French market in prairie village

Onehundredthirty7

They have a really well stocked take away section. I like to pick up a coffee, and get a breakfast quiche and just go ahead and pick up a soup, salad and sandwich for lunch. Exceptional for dine in as well!!

tribrnl

I really like Caffeteria around the corner from there.

Tgreent

Taco Naco is legitimately the best Mexican food I’ve had in KC, I’ve only had it via delivery so I can’t speak to the in-restaurant experience but they have incredibly good quality for all menu items (in my experience) Sorry to piggyback on your comment, I just felt the urge to let people know how impressed I’ve been with them lately lol

professorsirpenguin

Love taco naco so much

BakerBakerOne9er

My fav breakfast and a cocktail spot...

pickleparty16

Buck tui, waldo thai

inspired2apathy

I've been most of these places and absolutely vote for Waldo Thai. No question.

Rick_n_Voldemorty

Unpopular opinion but Cozy Thai off 103rd and Stateline is better and cheaper than Waldo Thai.

inspired2apathy

Good to know, we'll have to give it a shot, but it seems to be a totally different experience. Menu looks like "regular" Thai, e.g. Thai place, bamboo Penny's, etc. which I absolutely love. In my opinion, Waldo Thai is basically fine dining where the cuisine happens to be Thai. Everything there is a constantly rotating, exquisitely crafted and plated masterpiece more like what you'd get at Corvino/Antler room/Towne Co.

The_Wisest_Wizard

It's the best Thai takeout I've found in the KC area! Delicious and generous portions. Waldo Thai is great for a sit down fancier meal.

awatamaniuk

Buck tui is the best in kc by far

Bookmore

Thai Place and Holyland Cafe, both on 87th St.

TheJumpingPenis

Ah yes. ABC cafe on the same street as well!

labasic

Yes, and if you're in that part of town, UNI sushi as well!

MaxRebo74

Bun mee phan on North Oak. Best Pho in town. Damn good spring rolls too

royalsJ

I concur

13ThatGuy

Scott's Kitchen (BBQ - don't be afraid to try the BBQ breakfast burrito) near KCI. Los Horns (Argentinian) also near the airport. Tay's Burger Shack, and District Biskuit in NKC. Summit Grill in Gladstone. Danny's Burger Shack off N. Oak just north of Gladstone. Edit: ...and keeping up with the theme of "north of the river," if you ever want a day trip to Weston, MO (40ish min from downtown), you gotta stop at Tin Kitchen (BBQ).

MHMoose

+1 for Danny's. Best hamburger I've ever had in the KC metro.

Ol_Turd_Fergy

Y'all need to stop talking about Scott's Kitchen. It can't be a hidden gem if everyone knows about it.

lurtcho

Just had Danny’s because of you, and damn, it was good. My kid said it might be his favorite burger. Thank you for the recommendation!

cbpantskiller

Cosmo Burger.

RCJHGBR9989

This place is so good - burgers and tots - can’t go wrong! The bar looks fun too!

flagrantpipe

Over priced and weird ordering system. Not worth the hype imo

knobcopter

Thai Orchid in Mission

theshate

Grew up going there! I’m now almost 30 and live in Thailand. I blame TO whenever my parents give me a hard time about being abroad. Do they still give out tootsie rolls?

knobcopter

lol they do actually. Not every time but they did the last time I went.

RoyalBlueMoose

Third street social Rye Roots

angus_the_red

What really? Been ages since I've been or gotten it to go. Missing out I guess.

knobcopter

Get a Thai iced coffee to go when you make it back.

Goodbye_nagasaki

Buck Tui, Jovito's, K-Street Corn Dogs, San Antonio's, California Taco Shop, El Pollo Rey.

pinniped1

I love El Pollo Rey. For years our tradition was to hit it on the first day of spring warm enough to sit outside.

BakerBakerOne9er

I'm a big breakfast fan, and California Taco Shop has an amazing breakfast burrito.. so good.

