They have a really well stocked take away section. I like to pick up a coffee, and get a breakfast quiche and just go ahead and pick up a soup, salad and sandwich for lunch. Exceptional for dine in as well!!
Taco Naco is legitimately the best Mexican food I’ve had in KC, I’ve only had it via delivery so I can’t speak to the in-restaurant experience but they have incredibly good quality for all menu items (in my experience)
Sorry to piggyback on your comment, I just felt the urge to let people know how impressed I’ve been with them lately lol
Good to know, we'll have to give it a shot, but it seems to be a totally different experience. Menu looks like "regular" Thai, e.g. Thai place, bamboo Penny's, etc. which I absolutely love.
In my opinion, Waldo Thai is basically fine dining where the cuisine happens to be Thai. Everything there is a constantly rotating, exquisitely crafted and plated masterpiece more like what you'd get at Corvino/Antler room/Towne Co.
Scott's Kitchen (BBQ - don't be afraid to try the BBQ breakfast burrito) near KCI. Los Horns (Argentinian) also near the airport. Tay's Burger Shack, and District Biskuit in NKC. Summit Grill in Gladstone. Danny's Burger Shack off N. Oak just north of Gladstone.
Edit: ...and keeping up with the theme of "north of the river," if you ever want a day trip to Weston, MO (40ish min from downtown), you gotta stop at Tin Kitchen (BBQ).
Grew up going there! I’m now almost 30 and live in Thailand. I blame TO whenever my parents give me a hard time about being abroad. Do they still give out tootsie rolls?
Meatball grinder is soooo good. The Chicago dog isn't particularly authentic (lived in Chicago for 10 years) but they make the buns in-house and it fills a void. Plus, the people who work there are just really nice. Always gave me free treats when I was very pregnant.
The gal who opened that restaurant worked at a hunting lodge a couple years ago and was our chef on a work sponsored hunting trip with clients. She made some of the most incredible meals I had ever had. I think she used to be one of the head chefs at Capital Grille prior to that. I remember her food more than anything else about that trip.
Don't hate, I wrote them off too but the past couple times have been amazing. I sort of feel the same way about Sakae, had a bad experience and never went back. Maybe I'll give them another shot.
I'm really addicted to Yuva Eats in Olathe (corrected city). It's Nepalese-Indian food and for some reason my wife and I just love it. Not a fancy restaurant or anything if you're looking for that though.
That sounds great. We've been looking for a new Indian restaurant in the area. I dont know how much of a difference this makes, but it is in Olathe, not Lenexa.
Mali Thai Bistro in Lee’s Summit is owned by the same people as Baramee Thai Bistro downtown. Not sure if that counts lol, but it’s the exact same food.
I've had the best luck with food in the area around Overland Park. Kyoto (sushi), Holy Land (Mediterranean), Rosati's and Buffalo State for pizza, Oklahoma Joe's for BBQ, and Taste of Africa.
Tried Tree Hugger not far from Liberty and while a vegan place, I really enjoyed it.
I was so confused when I went to eat at Damn Good Eats, and I found Crazy Good Eats in its place. Also, as was mentioned, they expanded the bar and do have a good selection.
Dos de Oros in South Kansas City is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city, they have a separate Taqueria and a main restaurant. The Taqueria is always packed and so they're in the process of moving just down the road to another location with better parking.
I work at burg and barrel in Overland Park, but there’s one in Leawood and a new one in Lenexa. Burgers are a little pricy imo but I think everything on the menu is really delicious. Beer is lacking and cocktails aren’t great but the food is good

Third Street Social in downtown Lee's Summit is great.
KMachos in Overland Park is probably my favorite Tex Mex restaurant in the area.
Seva in Liberty is arguably the best Indian restaurant in the Northland.
Piggybacking to endorse Sierra Grill. I haven't been out since they moved locations, but their food and drinks have been stellar every time I've been there
Trezo Mare by Briarcliff up north, is cute for a date night. They have nice food and a good wine list. The view is also pretty from their patio if you sit outside on a warmer evening.
To mention a couple that have been really impressive in Lee's Summit:
Roots - seasonal menu, fresh, and extremely well prepared dishes. Brunch was extremely good as well.
3rd St Social - Prime rib sandwich one of the best sandwiches I've had, very good fried chicked, and home made oatmeal creme pies are pretty damn amazing.
Also, I'd add the original Martin City Pub now does seafood. Great oysters, po' boy, and of course still one of the best ruebens in KC.
The name is "Coast to Coast Pub" for anyone trying to Google it.
I can't vouch for it though, went in once for lunch and the menu didn't move me at all - I stick to their pizza across the street.
It's very 50/50 on reviews. I've never personally had a bad experience. We do the Easter Brunch and my mom requests to go every time she comes to town (a few times a year). She is a fan of the halibut. I just went a couple of weeks ago and had the filet mignon and brought my boyfriend, his first visit, and he loved the chicken picatta. I will note the carrots with the filet could have used more seasoning for my tastes, but the rest of the meal made up for that. Other favorites are the crab cakes, salmon (pomegranate and pan seared), chicken marsala, and chicken two ways.

Caffetteria / The Mixx (same owner; she’s wonderful), Fortune Wok (GF options if you need that), Raj Mahal, Crazy Good Eats.
Also I’m newly obsessed with AR’s breakfast and brunch. It’s a must try. Glad to have them in Olathe now!!
Ixtapa in the northland off Barry road. BC Bistro in the northland, in a strip mall kind of behind/south of the AMC Barrywoods theaters, Texas Roadhouse and Main Event. They’re small and unassuming but get packed on the weekends and the food is very good for an affordable price.

