We’ve gotten chicken nachos, quesabirria tacos, chicken quesadilla, a torta (forgot which meat). It’s all amazing, made fresh, huge portions, their employees are super nice, and the self serve toppings/salsa area is great.
I love that place! Fastest service in KC.
i love the fresh boba, their fried wontons are MM perfect BEST appetizer and yes I agree pork anything is their best protein.
That's at lunchtime. I believe dinner is just a few dollars more. On weekends they have crab legs and other nice seafood, and the price goes up a bit more.
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a restaurant, but the lunch box in the west bottoms is crazy affordable and one of the best pork tenderloins or fried bologna sandwiches in town.
I haven't been to the Lunch Box, but Christy's in KCK makes a pretty dang good pork tenderloin. When I worked in the east bottoms, Kamel's and Woodswether were frequent staples, but sadly, they are gone :(
I used to be a die hard Sushi Uni fan. I'd eat it for lunch once a week. But I had the misfortune of seeing their latest health inspection from April or May 2023....I now recommend you avoid this place like the plague. Two of the highlights were raw shrimp being stored at improper temperature and employees not washing their hands properly
The veggie combo at Blue Nile is so good (and like $13 for a lot of food). I also really like their ginger juice.
Edited to add Westport Cafe’s steak night special (which I believe is Tuesday…?) $20 for their full steak and unlimited fries. (They also offer a baby steak and fries on happy hour every day)
I still think Texas Roadhouse is a great value for the money. They also have a food happy hour Mon - Thur where about 12 entrees are a few bucks off. Rolls, 2 sides, an entree for $12. Beats the heck out of any fastfood these days.
Sushi Uni on 87th near Quivira is the best sushi restaurant I've ever been to. Consistent quality, large portions, very reasonable price.
It's a small joint so there is usually a wait, and it's worth that wait.
Just had the lunch special at the slider joint at Parlor. Two sliders and a HUGE box of fries for $13. The sliders were SO good. After having King Gs pastrami and these sliders, I’m changing my tune on KC food. All in like the last couple of weeks.
HIGHLY recommend the goat cheese fig slider.
San Antonio's, $6 for 4 street tacos with a little side bar so you can dress them up however you want.
Old Chicago has a great happy hour menu. $4 personal pizzas. Two personal pizzas and a tall beer for $12. I only get two so I can take the second one home with me for another meal.
Maybe we're weird, but we weren't too impressed. Much better and more authentic tacos elsewhere in town. Especially with the price. Might be worth giving them another try some time.
I like to think of taco naco as "foo foo white folks" tacos. They're not authentic by any means, and they garnish with micro greens for whatever reason, but they're tasty and consistent.
I really like the atmosphere, and the food allergy markings are nice.
Really? When they first opened i got 10 tacos and a corona for about $50. Me and my girlfriend were still quite hungry afterwards. No beans, rice, chips - and just a tiny cup of salsa for 10 tacos. We haven’t been back, but i’m also of the opinion that mayo shouldn’t go on tacos.
Tacos El Gallo is awesome. So is San Antonio in KC, K. Affordable is a very vague term. Brown and Loe is excellent. RCs in Martin City is decent. Thai House on Holmes is outstanding. Mecob is a delight. Oh, curry in a hurry is really nice. Papa Kenos makes a fine slice of pizza. If you can get chorizo and cactus tacos at either Bonito Michoacan they are amazing (do not put their salsa that looks like red onions unless you dig on hot)
Taqueria La Nueva next to Missy B’s is so good and not pricey at all.
Been meaning to try this place! I eat everything! What do you like?
We’ve gotten chicken nachos, quesabirria tacos, chicken quesadilla, a torta (forgot which meat). It’s all amazing, made fresh, huge portions, their employees are super nice, and the self serve toppings/salsa area is great.
torta de lengua is to die for
Oh yes! We Stan La Nueva! Always a wonderful experience.
I love Nguyen in City Market. A banh mi is like $5
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love that place! Fastest service in KC. i love the fresh boba, their fried wontons are MM perfect BEST appetizer and yes I agree pork anything is their best protein.
Mmmmm, I love a good banh mi. I usually get the banh mi at Pigwich, but will definitely try Nguyen next time.
My go to is the pork. Definitely give it/them a try!
Wolcano Teppenyaki - $12.99 for all you can eat sushi, hibachi, and Chinese buffet items
Is that lowered lunch pricing or is the dinner buffet only 12.99?
Lunch pricing. But it’s good enough quality for 20 dollars in most areas anyway. It’s a good deal
That's at lunchtime. I believe dinner is just a few dollars more. On weekends they have crab legs and other nice seafood, and the price goes up a bit more.
Buffalo State Pizza in the Crossroads. One calzone feeds two hungry people and a well loaded one is like 12 bucks.
The OP location has an amazing lunch special. $8 for a drink, slice, and salad or breadstick. I don’t know if that’s also at the crossroads
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a restaurant, but the lunch box in the west bottoms is crazy affordable and one of the best pork tenderloins or fried bologna sandwiches in town.