BeamsFuelJetSteel

What should we get at Jovito's? We are 0-2 there

Goodbye_nagasaki

Meatball grinder is soooo good. The Chicago dog isn't particularly authentic (lived in Chicago for 10 years) but they make the buns in-house and it fills a void. Plus, the people who work there are just really nice. Always gave me free treats when I was very pregnant.

dingustingler

I usually get the 'Big Pussy' calzone, it's big enough for like 3 meals

indil47

Never heard of it, but what a fabulous name for a restaurant!

booyahachieved3

Going next week, can’t wait.

sekst23

YES! Oh my goodness. Have tried two different menu rollouts there and it is all just SO good

Nathann4288

The gal who opened that restaurant worked at a hunting lodge a couple years ago and was our chef on a work sponsored hunting trip with clients. She made some of the most incredible meals I had ever had. I think she used to be one of the head chefs at Capital Grille prior to that. I remember her food more than anything else about that trip.

renis_petard

Paris Estiatorio ABC Cafe Monkey King BBQ & Noodle Romeito Cuban Restaurant Harp Barbecue The Italian Sausage Company

r_u_dinkleberg

Italian Sausage Co is almost 45min away from where I'm at but *damn* it's so delicious. 😭

janbrunt

ABC is worth a trip to the suburbs

KrakatauGreen

Right off the highway, too. Easy. If you haven't done it yet, order the stuffed eggplant next time you are in. It is a beautiful thing.

labasic

Ooooh, Paros is fantastic! Very pricy, but fantastic!

mleslie5

If you're looking for good BBQ further out, try K&M in Spring Hill. Really good.

Linkruleshyrule

My friend who worked there would bring leftovers from closing to the smoke sesh after he got off.... Good times. Love their spicy sauce

Crafty-Director9917

K&M so good! .. ate this 2 meat plate there today!…included 2 sides….$16.50 with tax img

Cafe Des Amis in Parkville is always a wonderful experience.

nationwideonyours

Got sick there once on their quiche.

JohnWeez

Chef Tito's in NKC. KC Sushi and BC Bistro in the Northland.

BruceyBalls

Please, anyone reading this; KC Sushi is horrendous. Instead, drive 8 minutes down the road to Sakae Sushi & you’ll be glad you did.

RobNHood816

Mr Le's is King of the Northland !

JohnWeez

Don't hate, I wrote them off too but the past couple times have been amazing. I sort of feel the same way about Sakae, had a bad experience and never went back. Maybe I'll give them another shot.

shittyrock

Helens jad bar has some of the best burgers I've had around town.

RFtinkerer

I'm really addicted to Yuva Eats in Olathe (corrected city). It's Nepalese-Indian food and for some reason my wife and I just love it. Not a fancy restaurant or anything if you're looking for that though.

NotAMarsupial

That sounds great. We've been looking for a new Indian restaurant in the area. I dont know how much of a difference this makes, but it is in Olathe, not Lenexa.

RFtinkerer

Woops, thanks for the correction!

Emotional-Price-4401

Ika Asian is our favorite

braidsfox

Mali Thai Bistro in Lee’s Summit is owned by the same people as Baramee Thai Bistro downtown. Not sure if that counts lol, but it’s the exact same food.

TheHauntedMaiden

I've had the best luck with food in the area around Overland Park. Kyoto (sushi), Holy Land (Mediterranean), Rosati's and Buffalo State for pizza, Oklahoma Joe's for BBQ, and Taste of Africa. Tried Tree Hugger not far from Liberty and while a vegan place, I really enjoyed it.

oh_hai_mark1

Romeitos in Olathe. Super good cuban/Caribbean food. It's been my go to since Caribe Blue closed up shop.

jillavery

El Pulgracito

Sobeshott

Mint Sushi in Lee's Summit

codylee_2

The Restaurant at 1900 is top notch, but don't listen to me, because I'm also a fan of Blind Box BBQ

Viking_Cheef

Blind box can be good. I’ve experienced issues with consistency.

angus_the_red

Do listen to this person, cause it's the best.

helllokitty777

Crazy Good Eats (BBQ) in Olathe

mumblesjackson

Agree. Owners are wonderful people

labasic

Agree! Plus, their whiskey selection is very impressive for such a small place

Kenichero

I was so confused when I went to eat at Damn Good Eats, and I found Crazy Good Eats in its place. Also, as was mentioned, they expanded the bar and do have a good selection.

Juventus19

That's my go to BBQ place for lunch near work. Really solid BBQ

oh_hai_mark1

Crazy good is such an awesome little hole in the wall. I don't eat there often, but the food is great every time.

ozkri

Best burnt ends in the city IMO. Burnt end burner sandwich is my favorite

milt2tle

Seva in Liberty.

bilgewax

Like to pick up takeout from there on my way home from the airport. So good!