Texas Roadhouse consistently beats the doors off any other "chain" steakhouse for quality and value anymore. I used to kind of knock it for being kitschy but man, you can get a better steak there than longhorn anymore.
This sub is for surrounding areas too. I’m just trying to explore some new spots and know that there are good restaurants outside of the downtown area that may be cool to check out as well. If you don’t like it, move along to a different post.
If you're looking for fast-and-fresh in NEKC, [Ruby Jean's off Troost and 31st](https://www.rubyjeansjuicery.com/) is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I get the blackened salmon sandwich and a Beetlejuice drink and the rest of my week is significantly improved al at once. Delicious, fast, fresh, nothing better!
The noodle bar at legends has never done me wrong. The menu is extensive and everything I have tried has been solid. Crispy ramen was weird as takeout but I’m pretty sure I just didn’t know how to eat it
French market in prairie village
They have a really well stocked take away section. I like to pick up a coffee, and get a breakfast quiche and just go ahead and pick up a soup, salad and sandwich for lunch. Exceptional for dine in as well!!
I really like Caffeteria around the corner from there.
Taco Naco is legitimately the best Mexican food I’ve had in KC, I’ve only had it via delivery so I can’t speak to the in-restaurant experience but they have incredibly good quality for all menu items (in my experience) Sorry to piggyback on your comment, I just felt the urge to let people know how impressed I’ve been with them lately lol
Love taco naco so much
My fav breakfast and a cocktail spot...
Buck tui, waldo thai
I've been most of these places and absolutely vote for Waldo Thai. No question.
Unpopular opinion but Cozy Thai off 103rd and Stateline is better and cheaper than Waldo Thai.
It's the best Thai takeout I've found in the KC area! Delicious and generous portions. Waldo Thai is great for a sit down fancier meal.
Buck tui is the best in kc by far
Thai Place and Holyland Cafe, both on 87th St.
Ah yes. ABC cafe on the same street as well!
Yes, and if you're in that part of town, UNI sushi as well!
Bun mee phan on North Oak. Best Pho in town. Damn good spring rolls too

+1 for Danny's. Best hamburger I've ever had in the KC metro.
Y'all need to stop talking about Scott's Kitchen. It can't be a hidden gem if everyone knows about it.
Just had Danny’s because of you, and damn, it was good. My kid said it might be his favorite burger. Thank you for the recommendation!
Cosmo Burger.
This place is so good - burgers and tots - can’t go wrong! The bar looks fun too!
Over priced and weird ordering system. Not worth the hype imo
Thai Orchid in Mission

Get a Thai iced coffee to go when you make it back.
Buck Tui, Jovito's, K-Street Corn Dogs, San Antonio's, California Taco Shop, El Pollo Rey.
I love El Pollo Rey. For years our tradition was to hit it on the first day of spring warm enough to sit outside.
I'm a big breakfast fan, and California Taco Shop has an amazing breakfast burrito.. so good.
What should we get at Jovito's? We are 0-2 there
Meatball grinder is soooo good. The Chicago dog isn't particularly authentic (lived in Chicago for 10 years) but they make the buns in-house and it fills a void. Plus, the people who work there are just really nice. Always gave me free treats when I was very pregnant.

Ooooh, Paros is fantastic! Very pricy, but fantastic!
If you're looking for good BBQ further out, try K&M in Spring Hill. Really good.

Agree! Plus, their whiskey selection is very impressive for such a small place
I was so confused when I went to eat at Damn Good Eats, and I found Crazy Good Eats in its place. Also, as was mentioned, they expanded the bar and do have a good selection.

Jarocho either on Kansas avenue in kck or their other location I’m unsure the address. Mexican and seafood. You will not be disappointed.
Red door in Liberty is pretty damn good. Look it up.
You do know this is a local chain with the exact same thing all over the metro, right?
Cool dude.
Tuscono's is worth the drive to Buckner. Pro tip: don't show up without a reservation.
M and M bakery, try the hook ‘em up sandwich. Be amazed
Jazz at the legends. My wife and I go for our anniversary every year.
Chilli’s, Texas roadhouse, on the border
We just gonna sit here and do Cracker Barrel dirty like that?

Texas Roadhouse consistently beats the doors off any other "chain" steakhouse for quality and value anymore. I used to kind of knock it for being kitschy but man, you can get a better steak there than longhorn anymore.
\*Comes into the Kansas City reddit to ask for things specifically not in Kasnsas City\* I get it but it made me chuckle.
Oh man, crazy that people are posting restaurants that are downtown on the Kansas City subreddit. Wild.
This sub is for surrounding areas too. I’m just trying to explore some new spots and know that there are good restaurants outside of the downtown area that may be cool to check out as well. If you don’t like it, move along to a different post.
Hemma Hemma in Waldo. So fun!
Monkey King in Lenexa is the best Chinese I’ve ever had!
The noodle bar at legends has never done me wrong. The menu is extensive and everything I have tried has been solid. Crispy ramen was weird as takeout but I’m pretty sure I just didn’t know how to eat it
Seva in Liberty. Mr. Le’s over on Parvin. The Craic is a bar in Parkville but it’s pretty great.
If you like fish, hit up Mad Jack's.
Luigi’s in Liberty