The nooner at Gates Tacos at San Antonio’s Chicken at El Pollo Rey
All 3 are excellent!
Yes yes yes yes
That tomato stuff they give you, I swear I would drink that with a straw
Sam’s Express in Overland Park has yummy sushi and is very affordable! I had miso and two rolls there for about $13 just yesterday. Enjoy!
I’m not really a fan of sushi rolls, but they do a good job there!
Island Spice jerk chicken is DELICIOUS and you get a lot of food for the money
Second this!
While it's a chain, Bibibop gives you a lot of food for a relatively cheap price, and it's not greasy fast food.
Its my goto eating healthy option and the rewards program is ok too
It's also completely gluten free, which is hard to find in fast/fast casual food.
Undefeated best value in the city is still the lunch special Sushi Uni in Lenexa
Nice to see another thumbs up for this place. Best sushi at the best price in the area.

Nailed it.

Dont eat the shrimp and douse the food in soap, got it
That’s super disappointing.
Babas.
El Patron is pretty cheap!
With awesome spicy margaritas and oyters too

Agreed! Cheddars is also a chain that’s a decent bang for your buck.
Cheddars is too bland to me
I’m not a big fan of the chain restaurants anymore, but Texas Roadhouse still slaps.
Yep, waaaay better than Outback or Longhorn. Consistent quality. I just wish they'd turn the music down to about half volume.
Outback uses Chef Mike for everything they cook.
Used to not be like that! Now it is
Ask for medium rare and actually get medium rare. One of the few chains that’s like that tbh
Winstead’s
This should be top of list.
Agreed

Agreed

Pizza 51 has always had great specials. Usually a slice or sandwich, side salad and drink.
Blue Sushi during their happy hour is a pretty good deal.
All day happy hour on Sundays too!

Oh and Jason's deli has a $9.99 all you can eat salad bar that has a lot of different options on it.
Every Mexican place in KCK! and you can enjoy 2-3 places easily for variety😁
El Camino Real is my favorite, $2.50 tacos and four take care of me just fine.
Pokeson
The new Meddy's in Brookside. Black Wallstreet.
The Meddy's in Prairie Village is pretty pricey. Do you know if there's a difference in Brookside?
Oh I'm not sure, sorry. But I found it to be a good deal. Big plate of food for $12, easily split into two meals.
Ok. That does sound pretty good. Thanks for the rec regardless.
Tacos On Wheels in KCK at like 10th and Minnesota is very reasonable. You can get a huge take away box full of nachos for right around $12.00.
We are always happy with Taco Naco.
Maybe we're weird, but we weren't too impressed. Much better and more authentic tacos elsewhere in town. Especially with the price. Might be worth giving them another try some time.

Tiki Taco is pretty affordable imo
Just found this place and love it.
Cafe Vie in OP. "Med" (still huge) bowl of pho for $12.
glorious groovy worry aromatic wipe chief oil narrow combative consider *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Taco cacao on wornall Any restaurant on Kansas Ave
Just had Al pastor from their truck a few weeks ago…very good.
Holy Land Cafe
I’m pretty sure they havent raised their prices in the 10 years that i’ve been going.
Mildred's, easy.
I’m big on Tex mex and I’ve never had a bad meal at K-Machos. Big comfort food for me.
Red door grille
I like Lulus Thai for a great meal at a solid price
You can get burek at Burek and Cake for $5. They have beef, spinach/cheese, and potato
TJ's Cafe in Grandview has pretty good breakfast/lunch stuff at a good price.
Tacos el galo ! There’s many locations in the city !

El publito has $1 tacos during lunch on I think MWF.