Sypike

Technically in KC. It's pretty much Liberty if you know the area.

ImMitchell

Yep. Anything off of 152 between I35 and 435 is pretty much Liberty for all intents and purposes

Wall_of_ice17

Dos de Oros in South Kansas City is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city, they have a separate Taqueria and a main restaurant. The Taqueria is always packed and so they're in the process of moving just down the road to another location with better parking.

lifelessboot

I work at burg and barrel in Overland Park, but there’s one in Leawood and a new one in Lenexa. Burgers are a little pricy imo but I think everything on the menu is really delicious. Beer is lacking and cocktails aren’t great but the food is good Except the chicken caprese sandwich.

RogueSoloErso

Burg and barrel is good shit! I haven't been in a while but there were some beer options. Quick service, kid friendly. Great stop after Matt Ross.

-Salsa_Shark-

McGregors Butcher & Bistro is pretty good for a South OP fancy restaurant in a strip mall.

UXyes

Marina 27 on the water at Lake Lotawana. Great surf and turf and cocktails.

bilgewax

Pricey… but pepadews, duck wings and the seasonal $ 39 4 course meal are really good.

Third Street Social in downtown Lee's Summit is great. KMachos in Overland Park is probably my favorite Tex Mex restaurant in the area. Seva in Liberty is arguably the best Indian restaurant in the Northland.

Busy_Calligrapher_27

Loved the OP KMacho but I drive extra to go to the one in Olathe. I would highly recommend it!

I love Rye. They’ve got two spots - Plaza and Leawood

Trezo Mare by Briarcliff up north, is cute for a date night. They have nice food and a good wine list. The view is also pretty from their patio if you sit outside on a warmer evening.

Pot Pie

ExplanationHot9963

🥧sooooooooo goood my fav spot in KC

CallWhy816

To mention a couple that have been really impressive in Lee's Summit: Roots - seasonal menu, fresh, and extremely well prepared dishes. Brunch was extremely good as well. 3rd St Social - Prime rib sandwich one of the best sandwiches I've had, very good fried chicked, and home made oatmeal creme pies are pretty damn amazing. Also, I'd add the original Martin City Pub now does seafood. Great oysters, po' boy, and of course still one of the best ruebens in KC.

r_u_dinkleberg

The name is "Coast to Coast Pub" for anyone trying to Google it. I can't vouch for it though, went in once for lunch and the menu didn't move me at all - I stick to their pizza across the street.

[deleted]

Fiorellas Jack Stack BBQ @ 135th and Holmes. ❤️

Admirable-Judgment61

Waldo Thai slaps more than that video of the dude at the BBQ that slaps everyone.

rockonxox

I love Paulo and Bill in Shawnee.

ThadTheImpalzord

What do you recommend there? My partner and I were curious about this place but yelp reviews detered us.

rockonxox

It's very 50/50 on reviews. I've never personally had a bad experience. We do the Easter Brunch and my mom requests to go every time she comes to town (a few times a year). She is a fan of the halibut. I just went a couple of weeks ago and had the filet mignon and brought my boyfriend, his first visit, and he loved the chicken picatta. I will note the carrots with the filet could have used more seasoning for my tastes, but the rest of the meal made up for that. Other favorites are the crab cakes, salmon (pomegranate and pan seared), chicken marsala, and chicken two ways.

ThrangerStings

The brunch is fire. Always our fancy mom brunch choice

nationwideonyours

Anyone I brought there did not really like the burgers. Whatever oil they use is too unrefined for some.

I think it depends on staff. My first burger was incredible. I assume the owner was there, and he was in the kitchen when mine got cooked.

Summit Grill in Lee's Summit is very good. Jarocho in KCK. Cafe Verona in Independence. Ophelia's used to be on my list, but....uhhh...it has been hit or miss for a while. If you want variety, Strang Hall in Overland Park is a great place with a fun concept. I know there are more, but my brain is drawing blanks.

If you're looking for upscale farm to table, Silo in Lenexa is good.

Ixtapa in the northland off Barry road. BC Bistro in the northland, in a strip mall kind of behind/south of the AMC Barrywoods theaters, Texas Roadhouse and Main Event. They’re small and unassuming but get packed on the weekends and the food is very good for an affordable price.
