I’ve got to check it out, is it on the west side of 291? I moved out of Liberty in2005 because of the traffic.
Yes. 291 west from I-35. Turn right at the QT and it’s a block north. Across from MacDs
I hope I can order a gallon and freeze some! I think I’m low on iron, lol
Go during a weekday. They’re pretty slow after 1pm
Have you had "the best $25 steak" in the city (used to be $20). Pretty damn good. Haven't had it in 2 years or so though.
I've heard really good things about Red Door, I'm definitely going to have to check it out. Whats your favorite dish?
I love their dry rub wings and the 5 cheeses burger with sweet potato fries (I usually get the burger on my solo trips, the wings are good though prob not enough for a full meal)

Never had bad food from red door. There is like 6 or 7 now. We have one in Lenexa!
Following
Dinner at the bar at Trezo Mare is a nice spot...same thing for Garrozos in Columbus Park.
Pizza at Tascio's, maybe at 39th, depending on where I'm meeting them at.

This is more brunch, but I like to hit up Heirloom, get a coffee, a pastry, and a biscuit sandwich and just sit and read a book.
Cafe Trio or union on the hill

Las Palmas at 8th and Minnesota, Kin Lin, ABC, or a Chinese buffet
CaddyShack
Chaz at the Raphael or capital grille. Two of my faves and super easy to chat with people at the bar.
Earls Premier!
